I've decided to create my own Legion/chapter from the second primarch's geneseed.
I'm making them loyalist, because, in my opinion, primarch eleven is chaos. (if you want to know why,ask but I'm not posting it now)

I havent decided on a name yet, same for the Legion. However, I have decided that their tactics would be a kind of alpha strike, zoom in in vehicles, and tear it up in CC, with some support fire.

I've also though about why they arent in the records, and I came up with the idea that they were sent into exile for trying to stop the Space Wolves from destroying the other legion, and are waiting for the right time to return from the Void.

So my questions are:
What should the names be?
Which codex should I use (I'm leaning towards BA)

BA dex sounds good. How about the Protectors for the legion as they were driven out trying to protect their brothers. For the chapter maybe the Loyal because they stayed loyal through the heresy of their legion. I also agree that 11 was the chaos one, but I can't give a good reason

You could call them the Fraternity. Just a thought that popped into mind while I was reading this.

Awesome idea. As for legion name, try something that hasn't been done before so nothing ending in warrios or legion. Perhaps their name can be: "The (something) Guard"? or "The (something) (something related to destroying) Just my thoughts. Have you thought about their primarch, how he was found, who his closest brother primarchs were etc etc? AND I LOVE YOUR VIEW ON THE SBEST WOLVES! Very interesting.

Hmm, thanks for all the feedback guys.

@Theangrysquig, I reckon 11 was chaos because after Horus got wounded by the chaos blade he dreamt he teleported back in time (i think, cant remember) and appeared where all of the primarchs were in their baby tube thingies and he went to number 11 and put his hand on it and said " what a waste, to bad it could never be" or something like that.
The point is, because he was already being corrupted by the wound, and he though that number 11's death/dissapearance etc was a waste means they were probably chaos.

Anyways, I like the sound of "The Protectors", but I dont think it suits the way the legion rolls (their tactics).
As for primarchs he was close with, I reckon the other legion's primarch, Alpharius because of similarites and Corax. He was friendly with the others besides Leman Russ, Lorgar and Mortarion.

Call the the praetorians.

And you should probably use Vanilla marines codex because if they're approaching in vehicles, they obviously aren't assault marines and because other than assault marines the BA codex is very chapter specific.

As for the primarch, decide the way GW did; find parallels between them and a real earth demographic (past or present) and give them a name that sounds like it belongs to that group, but one that doesn't ACTUALLY exist in that group.

For example: If you decide they fight like the Irish barbarians, something gaelic. Fionntán Mac Domhnaill?

Thats actually a great idea im2randomhgh.

How bout this guys:
Primarch name: Fionn Alasdair (with the last name meaning protector of mankind in scottish gaelic.)

Legion name: The Guardians, The Protectors or The Praetorians.

What you guys think?

Agreed. Praetorians alludes to a Imperial Roman background, not a Irish/Celt kind of thing.

I think given the list of names and the celtic feel, perhaps something more barbaric. Im sorry but calling them the guardians or protectors is slightly cliche, given the background you gave us.

I love the Primarch name!

For the legion, maybe The Gaidheali? meaning Highlanders...with an extra "i" at the end to make it sound better

Howbout the english version? Just call them the Highlanders. Maybe have them worship a certain animal like the Space Wolves, but one that causes unrest between the 2 legions?

In "First Heretic" the two legions are refered to as "the forgotten and the purged".

Perhaps they had a changing name like some of the other legions.

Something like "The Star Spears" who apon finding their primarch were renamed the "Star Heralds"

Then after the "unknown disaster" they could be called simply the Forgotten.

I just threw a few silly names in their but you get the idea. That way you can kinda pick a few names.

Actually, the forgotten isn't half bad. Just call them the forgotten. It is actually pretty nice for it to be so simple.

And either way, despite them acting like Romans, the name "ultramarines" isn't actually roman...so...keep the gaelic theme, keep the gaelic primarch, and call them the forgotten.

Yeah, that sounds good, The Forgotten.

the name Praetorians kinda treads on the Imperial fists, since they always are refered to as the Emperor's Praetorians, and is very Roman-esc

The Forgotten...seems a bit to, well emo I guess to use a buzz word.

If you still want a pseudo Celtic name for a chapter

galloglass : were an elite class of mercenary warrior who came from Norse-Gaelic clans in the Hebrides and Highlands of Scotland between the mid 13th century and late 16th century. As Scots, they were Gaels and shared a common origin and heritage with the Irish

OR:

Kerns : A Kern was a Gaelic soldier, specifically a light infantryman in Ireland during the Middle Ages.

just some wiki tidbits, personally the Galloglass has a nice ring to it.

goodluck on the project.

Your post was very informative, and Galloglass DOES have a nice ring to it, but the part I bolded was incorrect. The Gaels were Irish, that Gaedhael were scottish. I just felt like sharing

And actually, now that I think about it, the names of legions have little to do with their heritage. White scars=Mongolian? Imperial Fists=Prussian?

That's why the forgotten is a decent name. It SOUNDS like something that could fit into 40k, but it isn't really in the already.

Nah, I think I'll stick with the Forgotten.
