Which do you prefer and why? Which is more competitive? Sample lists for each at 1850 and 2000?

Discuss.

Pedro in a pod list. He makes sternguard scoring meaning you can have up to nine scoring units. Maybe run Vulkan as well, but upwards of this, standard pod list ideas.

You can not have scoring Sternguards and TL Melta flamers at once tho. You have to chose one or the other.

As for the question, I prefer Pedro but dont run 3 sternguard squads with him, you must have room for an assault marine squad as well.+1 A on TH&SS termies is quite massive.

I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.

I dig Pedro/Sternguard in drop pods. It's the preferred army of my most frequent opponent, and it's a tough fight no matter which army I use.

20 Sternguard and 2 or 3 drop pods can cost around 700 points. With Pedro in there, that's almost 900, but it's worth every point. Between combi-weapons, special ammo, 2 statline attacks + whatever, and the fact that they can claim objectives, the orbital bombardment is just icing.

With 7 drop pods, you can alpha strike with impunity. Inexpensive support units like Vindicators and Thunderfire Cannons can handle a lot of threats that an elite army usually has to worry about; and you always have the option of throwing in stuff like honor guard or a vanguard squad to run around with him if you use up all your elite slots on sternguard.

The big problem, and one of the reasons GW amazes me, is finding combi-meltas for your models. I mean how hard would it be to include a sprue of a few extra combi weapons in each sternguard box? How many space marine commanders do they expect us to buy?

Now shrike on the other hand is pretty impressive too, but he doesn't like you having too many scoring units. Every scoring unit you buy means less jump infantry and assault termies and other cc models. Shrike wants you to table your opponent; and while VSM have some great assault units, shrike will have an uphill battle against a lot of other dedicated assault armies, mech lists, and long range shooting armies.

Pedro works really well in an armored spearhead list aswell. two combat squaded tacs in razr or rhino, two 6-7 man SG in rhinos kitted with two of every combi, and a LRC(R) full of pedro, assault termies(need a mix of claws in there), and cassius. that supported by some combi preds and riflemen or speeders and vindicators makes a pretty solid list.

As a mainly IG player, I am not to worried or change my plans due to pedro being on the other players list. However, Shrike, his abilities mean alot of movement, and therefore, the idea of being in close combat, something, that most IG does not do well.

Khan FTW! jk (but really people should look at him more often. also the short story about khan and shrike is really good)

I cast my vote with Pedro on this. You can build a much more flexible army list around him ex: Small, far away's Podlist idea, or Brother Yotakka's armored spearhead idea.

Looking at Shrike, I cant see much more then taking 2 assault marines squads, assault terminators in LRC, 2 iron clad dreadnoughts in DPs, scouts in LSS, tac in DP (you want 3 DPs to drop 2 on first turn), then some heavy support.

Looking back the shrike list sounds cool, but idk how many points it would cost.

GW just loves to mess with special rules. I thought well hell, if vanguards cant shoot when they use heroic intervention, then why not run, then charge (provided you have shrike) But looking at the rule for HI they cant shoot (or run). FUUUUUUUUUUUUU
