Subject: Rep. Peter King takes on homegrown Islamic terrorism (but supports the IRA)
Rep. Peter King (R-NY), the new chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, has promised to launch a series of investigations of Muslim Americans beginning in February. “I’ve made it clear that I’ll focus the committee on counterterrorism and hold hearings on a wide range of issues, including radicalization of the American Muslim community and homegrown terrorism,” he told Newsday. King has repeatedly said that he only wants to single out “Islamic terrorism” in his hearings on domestic security, and has even claimed that there are “too many mosques in this country.”
Joining anti-Muslim conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney on Gaffney’s radio program last week, King doubled down on his promise to launch a witch-hunt against Muslims. He repeated a falsehood that he stated earlier — that American Muslims never cooperate to combat terrorism. But in addition to this claim, King made the extraordinary smear that American Muslims aren’t “American” when it comes to war. “[W]hen a war begins,” King said, every ethnic and religious group unites as “Americans.” “But in this case,” King continued, referring to Muslims, “this is not the situation. … Whether it’s cultural tradition, whatever, the fact is the Muslim community does not cooperate anywhere near to the extent that it should”
I had some dickweavil refuse to be served by me where I work because I'm British and he's 'Oirish' and a supporter of the poor suppressed Irish people we nasty Brits are oppressing.
Which I found amusing as my mother is Irish. Which makes me a damned sight more 'Oirish' than him, likely by ten generations, regardless of his lurid green shamrock tattoo.
Really those I've heard talking about it have not one fething clue about the situation in Ireland or Ulster and instead watched Braveheart and superimposed Irish accents on the Scots.
Remember that whilst our earstwhile leaders in the UK told us about the special relationship and all the great reasons to follow the US into every single war they start, they had the leaders of Sinn Fein over to dinner every St Patrick's day and collection boxes for the IRA were to be found on the counter at the banks.

I think the "special relationship" started when we saved your asses in World War I. Then of course there was the matter of that guy with the funky moustache... Frazzled, descendant of kin picking fights (and losing except for that battle of New Orleans thing) with Redcoats since another corporal decided he wanted to be Emperor. Edit: wait, You're an Amurican now MGS. Where's your wife beater Tshirt, can of Bud, and declarations of USA! USA! ?

By principle, I refuse to dance to House of Pain's Jump Around whenever I hear it playing. I feel compelled to demand whoever's playing it turn it off, but that would be a losing battle. Americans have always upheld a fallacy of a belief in 'freedom fighters', because those two words are the exact buzz words the United States have used to back up their similar fallacy of 'American exceptionalism' - they're a 'free' nation and they fight for their freedom, oorah! So when Irish terrorists throw bombs around the UK in the name of 'freedom', of course they'll jump on the fanatacism and endorse it. But when gaks gets blown up in their own country, ooh, it's all wrong!
Here's to the Americans who see the IRA for what they really are - bloodthirsty terrorists with a racist agenda. And for those of you who don't know, race isn't defined by skin colour. Also, here's hoping for a true peace in Northern Ireland. There are still some nutjobs who think there's a religious war on, and feel the need to throw bombs and shoot people. Luckily, they're in the minority these days.
Rant over.

@Frazz, America save Britain in WW1!!!! Since when? What history books have you been reading? Take them back for a refund!! WW2 yeah, but WW1 - never!!!
Anyway, back on topic. Yeah, American weapons we're a huge problem during the troubles. Several instances of Brits being shot dead with American bought weapons, thought to be fair the FBI did nab some buyers in an undercover sting operation.
Not to be offensive to anybody, but there were people in the UK, mostly veterans that I know, who said in the aftermath of 9/11 that terrorism is fun and games when it's in Ireland and other people are being killed, but not so when it hits home... But most Americans IMO see through the romanticism regarding the IRA.

Like all of them. Try again. Where the Soviets are the hammer that stopped Germany in WWII it was the entry of the US that precipitated the end game in WWI.

There is no need to hijack this thread with WW1 talk, but this needs to be settled man to man!
Either 1) We meet up for a shoot-out at the Alamo and allow me the fantasy of having pearl-handed colt single action army revolvers in my possession
or
2) We start a new thread and present evidence. Navy rules: first man to die loses! Evidence will be fine. The ball is in your court. Personally, I can't be bothered. There's football on later. Let's agree to disagree, but definetly a debate for the future.

(Remembers Colt cap and ball in "the box") How far are you from the Alamo...ok, ok we'll agree to disagree.
(is it weird that I am about to ship out about 300 rounds of .303 enfield when this comes up?)

Do you still have all those camps you locked the japanese americans up in during WW2? I'm sure with a bit of paint they could be pressed back into service locking up more innocent peop... I mean defending all freedom loving REAL americans from the evil cancer lurking in the heart of america...

The entire US government used to support the taliban.
Hell the Irish have been fighting British Imperialism for centuries before it occurred to the Americans to do such a thing.

I think people were a touch more annoyed about the fact that the US was kinda 'supposed' to be on our side... not sure why they were supposed to though...

That's right, the end of the Cold War saw the Soviets invading Aghanistan, and Nato supporting the Mujahideen that after the fall of the Soviet Union would become the Taliban. And you're also right about the latter: the IRA nutjobs of today think they're still fighting a half-millenium-long campaign.

I think the "special relationship" started when we saved your asses in World War I.
Oh for God's sake, not this again *facepalm*.
Don't you think it reflects quite badly on America that you (meaning America at the time) just sat back and watched us fight a far larger enemy for years before you bothered to get involved? Regarding WW2, if Germany had invaded Britian then that would have denied America a staging ground to launch operations into Europe and would have resulted in a very different outcome! So you see, we needed each other.
Regardless of what you say, we showed real balls taking on Germany without your support so it bothers me when I hear an under-educated american spouting of ignorant clap-trap that he probably got from his parents. By the tone of your post, you sound like you dont like us very much. I like Americans on the whole, just not the racist or incredibly ignorant ones but hey, you get that anywhere right?

Taking on Germany without our support? You forget yourself. There were marches supporting our taking the side of Germany. After all we fought two wars with you people and there were quite a few more Germans than English in the states pre WWI. It wasn't until the Lusitania and the Zimmerman Note that you became good guys. Before that you were just..guys.
