Hello,

Before i start building all my marines i was wondering what everyones opinion is on the best glue?
Preferably with a small brush applicator maybe?

Well, I really like this:
Spoiler:

Plastic glue just annoys me. Too permanent. This is tough, doesn't bust easy, but is reversible if you want to change stuff up.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

I have 2 glues that I use.

1.) Gorilla Glue:

2.) Plastruct Plastic glue:

The gorilla glue is pretty much GW glue, at 50% or less of the price, and at the same time it dries a hell of a lot quicker and harder. The plastruct makes a perfect weld between plastic pieces, if you don't like the Plastruct, Ambroid Pro-Weld is a much better glue that dries much quicker and makes much better welds. That's this stuff:

Remember to always put some scores with a blade in the area that you'll be applying the plastic glue, this increases surface area and makes for a hell of a lot stronger bond.

Hope this helped!

Im a major fan of the Loctite gel control as well. Very easy to use and control. It can take a while to dry at times though. The bond is strong but breakable if needed. Its also available at Wallmart so that keeps it easy to find.

I agree with fenrir1997 and dmthomas7. The Loctite is awesome stuff. I also use the nongel type, it is good for getting thin coverage. It is also useful for filling seams.

The liquid isn't bad but I've had bad experiences. Such as covering my thumb and a very unlucky marine by squeezing a full bottle a little too hard. The gel has never given me that problem before.

+1.

I've used it for a loooong time - since I discovered it while reading FSM as a teen (no, FSM wasn't a "lad's mag" it was (and still is) Fine Scale Modeller.)

You can't glue yourself to anything with this stuff - unlike superglue.

And the permanence is why I like it. I make my models so that they are in the pose I want them. If I wanted to play with action figures that I could repose for every game, I'd play GI Joes.

Well... you will get a different answer from every person that answers this question. So hey I will put in my opinion Zap-a-Gap medium CA+ is the best so far that I have used but that is my experience.

Most hobby stores have this type in stock, often with their name on the bottle.

I love this stuff to death. The only thing better was Loctite 414(or some number like that) and that stuff is like $28 for 1oz.

Yes. Personally i think that the Remmel is the best.

Much better than GW and it has a really good needlenose applicator

I hate playing eldar, mainly because i don't like getting curbstomped by a 60 foot piece plastic wearing stiletto heels

I use this for my plastics.

For metal and resin pieces I've tried several different brands:

1. Pattex Superglue

2. Filla-Glu

3. Gorilla Glue

Of those three I would give my recommendation for Gorilla Glue, as that gave me the best overall performance.

Cheers,

1,000,000 X this.

Picked up my first bottle of it the other day, really makes building miniatures alot easier, well plastic ones. I was using GW glue and it seemed to take forever to stick. With this stuff I had a squad of space wolves built in now time at all.

This right here.

It just seems to dry fast enough so that I'm not stuck holding something for hours, but if you want something that dries slower they do make that kind as well. I feel I have more control over the rate and location of it too.

Followed by gorilla glue, but Loctite is still my #1.

Thank you All for the Responses, Will check out the local stores on my next day off to try a couple of these suggestions.

Gorilla Glue is very good for some purposes. The assembly of small, detailed models is not one of them.

Gorilla Glue requires water activation, it takes time to set hard during which the parts have to be fixed in place, and it foams up while setting, which obscure detail.

Kilkrazy, while you are correct that original Gorilla Glue behaves the way you describe that is not what was suggested.

Gorilla SUPERGLUE is an excellent, flexible and inexpensive replacement for regular cyanoacrylate.

Kasey, if you're doing plastic models, any of the normal brands plastic cement will work (Testors, Model Masters, etc.)

Same stuff as the Revell thing.

Using Formula P3 super glue for my metals, best I've used so far!

As for plastics, Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. Absolutely love the stuff since my mate recommended it. Easy to control, bonds the plastic after a little melt and lasts for absolutely ages!

Alright, we'll call it a draw

Kasey, bossman - you don't "need" Revell glue. It's just normal plastic cement for miniatures. There may be minor chemical differences but the product is the exact same as the ones I posted above. Any local store which stocks models will likely stock Testors or Model Masters --- they're unlikely to stock Revell as it's more of a European modeling brand (their models are popular here but their hobby products are less common). Notice that almost every Revell post is from Europe or another country.

If you have a Hobbytown USA nearby, go get some. What you want though is the nice thin/metal applicator (some of these even come with a tiny curled pin so you can punch holes in it if the glue ever clogs) --- maybe avoid the old metalic tubes which roll up.

I use the black and yellow generic "super glue" 4 pack for a buck in Walmart. It's held everything together better, but usually lets me break stuff apart if I need to in the future. I don't pin my metals either. It works very well.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I don't have a "best glue".

I have a "best for certain applications" since the various adhesives aren't meant to be a "one size fits all" thing.

For plastic kits, the Revell contacta (but Tamiya, Humbrol, Testors, also have similar products. The Revell one is easy to find here, but the others are easier to find in other countries).

For resin or resin/metal or plastic/metal I use a BSI medium thickness CA adhesive.

Terrain gets different glues depending on material.
