An almost 100,000 point Apocalypse battle took place at At Ease Games, a new game store in Poway, CA, started by Ron Kent, a member of the San Diego Apocalypse group run by John Macomber.
John ran the game and it was Orks, Tau and Dark Eldar on one side against Imperial and Eldar on the other. Here is how it broke down.
ORKS / DARK ELDAR / TAU 47,500 points
IMPERIAL / ELDAR 48,600 points
The Ork team had almost twice as many structure points, but less "D" weapons.

To be completely honest this seems kinda......silly. And a little pointless. I've never understood the attraction of apocalypse because with that many models on the table it's impossible to do anything but move forward and hit your opponent head-on. Your guys in the back can't move forward until the guys in the front make a hole big enough, or enough of them die to make room. The pictures are really cool, and I see a lot of fantastic models, but it's just too much and a lot of them look haphazardly placed. I would never, EVER want to take part in a game like that. Sounds like you all had fun though and I guess that's what matters.

i love big games...doesn't matter how it turns out, its just fun to have that much BS on the table, and leads to a lot of tank shock.

For the Emperor, our Primark, Death to the UnClean
Grey Knights, making armies run off the board since the new Codex
"Enemies of the Imperium, hear me. You have come here to die. The Immortal Emperor is with us and we are invincible. His soldiers will strike you down. His war machines will crush you under their treads. His mighty guns will bring the very sky crashing down upon you. You cannot win. The Emperor has given us his greatest weapon to wield. So make yourselves ready. We are the First Kronus Regiment, and today is our Victory Day."

I was really disappointed when I got to the third picture on your blog and... well, that was it. It was really close as you said, but I'd rather see how close it was to a turn by turn report than just hear about it after the fact. Cool to see that much painted stuff on the table though!

I never understood the point of playing huge 50,000 point games with more than just 2 players per side.
Trust me, 10,000 vs 10,000 pts 1v1 is AMAZING FUN.
50,000 vs 50,000, with 20 people... not so much fun at all.

I guess what matters is what each person likes. Doesn't really matter if YOU don't like it as long as the people playing do.
But I agree, 10,000 vs. 10,000 is fun too.

It amazes me that people who have never played Apocalypse bash it. Seems that the general view of people who come and play with us (we just did 50,000 points this weekend) is they had a blast! So much stuff on the table, so much death and destruction.
And anyone who says there is no strategy is nuts. I would say, with 6 objectives and 25,000 points of enemy to deal with, there is more strategy than a regular 40k game. There are so many variables. How do you kill Super Heavies and Titans? How do you deal with Flyers, how to you capture and keep objectives through a 4 turn game? Etc. etc.
A lot of 40K players get lost and overwhelmed there is so much strategy. And most forget about the big picture and just kill stuff and forget about the objectives.
It is very strategic and a LOT of fun.
