I have recently came into possession the Black Templar Codex but after much reading i can't simply come up with a good 1500pt list.

It would be sweet to have a list on hand to referance or at least have some advice on good units to use at 1500pts. I would much appreciate it!

Cheers!

Great to see someone taking interest in the Templars !
Their are two different ways usually to play templars, The fluffy close combat way(my favorite and I think best build) or the the gunline one with lazorbacks and 5 man squads with lascannons and plasma guns.

This is my list I usually run for 1500 points and I find it decent in objective games with 3 troops. Since you've read up a little on the codex, you must know about the vows. For the close combat build you use Accept any challenge no matter the odds. This vow gives everyone in your army in close combat preferred enemy. Having preferred enemy is VERY important for the templars. So emperors champion has that vow.

The crusader squads right now I've outfitted for anti-tank mostly, but I've seen my powerfists even being Initive 1 still do some double strength goodness on Toughness 4 and blow up tanks. Sometimes I give them power weapons and plasma guns to save points and use them for anti horde. Thats just my set-up for weapons, they have proven effective for me, but give them what you feel would serve you best!

I have a terminator squad with furious charge and in a LRC for a dedicated transport. This squad is with the Emperor's Champion. Having furious charge charge will give the Thunder Hammers strength 9 for the +1 strength. The three lightening claws are at strength 5 and are re-rolling all missed hits and all failed wounds because of lightening claws rules. Making that a squad not to be messed with. Oh and if you have points, give your LRC blessed hull for negating Bright and Dark Lances their above armor 12 reductor.

The build I gave him is cheap, reliable and anti-everything! I also wrote since I have 60 points left you can either fill in more with a vindicator with POTMS. So it can move 6" and still fire its big demolisher cannon, however it will be shooting the template at BS2. So scattering can be more fatal with this old POTMS( dang fourth edition rules!)

Btw, two other great choices I don't have in this list are Dreads /venerable dreads(Very Cheap and tough) and Land Speeders.
The dreads can be given tank hunters or Furious Assault. I usually give my dreads venerable seeing how it's only a 20 point upgrade, I give it a TL lascannon and tank hunters. A strength 10 lascannon is can do a lot...Oh and the dreadnoughts benefit from the preferred enemy in close combat too! The Land Speeders are always a good choice for every space marine codex that has them. They are cheap and reliable. I usually equip mine with a multi-melta and/or a Typhoon missile launcher.

This is the list for ya:

Emperor's Champion: 90 points
AAC

Troops:

Crusader Squad: 235 points
Powerfist, meltagun, Rhino

Crusader Squad: 235 points
Powerfist, meltagun, Rhino

Crusader Squad: 235 points
Powerfist, meltagun, Rhino

Elites:

CC Terminator Squad:480 points
3x LCs, 2x TH/SS, Furious charge, LRC

Heavy Support:

Vindicator: 155 points
POTMS
or
Predator: 125 points
Lascannon Sponsons, autocannon

Black Templars are the best Space Marine Chapter out of all the Space Marines. They are the most fanatical marines out there. They are on an endless, eternal crusade for the god emperor. AND they get in the face of the enemy. Thats the way to get things done.

Awesome!!! This seems to be a pretty solid list and it fits my playstyle of getting up close and personal!

Thanks a lot I may tweak it a bit but all in all this helps. I normally play blood angels but I like the crusader squads and sword brethren.

Do the crusader squads have neophytes or just all initiates?

Your welcome .

The answer to your question is I normally don't have then but when I do they are 2 of them in the 10 man squad to soak up wounds. And I use them for when I'm running a 15 man squad, I use 5 of them and I run them in a LRC.

Main reason I don't use them in my lists a lot is they don't benefit from the vows sadly. I want as many people getting hits and wounds as possible in combat.

CML terms, and CML speeders. Both are cheaper for you than any other marine codex and not too hard to get into the list. I personally have not played them, but a friend of mine owns a templar army and TBH the amount of missile spam you can put out easily rivals SW armies if not surpasses them.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.

Well i came up with a list using what stormtrooper gave me, I think it will perform very well

I would use your suggestion to make a list kaotik but unfortunatley i have but only one CML out of all my minis but by looking back in the codex you are right that there can be large numbers of them in any list and will look towards the future of making more CMLs and TMLs.

H.Q.

Marshal - 128pts, Power Weapon, Storm Shield, Terminator Honors, Frag & Krak, Melta Bombs

Emperors Champion - 140pts, AAC

5^Assault Terminators - 215pts - 3 Hammer/Shields, 2 Dual Claws, Crusader Seal, Furious Charge - LRC - 265pts

10^Crusader Squad - 197pts, Fist, Melta, Grenades, Crusader Seal - Rhino - 55pts, Extra Armor

10^Crusader Squad - 197pts, Fist, Melta, Grenades, Crusader Seal - Rhino - 55pts, Extra Armor

10^Crusader Squad - 193pts, Fist, Flamer, Grenades, Crusader Seal - Rhino - 55pts, Extra Armor

The reason for the Marshal is so my squads have a better chance passing their morale for righteous zeal but other then that everything else should be sel explanitory
I like this list very much

Only thing is that I believe the marshal comes with crusader seals. Honestly they don't play that big of a difference to me as it is "free" movement anyway. I'd consider getting a LC in place of his PW for rerolls to hit AND to wound. The other major concern is the serious lack of tank busting. You have some up close stuff (12" and less) but otherwise nothing. A vindicator or two in place of the LRC might be better. You can hide your termis behind the vindis so they can't be shot at too.

BT uses the Codex Astartes as toilet paper. They’re an Imp Fist successor, recruit from multiple planets, and are known to be the largest Chapter in the galaxy. They’re on a constant Crusade, keeping it real for the Emperor and not bumming around like the other guys. They hate psykers and can’t ally with them. They’re basically an entire chapter of Chaplains. CC lunatics. What every Space Marine should aspire to be, if not trapped in a Matt Ward nightmare.

I agree with you on the LC on the Marshal!

If you want some good anti-tank, in the Black Templar FAQ vanilla land raiders are assault vehicles, so what you could do is remove 1 marine in 2 squads and put the emperors champion in one and the marshal in the other rhino

I gave your marshal artificer armor, LC, Storm shield, and adimantium mantle(eternal warrior now!)

This at least gives you a landraider with lascannon for anti-tank

You really do want 2 CMLs with the terminators.

Your termies will be firing so they shouldn't need the raider.
If you spend these points on typhoons I would be very happy with the list.

Well i won the tournament basically steam rolling my opponents and winning 1st place I played against blood angels, space wolves, and chaos marines. Rick rolled both the BA and SW players then tied with the chaos one. BT are awesome!
