So, was playing around and came up with this (This is a given you are taking the Stormlord of Flares to protect your ride first turn)

Royal Court:

Lord w/ Scythe/Scarabs
Lord w/ Scythe/Scarabs
Lord w/ Scythe/Scarabs
Lord w/ Scythe/Scarabs
Lord w/ Scythe/Scarabs/Orb
Cryptek with Chrono/Cloak
Cryptek
Cryptek

First turn,

Flare or use the Stormlord's power to protect these guys
Hijack an Ark
Now this unit can move 12", get out 2", assault 6". When they assault, five enemy models will be testing for scarabs--which contrary to common thought, you target the high ini models (Non PF). Your Lords should easily kill whatever is left.
Your majority toughness is 5 for wounding--and you have two bullet catchers and a rerollable 3++ in the unit for heavy weapons/dreads.
Everything gets back up on a 4+
They can't pick out your scythe lords

A ton of points? Yep. Would be a ton of fun too.

Inside of a CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT

Until it gets steamrolled by another super assault unit. Like 30 DC all with Power Weapons

With no invuln saves, a Leman Russ/Vindicator/Pair of Fire Prisms/Executioner/Monolith/anything with Large blast and AP3 will make short work of this unit.

Anything template would wreck that Deathstar.

182nd Ebon Hawks - 2000 Points

Va'Krata Sept - 2500 Points

Give them all phase shifters.....now that is a deathstar (admittedly not that great of one but quite fun to play with)

Hey, that's the spirit---and give them the weave too. Then add a true character in..

Yeah template would suck, until a decent return roll sees most of the unit stand up again...

Why not just put em in the night scythe and get them into cc turn 2? Instead of taking Imhotek take the nemesor and obyron. That way you can give the unit furious charge or counter attack and with obyron gtfo if things are looking bad. Lol thats gonna be like an 800pt unit but probabaly fun as hell.

Night Scythes aren't very good assault transports unfortunately, they are closed topped, which means they have to be right in the enemies face to ensure they will be in charge range the following turn (Necrons don't have Fleet either, which makes it even harder than Eldar transports). The biggest flaw is that if the transport is destroyed rather than jump out there and being able to run over and hit something you get pushed back into reserves, which basically completely neutralises the unit.

I don't think every model in a court needs an upgrade. A staff of light is a really good weapon that gets discarded pretty quickly; 12" S5 AP3 assault 3 means it's killing most infantry on a 3+ with no save permitted. A cryptek/lord is rather well armed with just a staff of light. Warscythes are really impressive, but do you need 5 in a squad? Having the staves of light in there also means that on the turn they disembark from a night scythe, or while they're moving in a ghost ark, they aren't useless.

Soon to add

I agree with Junk, warscythe is pretty ace but even in CC a staff hits at 5, enough to wound the important things on 3/4+.

Also I find the Deathstar to be max wraiths+coils and possibly casters+ 2 D lords with scythe, weave and scarabs.

That's a good point. Whenever I go into my deathstar musings I always include at least a couple bog standard lords and crypteks for some cheap staff of light action and ablative wounds.

I've been thinking like this for a royal court. Use lords with the SoL, one with a warscythe, a couple of phase shifters and a couple of weaves (and a rezorb, natch). Give them ALL mindshackle scarabs. Include a cryptek with lightning field and another with a chronometron and timesplinter. Have them steal a nightscythe from somewhere (deathmarks work nicely).

Now the idea is to deploy and SoL the hell out of everything. They can take some fire with the weave and phases shifters being allocated aproppriately, re-roll from the chrono and a 4+RP. If they get charged the enemy has to get through the lightning field and mindshackles before they can swing, and then they're still dealing with resilience and hidden warscythes.

I <3 mindshackle scarabs.

That's a pretty solid idea, but I suggest going with the Ghost Ark instead of the Night Scythe as you can assault out of the Ghost Ark.

Or just use Obyrons ability to deepstrike on the first turn. A unit of 10 Lychguard are better in most cases (and cheaper), especially with Nemesor, CA, and defensive grenades from a cryptek.

Yeah, I agree--if you forego the ability to assault out of an Ark--then Obryon Veil is the way to go. What makes me nervous about that is--I've deep struck walking TH/SS Terms many times and people generally jump in a transport, drive away and dakka them.

What's really unique about the Court is the ability to hitch an Ark ride--and assault out of it. Well, that and brain-bug spam. TWC? Oh your leadership 8? Have fun eating yourselves.
