The main thing about if I were to go live over there is that whole wrong side of the road driving thing. Otherwise, I am sure I would adapt a bit, and i happen to be a bit of a minah bird when it comes to picking up local speech patterns after a while.

at shaso... isn´t that what everybody is capable of? i always assumed that much... it is the same here in germany too.. so many dialects been thrown at you in berlin...when you come into the specific area where said dialect is cultivated you adopt pretty fast to it in order to belong to the crowd...it is a society thing...blend in or get shut out...

at jake...thrusters...hmm...we will see if that is needed...but that now it is pointed out it will somehow slightly change the game...
and i would love to see a real pic of that gun... sounds like a friendly tool to have^^

at LDD...hmm...will have a look at their range again...last time i checked it was way backa year ago... so i need a refreshing look there... as for keeping up with all those updates...yeah it really turns out to look a bit like wading through work^^

lol
Over paid
Over sexed
And over here

and everywhere...
corrected that for you a bit^^

at RW... armageddon is upon ye wether you want it or not...it is just a matter of when not if^^

at jeroen...yep...tho i know the definitions from all those bright lads at wiki...i think the theme steampunk is something that works even better if you make up your own definition as you go along and develop thus a new kind of the overall theme...thus diversification happens...and that is always what makes a thing live longer!

at 2500kgm3 :

that piece as you see it now is the cocküpit sort of...without any bitz for the engine or anything lese really...the windowsection will follow shortly...these will be angled windowpanes that form a domelike section right in fron of the current piece ...thus making the piece even more diamond looking... the wooden boards are meant to be atm in between the metal grids one piece each...held together by the grid and of course the cement of steampunk...rivets^^
any further details will happen one at a time...of course you are right... a hatch is deeply needed...i speculate atm wether it will be a top one or a side one... so much needs to be figured out for that... could even be a underslung one and access via it by a ropeladder...or steps on the legs...
the size i aim for is a bit more massed than a sentinel...mainly due to the need for engines and such detaiuls to cover the steampunk aproach... i will shortly also make a scalle shot to show how big the current buil is and how to speculate about height issues... i really would like to hear all your thoughts about length of legs and such things... if someone has any clever ideas as to how to create a part for attaching the legs i am all open ears...that is currently an issue i am still trying to figure out...

more updates in the CET night time...

If the walker will be used like a Sentinel, then I would imagine the thing should sit about the same height and the legs be the same length as a sentinel no?

Ah Vik, I have known many who do not adapt like that, some even refuse to, those soon find that they do not blend ion, nor do they gain acceptanc3e with such stubborness to stay as they are.

@ Vic - These aren't pictures of my gun (I really should take some pictures, at least for insurance purposes), just some I found online. Made by Sauer and Son, model 300. Pretty sweet, my favorite gun that I own by far.

Mine does not have the external hammers, but if I made a 28mm scale version of it, it would have the hammers, I like them.

at dave:

job day was over qicker than i thought, tho nothing to be feared out of that... i think i showed good work and good helpful spirit... tomorrow as oposed to the last days i will assist the other nursery nurses in the after school time...mostyl games and hobbywork...our friend chibi used to hold a gaming club under similar conditions in a libary...with youngsters...

at jake... now if that would be your gun, i´d say...nice one... for what reason is the third barrel? do you hunt different game with it? for when a buckshot doesn´t work?...interresting weaponmaking! thanks for helping out with a pic!

at hazzer... sorry tiefighter cockpit is not done yet... went to town with the iron "cage" around it but the next step will be the windowpanes of said cockpit to make... this will be a puzzler as the angled look to figure out the parts to cut wont be easy for me...

at shaso... well here in germany you get many pubs... irish ones mostly... during my university times i visited them more often...funny times^^ sometimes with liuve music even...those were the best!

here are some pics of my recent work...

the first pics show my feeble attempts to make my own cogwheels...used a feltpen hat for the bigger set of cogs... with these not enoght teeth i think... the rest is either filed or holepunched attempts to make cogs out of 5mm discs... still searching for a good methode...

then the promised and updated scaleshot of the cockpit...now with all bigger parts of the steel cage attached... tank and bearer are for the needed scale refferences...

Looks good, and thinking about the limbs, I think altered sentinel legs might work- lots of manouvreability (sp?) and comes with a nice ball socket.
might be too small, but maybe a bit of thickening with plasticard might do the trick.
thinking GW-wise, I think I'd go that way. Dunno about other companies though.

The cogs look good to me like the cutting felt tip pens up for cogs (endless supply working in a school Glad the job is going well must be nice having a job you enjoy or at least don't mind.

I would scratch build the legs completely it will be more fun plus you will achieve a better and unique look, the early progress is looking good although he is right you do need a rivet there.

You could also call a pub the boozer just for reference……

Starting to shape up Vik! as for pubs, well, I do recall the way German pubs were back when I was in Neu Ulm. Also got to go to Munchen as well. Have never seen salted radish stateside except for one German style Pub back on Long Island.

salted radish...now that is something not for the faint of heart^^ or tongue^^

to make it clear this weak is just for trial to see if i could start an apprenticeship in that job... here you always have to have certificates to actually get a job and keep it... but honestly i prefer talent above papers any day... if you are able to do a job...do it...but here it is always paper...you can´t do gak without paper...well that is actually the one thing i also am quite glad for enough paper^^

at RW...thanks for the comment about the bigger cogs... that will make the construction thus way easier with that problem solved...

at LDD...you are well ahead of the game already^^ i have just made a mockup for you all to comment on...i have in my hands some thirty or something chopsticks from small ice on a stick packages... courtesy of my wife...she works in a kindergarden...and thus sometoimes gets stuff like that in heaps...and she tends to think what might interests me hobbywise^^ so here i made a very crude and barren leg...never mind the rubber bands...the leg will have a feet/toe section later on and the shinbone and the thigh section...pistons on each section for convincing movemnt aperature of course..

so please tell me what you think...

Early signs good and I am glad you are not taking the easy way out on this, plus I was thinking most steam-punk walkers seem quite long legged so a hight difference to the IG walker would look better (it's a bit stumpy the IG walker).

Seems you have a plan for this as well……… have you got a shot of the legs next to the cockpit with a mini for scale and size purpose it will help to give an idea on the height ratio.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I don't know if you looked but these might help or not and there are different weight bags as well

no easy anyhow^^

the cogs from hasslefree look good but i think i have to come up with something plastic as i know don´t like to use superglue in the mix in between...i think i have to get one cog right and then make pressmoulds...

Because he doesnt have the stuff for casting, same here, but it isn't for lack of want, it's more of an affordability/scared issue.

I'm not sure what you have in mind for actuators and mechanical bits Vik, it would help us to provide suggestions if we had a sketch or something to go on. What is in that head of yours?

Assuming you want the legs to be motivated by hydraulics and such (not mysteriously enclosed in the leg like the AT-ST) to maintain the steampunk look, I would suggest that you extend the joints a bit to allow places to connect your actuators and hydraulics or what-not.

My sketch would not actually work, I didnt put much thought into it mechanically, but you get the idea- you really need to have a plan on how the thing moves before you can commit to any glue methinks.

As for gears, this guy makes paper steampunk walkers http://phillipvaldez.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
It looks as if he prints them, then cuts out the printed areas- you could do the same thing, except you would need to make your template from paper, then trace the template onto the plasticard for the big gears

And you know I can't condone the blasphemy of using Lego parts, but I would suggest you "explore the functionality of" this technic part
