My cousin is starting a space wolves army and wants to play a game against the new Sisters of Battle codex. He will most likely be using rune priest with JOTWW, and I expect a fair amount of Thunderwolf Cav. Other than that I'm not sure what he will want to try out. But what could be some useful units and combos to use against s SW army?
We generally play games of 1500, 1850, and 2000. I know he clearly has the superior codex in terms of strength/cheese. However, I intend to make it a good game and see if I can pull off a victory.
What are some thoughts.

JotWW will murder sisters squads. Blow up his transport with exorcists and make the priest walk through all your fire, or send Celestine after him. On the off-chance that she fails her test, you can laugh as she still gets back up afterward.
You've actually got a pretty decent counter to TW Cav with Jacobus, a few Crusaders, and a big ol' pile of Death Cult Assassins. The TWs will, of course, devour pretty much anything else in the army they hit though, so be wary. Keep everyone in transports as long as you possibly can.

Yep. What Zefig said.
The problem SW have against sisters is that they are marines. Sisters murder marines.
Demech him and make him walk. Tie up TWC or soften them up and then charge them with Jacobus.
Your best protection against Jaws is to stay in your transport and Celestine is a great unit to go eliminate Long Fangs.

Okay I will try those ideas. Celestine is an independent character according to the FAQ, and only being T 3 shouldn't she at least have a small squad accompanying her? Maybe 5 seraphim to soak wounds?
Also, do I want to be spamming melta guns or multi-meltas then?

No. A thousand times no.
Celestine would only get that squad killed. You want her to get shot at. Every shot at celestine is a shot that isn't going into your arrmy. And she gets back up.
Also, Melta and Multi-Meltas are the way to go. In my army, almost every unit has some sort of AP1.

Bascially, Celestine is a conundrum for your opponent. You can shoot at her and do nothing, or maybe kill her, but she'll be back. You can charge her and she'll kill some of your guys, you might kill her and she'll come back.
Or you can ignore her and she'll annoy the living stuff out of you.
Basically, there's no good answer for her unless you have a fearless large squad that can sit on her for 3-4 phases.

Oh, and just in case you're thinking of it, Celestine will get insta-gibbed by the TWC. She'll put 1-2 Power Wounds on them and then get instand death'd by a powerfist probably.
Good new though, she'll be back!

Yeah, mostly Celestine is great at killing squishy things and absorbing insane amounts of fire. Even with the low toughness, 3 wounds and 2+/4++ can take a LOT before she dies. And then she just gets back up again. Rinse, repeat.

I disagree about the seraphim. I love St Celestine+seraphim. I mean, you can detach at any time still, its not a retinue, and the seraphim faith only makes Celestine's heavy flamer better, while Celestine makes it easier for the faith to go off in the first place.
I think the only issue sisters have is that their troops are very lackluster. My money is on 5 grey hunters beating and running down 10 sisters. TWcav are less of a problem for sisters than other armies because they already fear assault with most units, and the units that dont fear assault (St Celestine and Jacobs+9DCA) are really good at stomping TWcav.

I'm actually going to be playing against SW today with my sisters. Should be entertaining. I swapped out an exo for Rets and Reps, just to try them out. 2k.

