Another tip for creating studs is to use these applicator tips or something similar to make an imprint in greenstuff.

I'm pretty sure someone here on dakka posted these before but I can't remember who. Sorry.

Thanks but I just had a brainwave, a while ago I bought some teeny tiny rivets that are far too small to use for much, but ought to work for this purpose. really hard to work with such tiny objects though.

Do you mean this kind of size if so I take a small blob of GS and rubber shaper, then cut it into small sections using the shaper and round them of with it into individual rivets.

I hope that makes sense also it helps it stick to the model easier, as you have a larger area connected to the model rather than very small blobs that have a tendency of falling of.

The Elita looks awesome! I am greatly inspired to make a fem agent for my syndicate now she reminds me of of Starcraft pre-mutation Kerrigan. Great job!

The tip of a drop-action pencil also works well for this.

I usually drill a 1mm hole where my smaller sculpting work will go, then sculpt GS in/over it. The hole gives the GS more to stick to (also solving the problem LDD brought up), and you just re-sculpt anything lost from the drilling.

Ah very cunning, that would have worked well. Another technique I discovered that works for softer looking bumps is to use a dab of liquid greenstuff. I'm sorted now and will reveal what I have been intricately riveting very soon! Hint: it's a head.

Here is the finished Ogryn Pit Slave I have been working on for ages:

The photos are bugging me a little because I think the metal looks better in real life, the slight hint of metallic paint has caught the light and looks a lot brighter than usual in the photos. The legs are a bit crude but I sculpted those myself (you can see the unpainted model here) and frankly I have more enthusiasm than skill when it comes to that sort of thing. But crude is OK for an Ogryn I think. Oh, and I hate painting wires, I think they are my least favourite thing to paint on any model.

As of yet no rules exist for using this guy in Necro, but I intend to write up some rules for using him as a hired gun, similar to an Ogryn Bodyguard except with an Ogryn pitslave weapon rather than a ripper gun. Something like that ought to be OK. If anyone has any fun ideas, let me know.

It's a few different bits - a rat ogre (from Isle of Blood) torso, on old metal ogryn legs that I basically rebuilt entirely in greenstuff (none of the original legs are showing now). The head is a chaos shoulder pad with an Ork jaw that was bulked out with GS. There are quite a few WIP pics earlier in the thread.

Awesome work dude... He's truely the stuff of nightmares!

There's 2 things I'd add if he was my own work:

1. Flick some blood onto his torso/face. Those chainsaw-arms would kick up a sht-ton!
2. Stubble to chin maybe?

Oh WOW! That is great! I love the armor paintwork! TOTALLY what I'm looking for for my Super Mutants!, except my shoulder armor will be made of truck tires and other things scavenged from the wasteland, but the colors are perfect!

I usually love flicking blood everywhere (when painting minis) but I'm hesitant to add any more to him in case it looks a bit messy. I guess Elita hoses him down after each scrap. I like the idea of stubble though (with those hands I imagine he cuts himself shaving on occasion, maybe that's why he wears the mask). Any tips on painting stubble? My next mini is going to have plenty of body hair painted on so I need to work on the technique.

I love the armor paintwork

I was really pleased with it, but it looks a lot more silvery in most of these photos than it does in person. The top photo shoulder pad looks the most accurate, the rest are all reflecting the light a bit much. I'm not exactly a perfectionist but I did want it to look like old, dull iron.

Yeah agreed, it's real easy to 'over do it' and then you've ruined ya paint job.

TBH its not something I've done yet mate but I'd probably clearfully stipple on very thin layers of grey 'till it looked brutish enough. Lemme know how you get on if you try it.

yeah, you want to mix your hair base color with varying shades of grey to get the 5-o clock shadow look! To age the skin, do that with your base flesh color too, but very lightly, and patiently between layers. It's easy with catachans, because they have such defined Fred Flintstone/Jerry Steingass (my dear ol Dad) jowl areas.

Some WIPs. First up is the building that started off as an entry to the fighting pit competition but changed into something else now. I think it looks more like an Enforcer precinct than anything else, but I quite like scenery to be quite generic looking anyway so it can suit multiple roles. It's mostly made from a couple of Pegasus bridge kits, a laser printer toner and the packaging from some excellent Scotch. Also features some Lego, some Scalextric and even a bit of Mecanno I think. Still plenty to do on it, like texture and gap filling, maybe a few rivets and other details.

Next is a conversion based on this John Blanche illustration:

I have seen a good Bull Gorg conversion before, and I planned to use my Ogryn as a 'counts as' at one point, but he isn't meant to be an Ogryn (going by his stat line) so as good as the other conversions are they aren't quite right for me. I've since decided to join the Nurgle Lord club and do him properly.

Still a lot to do. At the moment I am happy with how he is looking but I want to redo his beard a bit and add a little more detail to his skin. And I haven't even started on his arms yet really. I am a little worried that the flesh I have repaired will not look smooth enough but I can't really tell at this stage, hopefully will be OK. You can see why I asked about doing metal studs - his head and belly were a bit of a nightmare to do until I discovered some tiny rivets I had.

First I wanted to say awesome job on the Ogryn pitslave, that is an incredible model.

Second I wanted to say, very late to the party, you did an incredible job on the Van Saars. I have being playing Necromunda off an on for about 5 or 6 years, and I have never seen a Van Saar gang I liked aesthetically until I saw these. Absolutely incredible kit-bashing and great painting (they look like they have been out in the sump for days). May I ask where those metal bearded heads come from? Those are very cool.

Thanks guys.

I think there are only two metal heads with a beard - one is a Victoria Miniatures head and the other is from the original Van Saar heavy stubber. The other metal heads are Victoria Miniatures too but I had to sculpt my own beards on.

Almost missed this - it is from www.antenocitisworkshop.com.

Currently working on my building some more, going to try some crackle paint on it. Bull Gorg has stalled a bit, I need to add the bull horns that he has, made from cabling, as well as some other details. I have some Brown Stuff to try out for assorted armour plates. I also just got an Ork big trakk from Forgeworld to use for my Ash Waste Nomad gang, can't wait to get started on them. My friend is building his scavvies some ash waste vehicles and monsters and frankly, they are absurdly enormous and intimidating.
