Hi all, I've been a Blood Angels player since September and have wanted to start a second army as a pet project for fun. I have been reading a lot of fluff and I like Eldar a lot. I was curious if you guys could help me out. I was going to build the army little by little. And by that I mean, squad by squad throughout my next semester of college... I was planning on having a 500 pt list by May. What would be a good place to start? Eldar Dire Avengers Aspect Warriors? or the Eldar Guardian Squad?
Thanks guys.

Dire Avangers are a good base. Also Jetbikes can deliver great value in a 500pt force. They are fast, can move-shoot-move, and are one of the cheapest ways to get a heavy weapon.
Maybe something like...
Farseer with Doom
Dire Avengers with Bladestorm Exarch
A couple of units of Jetbikes, with Shuriken Cannons
Wraithlord with EML

Striking Scorpions are hard to kill in CQB. I know because I have tried

I have about 600pts that I started recently:
1 Farseer Runes of Warding, Guide and Doom
3 Warlocks Singing Spear, Destructor and Enhance
10 Dire Avengers Exarch with Power weap and shimmershield, Bladestorm and Defend
3 Jetbikes
6 Striking Scorpions with Exarch (can't remember what powers he has) with the big chainsword that I can't remember the name of. Not chainglaives and not scorpions claw, the other one.
Depending on the armies you usually face it might be worth swapping the Scorpions for Howling Banshees
I haven't got the codex right now, but it comes to around 600pts.
It works pretty well, the Dire Avengers and Seer Council hold one objective, the Scorpions go and kill stuff on the other, the jetbikes JSJ and then swoop in to claim/contest an objective at the end.

Trouble is, if you take Eldrad in a 500pt list he takes up half the points of the entire army... probably not a good idea. Although i suppose you could field him as a normal farseer.

If you decide to get jetbikes, buy the shining spears box-it'll save you about $4 off retail price, and you'll have full jetbike parts plus the shining spears extra stuff.

I agree he is for a higher point level, but still a good choice. Though like all Farseers; a force multiplier.
I agree with the above lists. Wraithlords might not be optimal and not so great at higher points, but I still take one anyway.
As for the Scorpions, they're best against hordes. If you have a ton of SM about it might be better to take Banshees. However if it is rather balanced the Scorpions come out on top.

3 GJB + Shuricannon + Embolden/Spear Warlock = 129 points. Add a Doom/Fortune or Doom/Guide Jetbike Seer to the unit and it's a "mini-council".
That's excellent value at that point range - amazing speed, JSJ from behind cover, rerollable Ld tests, 24" S6 shooting, anti-tank with the Spear. Model your warlock using a Dire Avenger torso (the bare heads from the guardian sprue or Dark Elf heads are a nice touch) with the spear-style Power Weapon, then use a bit of green stuff to make robes over the legs.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Should I build squad by squad or get the battle force? It looks as if I would save some money. Would this be a good starting army? I could save up some money and get the force in February or March. That should give me enough time to finish painting the bulk of my angels.