Got in a game against my buddy playing my SW (he wanted to try them out with his own list) vs SoB. My list:
Saint Celestine
Uriah Jacobus with 9 Henchmen - Rhino (Dozer)
4 Repentia / 1 Mistress
Battle Sister Squad (10) w/ Meltagun, MM, Bolt Pistol / Chainsword - Rhino (Searchlight)
Battle Sister Squad (10) w/ Meltagun, MM, Bolt Pistol / Chainsword - Rhino
Battle Sister Squad (10) w/ Meltagun, MM, Bolt Pistol / Chainsword - Rhino
Dominion Squad (5) w/ 2x Flamer, Combi-Melta / Chainsword - Immo (TL-MM)
Dominion Squad (5) w/ 2x Flamer, Combi-Melta / Bolt Pistol - Immo (TL-MM)
Dominion Squad (5) w/ 2x Flamer, Combi-Melta / Bolt Pistol - Immo (TL-MM)
Exorcist
Exorcist
Retributors (8) w/ 4 Heavy Bolters, Storm Bolter / Bolt Pistol, Simulacrum Imperialis - Normal Immo
He was trying out all sorts of different things:
Krakenbeard on TWC, WC/SS, SotB
Runepriest with Chooser LL/MH
Runepriest LL/Jaws
Ulrik
2 x LF (4ML), LasPlasbacks
2 TWC (SS/PF, SS)
2 Lone Wolves (TH/SS, CF/SS)
1 x 10 GH (Upgrades)
1 x 6 GH (Flamer, Mark)
1 x 5 BC (Melta)
It was a good game although a lot of it was crazy luck. He and I talked about his list a bit after as well. Spearhead, 2 Objectives.
For me everything went perfectly. I seized for the first time in like 6 months and knocked out or suppressed a good bit of mobility and fire turn 1. Celestine got a charge off on Turn 1 (I did warn him about the dangers of spearhead deployment and jump infantry) and wrecked face.
Managed to get off a perfect charge with DCA against Krakenbeard and crew where Krakenbeard was blocked out of combat by impassible terrain until the TWC died. (Although on the charge, I put 11 wounds on the two TWC and they only failed 1 SS save each!) Even so, KB chewed through the entire DCA squad minus Jacobus. I had to charge Celestine in to finish him off, which almost cost me the game as she should have been dealing with his objective.
Repentia were lackluster and tied up a Lone Wolf for 4 assault phases. Retributors didn't really do what I needed them to and got wiped by wolf scouts. (2 phases of shooting, 1 think 2 failed faith, and I had a SI. Not convinced on these yet.)
A GH squad with RP popped its head up, I laid into them with 2 SoB squads and a Dominion and they evaporated.
Earlier Celestine held on against Ulrik and squad for 3-4 phases, eventually winning! (with 1 wound left, making a mix of like 6-8 saves when she was at one wound).
He managed to block me from his objective on Turn 4 (I had not focused on getting there fast enough) and on turn 5, there was a very tense set of moments where I basically won on one leadership check. He had one 10 man GH squad sitting on his objective in a rhino, with it perfectly placed between terrain and the objective. Exorcist popped it from across the board, around a corner, through some trees, etc. Dominions (only one flamer because I blocked the other one) put like 11 wounds on them, they lose 4 and break. If not for that, it would have been a draw.
Overall, my luck was definitely on my side and I got the win on 6.

Awesome! Did you run 9 dca, or dilute with some storm shields? As for his saves, 10/11 3++ is crazy, as then he gets full swings back!
What did the retrib squad cost in the end with all those upgrades? More than a exo?

7 DCA, 2 Crusaders. Yeah, he squished 2 DCA and a Crusader in return. Then Krakenbeard chewed through all the remaining DCA/Crusaders on the next two phases.
Umm Rets cost about 144 before Immo. Immo was stock and just used for the Repentia, so all told 209 for the squad with transport.
My more boring version of the list that I will probably go with trades the Rets and Reps for an Exo and 5 Celestians (2 Melta) in a normal Immo.

Thanks for the battle report pretre, Glad to see the SOB can beat SW. My question is how did you give the Reps an Immo when they can't have a dedicated transport? Immo was stock and just used for the Repentia.
In your list you listed the Rets having the Immo, but it only holds 6 models so wouldn't you not be able to unlock it if the squad doesn't fit?

There's no requirement that you be able to fit in your transport, so the Rets bought the Immo.
I went second and placed the Reps so that the closest visible enemy model was directly in front of the Immo, so they walked 6 around the side and ended within 2" of the hatch, embarking.
