Why do people prefer the razorfail over the hydra guanlets or the shardnet and implar. I like hydra gaunlets because you can get more attacks than the idea of reroll hits and wounds with one wyche. So my question is y do people prefer the razorfail?

Probably because they are actually called Razor Flails

In all seriuosness, no drugs taken into account, the Flails are the best statistically, their big downside is they don't stack with the re-roll to wound drugs.

Sharnet and Impaler are very popular as they augment one of the primary rolls people put Wyches in, tar pitting.

As above, statistically slightly better than Hydra gauntlets offensively, shardnet and impaler are good, but best used supporting an IC. In a planned assault against other troops, the defensive qualities are somewhat wasted as the Wyches are likely to strike first, and against anything shy of MEQs, aren't going to be receiving a whole lot of attacks back if things go ok.

I was told by a de player its because theyre unreliable and only str 3. They liked the net since they could count on them.

Pretty much what he said.

Reason I prefer hydras, however, is I've had some great luck with them and I use the Duke... so I have a much higher chance of getting reroll to wound, which IMO is one of the BEST drugs (especially facing MEQ's) along with +1 str

Also, you can't really compare gauntlets and razorflails to the shardnets. That's like comparing a sword to a shield - they have very different roles and of course if the goal is defense the flail will win out every time.

Gauntlets vs. Flails has been covered pretty well already.

Please see a thread I made HERE covering this topic. In short, Razorflails win out in most cases over the hydra gauntlets.

As Thor stated, shardnets are an entirely different upgrade direction.

I've moved away from using the wych weapons, however. They are simply not worth the cost of the upgrade in most cases - although on Bloodbrides I do still use some.

Well, with Bloodbrides you're paying for the right to have the triple weapons - so it's kind of the point of them.

I'll agree, I usually don't use Wych weapons, but then I'm usually not using my Wyches as a max size hammer unit either.
