Yeah he looks a bit like he's based on this pic (from an Osprey book by the look of it) but the proportions look wrong on the pic of the mini.

I know that the Mad Robot designer has previously stated on Dakka that, although a render gives an idea of the figure, the render has to have exaggerated proportions so that the final figure looks normal once produced.

That sounds about right alphaecho. Just look at Anvil's interactive render for the regiments line against the actual photos of their miniatures on site. Render always seems a bit more chunkier.

I don't know guys. I've never had bad renders turn into good miniatures. The guy's head is too big. It needs to be smaller. End of story imo.
If they fix the heads, I'm going to make mine followers of Xipe Totec- The Flayed God.
@Lord Marcus, want to propose a pose that is wearing flayed human skin? Recent archeological finds support the conclusion, plus the images of Xipe Totec show him wearing flayed human skin.

Well you'll be able to see when they release the miniature anyway, so I don't see any issues, and it will even then be unnoticeable when you paint him up anyway. I use Anvil and GW parts with my Victoria miniatures(that have much finer faces and arms+hands) and vice versa. Does take a bit to pick them in a crowd.

Excited for Aztech vs Conquistadors. Ought to be crazy popular with the Ghost Archipelago crowd.

life.

So, couple developments:

1. Persians, Germans, Irish are all expected in Port, hopefully sooner rather than later but with coronavirus it's up in the air.

2. RDG's fauns and centaurs will be available on the WGA website for purchase, through our distribution network. These will be shipped starting at the same time as the above 3 mentioned kits.

3. More kits in development. Aztecs and conquistadors moving along.

4. Wargames Atlantic announces WGA outsource:

Quite happy seeing RGD Gaming up there, though I hadn't anticipated WGA's launch into helping others so soon. Well, here's to new better molded kits.

Halflings look great and I can get behind the opinion that GW comedy halflings are done, but is it just me, or do these go too far in the other direction...?

Just me then. Okay.

(Two bows per five figures tho. For halflings. Strewth.)

I'd be up for at least one box of goblins, but I look at the fine, subtle details of the renders as they were shown, and I think that's going to come out in 20-25mm worth of HIPS looking like... melt.
To be honest, I think a lot of that detail looks like make-work and almost as if it's based on some idea of 'heaps of texture=better quality', rather than making a simple, clear design statement. (For want of a better term.) Or even making sense. Random wrinkles running down the trousers? Wrinkles where the knee is pressing against the cloth? A trench running down the middle of the biceps? Whut?

I mean this with all sympathy and good will, WA: would be at all possible for your goblin sculptor to run the iron over that, just quickly?

And any further news on the elves?

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

That’s a surprise. I never would have expected there to be a big enough market for spiders to justify HiPs costs. However, I’ll be happy to buy some for the converting possibilities.

Hmmm...
Spiders plus shieldwolf equals spider women
Spiders plus Frostgrave snakemen equals aliens
Spiders plus tyranid and Antares warsuit heads equals bio organic terror machines

But what can I use to make a spider gremlin?

Frostgrave gnoll heads are a great idea. I could scrape off the fur texture and then use Bretonnian/Elven/Dwarfish dragon-helmet wings for their ears. Or maybe the wings of the imps from Mantic’s Succubus sprue...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The Shieldwold demon-looking orcs might also work after some ears are added. Does Reaper make any Bones bat swarm sets where I could find a number of such “ears” without cutting up an OOP mini?

Point; though giant spiders are one of those things you'd want lots of for not much outlay, right? Compared to two GW mirkwood spiders for, like, 22 quid. (Count 'em: two)

On that note, makes me think of revisiting that skaven idea, that one mention in some old book about the clan that uses bugs rather than the usual moulder beasts.

But what can I use to make a spider gremlin?

Ah! I was looking at the Wayne Reynolds art book the other day. He designed these, I think:

Vermis, don’t Reaper have a lot of cheap options for giant spiders now? I’ve got a few of them as well as some spider centaurs. I was assuming these would be the size of the Skull Pass plastic spiders...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
And those goblins would make some decent gremlins, too. I might be able to combine them with one of the smaller bones large spiders...

Plastic spiders is an interesting choice. Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like I could pick 5 things off the top of my head that I think would sell better, but I assume the people putting their money behind this have done their homework and I'll gladly buy a box!

One, as far as I can see. (Not counting their smaller 'vermin') Seems to be about the size of a Warhammer spider too. Then there's the 'B' word - which might seem rich after I pointed out those goblins, but I'm wondering why each big Bones bug needs a piece of supporting scenery underneath!

Still interested to see how the WA spiders turn out, but thanks all the same.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

If they're older white bones plastic its soft enough they'll bend on the thin legs bugs tend to have so a bunch have scenery to prop up the heavier bits

(lesson learned after some of the bones 1 KS models like the jabberwocky just wouldn't stay upright)

I think spiders are a cool idea, especially if we get various sized ones on a sprue, and they are compatible with humanoid torsos to make all sorts of unholy abominations.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Some of the Wargames Atlantic comments on Facebook hint at sci fi parts and varying sizes, the largest requiring a 50mm base.

Ha ha, I'd totally forgotten about Quelaag!

But there's all sorts of stuff that can be done with spiders in games besides just as low level fodder- make them into dark elf driders/ hybrid monster people, use them as cavalry for goblins and other little critters, convert some into Neogi, necromancer pets... I'm sure there's quite a lot of possiblities.

Pair them up with the giant ants that RGD Gaming has been working on as a follow up to their fauns and you can create some truly abhorrent monstrosities!

Wish them much success but spiders does seem an odd choice.

Back when War of the Ring (I think that was the name) came out for GW's LOTR, I made a very nice-looking army of spiders for about $10 from dollar store hard plastic bugs. Obviously buying the metal ones available would have set me back a couple hundred for the same size force.

TOME's channel shows an example of how this can be done very cheaply and looking pretty decent.
