This battle shows two players giving the Bay Area Open Scenario a test run and also shows off the Necron Phalanx list against a tuned Space Wolf army. Luis wasn't very familiar with the Crons, but as you can see, even making a lot of mistakes, it is a pretty durable list.

We have extensively tested this scenario and found it to be a ton of fun, tactically challenging and provides a lot of options during the course of play.

What do you guys think about the Bay Area Open Scenario?

Little long winded on the mission explaination, but good watch overall! That Cron list was definitely unconventional lol

entertaining bat rap, I like the ending especially. Shows off how powerful that mind shackle is against smaller MSU units =)

On the flip side, would having so many objectives on the table mean that 1 30man IG power blob if it's mostly intact be able to possibly control some 3 objectives if stringed out long enough? or enough scarab bases to contest the same?

I'm thinking that a quake staff based necron list would also shine very much so at the BAO just because of so many difficult/dangerous terrain blocking abilities and really start to limit the enemy's movements. Necron bricks are also very hard to kill especially with sometimes double mind shackle in a unit.

Nicely played by both.

That was a good report, and a good showcase of the mission which I like quite a bit. I think I'm going to give it a few test runs in practice here this week.

I will say that the Space Wolves player made a big mistake re-rolling the Immobilized result for Bjorn. Immobilized keeps him in combat and doesn't give up a KP, meaning he would have won KP's instead of drawing that mission, and then he could have used the lone guy that held Bjorn to hold the middle objective instead, and score a 2-0 victory instead of 1-0 (which may or may not matter depending on tournament scoring). It didn't matter in the end, but it would have been the better play.

I definitely would have played the Necrons much more aggressively in the early game. Those Gauss weapons can tear up Rhinos, Long Fangs or Land Speeders without much trouble, so using them to advantage early and crippling the Space Wolves mobility/firepower could easily have turned the tide of the game early on. That said, it might have been wise to replace one of the Crypteks with a Soldar Pulse HoD to give Night Fight on turn 1. That way one unit can Veil across the board whenever they need to, and the other unit can still be shunted through the Monolith for extra mobility. The Veils seemed underutilized, and having at least one Solar Pulse would have given the Necrons a sizable advantage.

@Zid
Yeah, it was a bit long winded, haha, but I wanted to make sure people understand how to play our scenario before coming to the event. I figure it was better to over-explain it than under-explain!

The Cron list is a bit crazy, but it is super fun as it is so mobile. Luis just didn't know how to play it, honestly.

@Suojoe
It was a good game, and I agree. Anything that can control the other player's movement is a great ability, particularly in missions like ours which require a lot of maneuvering.

@Aldarionn
It is a very fun scenario and very flexible. It rewards smart play and a balanced army. We like it a lot and after a lot of play testing, have found that we feel it is the best way to play the game while staying closest to the original missions.

Yeah, both players made a few errors, particularly Luis. He did not play aggressively enough at all. However, he was just trying it out, so that is understandable.

Reecius, feedback on the BAO mission. I tried it today. CSM vs. Necrons. With a few tactical mistakes on my part, we actually achieved a tie.
1. On KPs 9 each
2. SG - a Turn 7 sweep Advance of Imo, a cryptek and warriors, by Plague Marines got me caught up. They Consolidated into the SeizeG objective, so that I won.
3. However, he won the C&C objective.

That qualifies as a tie, yes?

Regardless, it's definitely a great new take on the mission.
