Hey as it says,

Ive played in a few DH campaigns lead by a friend in cardiff (im living in london atm) where i visit quite regularly. I'm going to be GMing a campaign for a friend in london, its looking like it will probably be just the two of us. Ive never Gmd before so would appreciate any tips etc on what to expect and what you would recommend i prepare, also gonna ask for a few tips off my friend here in cardiff.

Im planning to have my friend have his one main PC, and then the character be joined by 3-4 other characters that will vary depending on what situation he is in, and he can have control of those 4 characters.

cheers

Tris

First things first, start off slow and keep things focused. Don't try doing an open world game.

Make sure you read the rulebook. Then read it again. Get the rules down, have a basic understanding of what all the skills do, less so the talents. Have an idea were you want to place them and what they will be doing. Make sure to have at least a basic idea of what goes on in the 40k lore.

If your friend has played many roleplay games before, the multi-charater idea is ok. But I would restrict it to 2 extra characters. Don't allow him to say, make another one who just makes items for the party using crafting, and of course the same is said for a psycher who just heals.

3 characters with different personalities and goals is hard enough for a player to handle.

3 characters working together perfectly can handle anything you would throw at 4-5 characters.

Controlling 2 characters at once can be difficult, let alone 4. You'll find that the player immediately identifies with one character (and always says things like "I will do [XYZ]") whereas the other ones become 'he' or 'she'.
