HI

I was playing a apocalypse game at my local hobby store. I was really exited because i had just finished my new claw stompa. It was a large battle on a combination of 3 tables the ork and tyranid were on one side and the imperial forces were on the other. As you can imagine our side was heavily cluttered with infantry and the enemy superheavys were going to be causing a lot of hassle. Any way my claw stompa and another 3 stompas deployed as close to the edge of our deployment zone.Cut a long story short the orks won the first turn our stompas stompeded and my claw stompa managed to destroy 2 leman ruses and when it met the enemy reaver it totally destroyed it. That's 9 strength D hits (1 extra for the d3) all with +2 on vehicle damage table. And if that's not enough it also caused the reaver to have a reactor meltdown (quite easy really) destroying countless other vehicles and infantry.

Don't you think that is unfair a claw stompa only cost 450pts so 3 of them is 1350pts which for apocalypse is low.

Thanks please post and also any ideas on helping to keep stompas alive

Apocalypse is inherently unbalanced. It's more about having fun and playing with lots of toys than anything else. If you want a balanced game then I'd suggest between 1500-2000.

Do turn numbers even matter? Isn't apoc based on a time limit?

The thing is, if they had just placed some cheap roadblock infront of their Reaver, your Klawstompa would've been gak outta luck and would've found itself on the wrong side of some Str. D-weapons the next turn. You have no Power Fields, so you're going to snuff it pretty fast methinks.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

It's not as OP as you think, simply bad play on the Imperial Player's part. A Reaver Titan should have enough firepower to wipe a Stompa off the table in a single shooting phase, multiple Stompas if it's loaded to hunt Titans and other superheavies with Turbo Lasers and the like (I think it can end up laying down 8 5" Str D templates per shooting phase if you go that route). It's kinda like a guy with a broadsword vs a guy with an assault rifle - the guy with the assault rifle 'should' win every encounter, but if the guy with the broadsword manages to get close enough for a swing, it won't be very hard for him to take the assault rifle guy out.

The Imperial player let the Stompas get there, and he learned why you're not supposed to let that happen.

Bear in mind you have to roll to hit the reaver as it has a WS... so its not a clear cut kill. You do however lock it down as you are a SH yourself.

As other have said... bubble wrap units should have prevented your charge had it been deployed right... that and the massive range advantage the reaver has should have seen it safe for at least a turn or 2...

Klawstompas are made for ripping appart vehicles in close combat. If your opponent fails to block it, his fault. It's not like it can simply move across other vehicles standing in the way, and it needs quite some space to move at all.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Probably work

Pretty much the formula for any Apoc game I've played in involves cramming as much stuff as you can onto a board, and then removing it after making pew pew noises. There's not much room for tactics or maneuvering. It's always been kind of disappointing, to be honest. The problem is that inevitably one person will take it to a competitive level (even by accident), and then the game is already lopsided. If you want to 'win' apoc, you can usually just take more titans than the other person, bid longer to set up than your opponent, and then reserve your titans. Have them march on the board and clean house.

I wouldnt say its OP at all. It did what its meant to do, get in close and tear gak up. And from the sounds of it, did it rather well. On the flip side, Ive read MANY threads where 3 stompas are blown away before the end of the first turn. I bet your opponents wont let your klaw stompa do that again

i dunno....i would say that if your stompa tore up a reaver titan, then the reaver titan player did something wrong. it should have blasted you apart before you even got close. especially when it can throw down a number of 5" str d templates at 60+ range. especially if you deployed opposite him. so no....i wouldnt say your stompa is OP....i would say your opponent didnt know what to do with his reaver.
