Why do I get the feeling you have made a grave error posting this in OT? 
On topic, it is pretty interesting. I'm not big on US military laws and whatnot, but it does seem that they're getting a lot less asinine and moving with the times.
If they carry on like this, I can see brighter times ahead.
I can imagine some groups choking on their cups of hate after seeing this news report.

I've always hated how the Navy is portrayed as the "Gay Branch", but I suppose every branch has the possibility of being "queer" now.
Good for them though. I'm joining the navy this summer, and I don't really have any problem with this new policy. I doubt anything will change significantly from DADT. There have been gays in the military for a while now, and it doesn't seem like people are too uncomfortable about it.

It goes beyond that video, lol. The Marines have been making gay jokes about the navy since before Vietnam.
You forgot the Subs:
"60 men go down, 30 couples come up". Heard that alot when i was considering the Navy.
And the Marines always rag on the Navy. It's just their way of saying "thanks" for all those rides they get.

You do know that wasn't always the case though right?
A lot of it goes way way back and isn't a new charge. It comes from small groups of men spending a lot of time isolated together for extended periods. The other part is inter-service joking. The Army, Marines, Navy, and Air Force all make jokes at the others expense.

Honestly, I always thought the Navy got it worse.
Navy is the butt of most of the gay jokes, but I think the Air Force gets most of the derision of not being a 'real' branch (as stupid as that sounds), as far as being tough and manly. Remember we are talking perceptions, not realities. In all fairness, the Marines tend to think all branches that aren't the Marines are not tough and manly.

Well, to add on to what the Village people so skillfully instilled in the average person regarding the navy, you've also got the bit about it being the easiest branch to join (seals and corpsmen excluded). Go to the marines if you're tough, go to the army if your average, air force if your smart, navy if you're scared of getting into a fire fight and would much rather be in the military aboard a boat that will generally never see combat besides blasting things away from miles away. At least this was the common though process for me growing up in regards to my peers.
I'd join the navy as a seal or corpsmen (pretty sure that's the name of the combat medic that assists marines), but I'm not going to on the off chance that I don't get one of those positions and get stuck with a position that I will absolutely hate for 4+ years, like my friend who does sonar work.

Yes those would be the guys, It's pronounced 'coreman' but spelt corpsman.
