Over Christmas vacation, my brother and I engaged in some hobby as usual getting an impressive 4 games in a week. Our usual game store had become, sadly, a haven for card gamers with little to no table top gamer presence. When we went there to play, the table was still set with the terrain we used over Thanksgiving. Not a good sign. So after a few trips there, we decided to check out a new store across town. New to us anyways; apparently it's been there for two years or so. We got there to find it almost completely dedicated to Games Workshop games. There was an entire room for just tables, and an excellent stock of Fantasy and 40k products. I fell in love quickly, we got a game in, and then played a big ol' 3000 pointer with 4 other people. It was the most fun I've had with 40k in a long time. If you're ever in the Greenville, NC area, check out Gamer's Haven. Great shop.

Anyways, the moral of the story is that the owner had a 15% discount running on all products, which pushed me over the edge into spending a little money. That, and I wanted to support this awesome store. So I picked up some Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors completely on impulse. Being mostly an Eldar player, I figured I'd convert them into something or just noodle around with some cool models. I've been enamored with the DE range for a while, so i thought it might get it out of my system. Instead, after a peek through the codex, building the models, and painting a few, it hit me that I have to play this army. The models are just so cool! I want space planes to play with! And their rules are unique and look really fun!

So anyways, I thought this might be a good opportunity to start up a new P&M so you all can follow my progress as I start an army from scratch. I'll try to add at least one unit a month to the army, and post progress as I build and paint them.

If you've stuck with me thus far, I'll reward you with a few pictures (people like those right?)
Here's my first squad of warriors assembled. It's pretty straight forward, but there are a few subtle conversions here and there.

The chick all the way to the left and half cut off is one simple conversion...all I really did was put a knife in her hand. I imagine her as a second in command to the Dracon or something.

The heavies. the got fancy helmets to make them look more important. I chopped off and shaved down any helmets with goofy spikes off the point, really cause I just didn't like them, so these guys stand out even more. That, and they have big neat guns.

And here's the Dracon. I love that curvy mean looking sword and the Dire Avenger-esk helmet crest. I gave him that spiky trophy rack and sliced up the phantasm grenade launcher to fit along side it. I'm not sure I'll use that often, but it bulks out the model really nicely.

I also came up with a color scheme and slapped it on a few guys. I really just love blue, and don't have a blue army...so I decided to remedy that. I also wanted to try out a corroded brass, and it turns out dark blue and brass look really cool together. I wanted the guns to stand out from the model, so i went with black/grey and a nasty bright green to show how poisonous they are. I'm really happy with how they came out and can't wait to try it on more things! I'm not sure how I want to base them yet. Dark brown with burnt grass? And I want to get chainmail or another brighter silver to go over the few metal parts. Boltgun metal is just too dark.
Here's the 4 I have done. The Splinter Cannon is my favorite so far.

So there's that. Quite a long post! I'd be flattered with any comments! Keep checking back and commenting and I'll keep posting stuff. Next up...some scourges? More warriors? A raider? Convert my trueborn? What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading!

The colour scheme looks really nice. I think dark brown bases sounds good.

I would go 100% off the wall and try and create a scheme for the bases that look like steel grating like on a ship or possibly some sort of dark church floor with tiles...Something very different from the terrain work we all seem to fall too...Most def since I know personally how excited you are about this project!

This is just some ideas from me that I think would be super sweet!

I hear you bud. I've just done the urban thing before and it got kind old. Dark brown with some grass would go really well with my color scheme, and it looks good on most tables. I'm thinking about trying to find some cheapish resin bases, or trying the cork board method. I need finer sand as well...I only have that gravel that's kind of chunky and can make guys look like their feet are sinking haha. The ship idea is pretty cool, that might be neat.

Oh hey I got that squad done! Except for bases. I think they look pretty good and didn't take too long.

I'm excited to try out the scheme on some different models! Vehicles in particular. What do you guys think? Hit me with some comments.

I like the scheme, maybe darken the bronze a little for a more grim effect?

They're actually a lot darker than they look here. Flash does that haha. I'll try to take some non flash pictures so you can see what I mean.

I'm adding some models this weekend and need a little help deciding what to go for. I know I have a budget of $40, but it could go up to as much as $100. Should I grab a raider? Or if things work out, 2 and another box of warriors? I really want a jet fighter though.... thoughts from anyone reading this?

Hey guys. Been a while since I posted on this. But I've made a good amount of progress! My little Dark Eldar force has grown a bit and is soon to grow a bit more. I've gotten a Ravager and Venom done, and have 20 warriors finished up. I converted an Archon out and a Haemonculous out of extra parts, and figured out and completed a prototype for my Incubi conversions. I've also got a Beastmaster unit in the works which i didn't take pictures of. I've used old metal ripper swarms as razorwings and vampire counts zombie wolves as khymaera. I plan to claim they're captured and zombified fenrisian wolves, of course just to anger space wolves players. Anyways, pictures!

Warriors:

Venom:

Ravager:

I'm really happy with how the eyes on the front came out. Just decals, but it looks menacing.

Archon:

Haemy:

And here's my take on Incubi. I wanted something less deamonic and scary, and more pure, elegant, and arrogant. I'm happy with the paint scheme, but something feels a little off about it and I think it's the blue...what do you guys think?

More to come soon! Like I said the beasts are coming along. After that, I think I'm going to go for more warriors and parts to make more Incubi and some raiders.
Thanks for checking in! C and C is great.

My army started with an impulse buy as well.

Nice use of the hellglaive for the incubi.

The white on blue looks pretty great too.

Thanks for the comments guys! I've started way too many projects with a random initial model or two...haha. Glad to see I'm not alone.

To be fair, I'd seen the Incubi idea around a few places before, I just added the avenger helmet and came up with the paint scheme. So please steal away!
