Oh but that aside, who cares? No sensible human gives a gak what your sexuality is, as long as you can hold a rifle and kick some ass.

Or in the case of the majority of the Navy and Airforce and 75% of the army, do paperwork and twist spanners and cook and gak like that.

Matt, I'm beginning to suspect you of being a reincarnated poet from a far bygone age of elegance, with the gifts of words you display!

I was thinking more along the lines of the anonymous poet who came up with the fabled "Man from Nantucket" limmerick.

That was a myth more then a decade ago and still is. A military urban legend. I heard this when I conpleted basic/IET and got to my first post in 1999. Its kept alive by shittalkers who've been in service for a a couple of years and like to brag about how tough it was "back then" and how new privates today are weaker/less disciplined/fatter then how it used to be. Sure the standards have changed but its never as severe as people make it out to be.

Although I do believe the navy had some kind of card but it was not a "get out of stressful situation" pass, more of a quick guideline for who to see If you were dangerously distressed or had an issue that a drill instructor couldn't/ wouldn't handle, such as a chaplain or health professional. I can't confirm that for certain, as I was Army. This might even be an urban legend as well.

Not sure what you are reading that informed you that they are using these cards, but you've been grossly misinformed and a decade or two late to the joke. As defense spending is cut and required troop levels are reduced, you will most likely see reduced recruitment, increased training/screening standards and harsher penalties for disciplinary infractions hopefully pruning the ranks of "the massive pieces of gak" that are in or are trying to get into the military.

Whilst I agree with the crux of what your saying. I don't think its a total myth, though clearly the watering down is heavily exaggerated because every Tom, Dick and Harry loves to say "Oh it much was harder when I did it", you know what military people are like. Everyone is a tough guy.

There has clearly been a watering down though, visibly so. RM training in the 70's involved you getting a good fething kicking several times. But politicians get involved in military issues these days, and they see extremely harsh physical punishments for fething up as "bullying" not "making sure you don't feth up again"

And lets be honest, it kinda does work. Getting a proper beasting, and a good kicking on your SERE training prepares you better than spending a namby pamby 2 days in a barn like they do in the Navy these days. You need to feel genuine fear to get the adrenalin pumping, otherwise you can just keep telling yourself "Ah its only a drill" I think that the "I really really dont want this bloke to punch me in the face again" syndrome is an important part of proper military training! And by that I mean combat arms and SF, not just random military Joes obviously.

Oh and crawling through the nettles with my trousers round my ankles for an hour made me remember never to leave my rifle anywhere much better than a stern talking to ever would!

Navy RTC is entirely indoors. They don't even do PT outside, they just have a gigantic gymnasium. I was expecting much worse, and to say the least, I'm disappointed. Not saying it's going to be easy, but it's not going to be the most challenging thing in the world.

Boot camp's standards have definitely lowered, even from when my dad went to Parris Island in '96. They hardly even yell anymore, and they aren't allowed to hit you, apparently. If having a sailor for a mother and a marine for a father has taught me anything, it's that actions teach better than words, and you'll learn a lesson better the harder someone is on you about screwing it up.

Byron was a tremendous douche. What kind of donkey-cave ruins a bunch of women's lives but writes a poem about how awesome his dead dog was? I realize for some folks that question will make no sense.

Yeah yeah, that's why I like him, I tend to like people that are proper bastards but are funny with it. Not in a "shag my sister" kind of way, but I find them entertaining. I bet he was a good laugh at a party.

Plus, I try hard to be a bastard, but I feel terrible guilt if I try to outright feth people, I certainly wouldn't be comfortable with ripping people off or defrauding people. As a result I cant help but feel Id be better served without a conscience like my man Byron.

Plus, as I said he was a sex pest, which is always cool.

I can never remember if Tucker Max was discovered to be a satire or not, I know he's certainly intelligent enough to develop the concept and pull it off if it happens to be one.

The trick is to replace the sensation of guilt with the sensation of satisfaction.

It goes beyond that video, lol. The Marines have been making gay jokes about the navy since before Vietnam.

The Navy being portrayed as the homosexual branch has always been around because of tradition. Its like the new joke "Don't ask don't tell was repealed and changed the Army, Air Force, and Marines... the Navy stayed the same.".

Or how about this one "Submarines, 100 people go down, 50 couples come up.".

The jokes for army usually comes from the marines and usually involve friendly fire.

I really think racism and homophobia would just go away if the media stopped playing it up. They are gay, great, it makes them happy, and they're people too.

That's pretty common, actually. Lots of women who don't want to be in the service get pregnant to get a Honorable Discharge. Or they just meet someone while they're in and end up having a baby... (possibly incriminating myself here) My parents met in the Navy, and the whole thing is pretty romantic, honestly.

I've tackled a few female sailors and they were all filthy if that's any help.

Oh and one of them didn't ask me to use a contraceptive, but the jokes on her because I redacted by the family-friendly inquisition. -Mannahnin.

On a serious note, the gossip on some ships was that certain chicks got knocked up on purpose to get off the boat. They also get loads of paid time off so... stands to reason some will get knocked up for the perks, I dont believe they get dishonourably disacharged though, as the Navy has a duty of care to provide them with childcare assistance, not boot them out of the service.

I'm not questioning whether people have sex, I question whether "lots" of naval personnel get pregnant to get out of the Navy.

I'm not sure if the Navy is different but on your first pregnancy in the army there is an option for discharge. Out of dozens of females soldiers O know one that has taken that road.

My mate met his girlfriend in the Navy, and that's pretty romantic.

She saw him across a crowded galley and he smiled at her, so she walked over, grabbed his hand and then marched him into an empty mess-deck and demanded redacted by the family-friendly inquisition. -Mannahnin.
.

At this point he noticed another guy reading quietly at the back of the room, and shortly afterwards redacted by the family-friendly inquisition. -Mannahnin.
