So I recently uncovered my old Space Wolves army from waaaaaaay back in the day. And I do mean way way back. I thought this thing was long long gone, but instead I found it in the crawlspace in my parents attic. I've started fixing them up, and with the models I've got, I plan on running something a little like this.
2000p Space Wolves
HQ @ 440p
Rune Priest /w JOTWW + Tempest's Wrath @ 110p
Rune Priest /w JOTWW + Storm Caller @ 110p
Rune Priest /w Storm Caller + Tempest's Wrath @ 110p
Rune Priest /w JOTWW + Living Lightning @ 110p
Troops @ 915p
8x Grey Hunters /w Melta Gun + 1x Grey Hunter /w MoTW + PF in Rhino /w Extra Armor @230p
8x Grey Hunters /w Melta Gun + 1x Grey Hunter /w MoTW + PF in Rhino /w Extra Armor @230p
8x Grey Hunters /w Melta Gun + 1x Grey Hunter /w MoTW + PF in Rhino /w Extra Armor @230p
8x Grey Hunters /w Flamer + 1x Grey Hunter /w MoTW + PF in Rhino /w Extra Armor @225p

Well only just some little points, the army is so solid you can bounce cannons off it.
Just make sure the wargear on the rune priests are different too, you can stick a bolter on one, melta bombs on another and a wolf tail talisman on a 3rd for 4 unique guys.
I would drop the grey hunter with the power fist and replace him with a wolf guard, you get 2 points back, another pf attack and increase the leadership of the squad. Since you haven't put in ten men you don't loose out on anything.
Don't put motw and the pf on the same guy, from my rules as written reading, they don't stack, you can get more out of them with 2 seperate guys.
Extra armour is grand, it does what it does but is a little pricey, maybe you could drop it and put a wolf banner on each squad and bump up their assault stats.
Long fangs are perfect, so good I'd like to steal them from you.
That's my view on improving the army and you don't even have to buy anything else.

In all honesty if you want to go with a 4 Rune Priest list, you might want to give all of them Living Lightning instead of 3x JotWW. There's a reason why people love Autocannons, and its because a colossal amount of Str7 shooting ruins just about anyone's day.
Just be prepared for people to hate you when you hand them a list containing 15 missiles and 4 LL casts per turn.

Side effects of worshiping Papa Nurgle include (and are not limited to): Boils, scabs, internal bleeding, external bleeding, bleeding from the gums, eyes and ears, sweating, dehydration, furuncles, rash, pus-filled sores, nausea, vomiting, bloody vomit, black vomit, black & bloody vomit, sneezing, runny nose, dry nose, coughing, dry cough, wet cough, not-so-dry-but-still-raspy coughing, fever, hay fever, athlete's foot, athlete's arm, swimmer's ear, farmer's tongue, drowsiness, sleepiness, insomnia, mad cow disease, mad postal worker disease, loose bowels, constipation, anal leakage, and blood clotting. In most cases side effects were generally in the extreme and permanent. Consult your local cultist before worshiping Nurgle. |

You don't think 2+ D6 Power Fist Attacks are better than a single terminator? Doesn't that terminator mean I can't chase people down when they fail morale? Just wondering. Also, there are 9 men in each Rhino, so that the Rune Priest can fit and ride along. That being said, you get to take the RP's LD instead of the terribad Grey Hunter's LD. Automatically Appended Next Post: Additionally, I think you're right about the JOTWW vs Living Lightning. LL is much better. I'm going to modify my list slightly, but I still think the MOTW /w PF is better than 1 Wolfguard Terminator. Plus the terminator can't ride in a rhino? Can he?

The PF does not stack with Mark of the Wulfen...also no one said that you should take Wolf Guard Terminators, just take the plain old Wolf Guard with a combi melta and a PF. Extra armour really is too expensive for what it does, I would skip it.
Living Lightning is better that JotWW really even with all the Necrons running around. If you decide to go with 4 Rune priests then take 3 LL and 2 JtWW imo. With A wolfguard in each squad I would take a 5th Wolf guard with termie armour and CML to stick in one of the longfang squads.
The points of your Rune priests are not correct, get chooser of the slain on those that will have LL.

Hrm. Also, my Rune Priests Currently have Wolf's Tooth Necklace's... so they can hit on 3's... but they are already WS5.. so whats the point.... perhaps I have some spare points suddenly. Automatically Appended Next Post: Alrighty. I think I've got it. I don't want to 100% spam Living Lightning because that's just a little bit cheesy. Plus I really like JOTWW, Necrons low I helps with that even more, plus my local meta has a lot less mech, and a lot more infantry based type shenanigans. Additionally, Tempest's Wrath is almost a requirement, give how much fast moving shenanigans there are in my local store. Lots of DoA, Daemon Armies, Deepstriking Deathwing, Grey Knights... the list goes on. So, thanks for all the suggestions, currently this is what I've got; LMK if you see any more improvements to be made. Also, the Cyclone suggestion was genius! Last but certainly not least, whats up with the Assault/Auto dreadnought, even though the usual build is full rifleman? With all the changes I made, I was left with a nice chunk of points to spend. My immediate thought was rifledreads, but sadly, after adding 1, I'm 20 points shy of the other. By running 2 auto/assault dreads rather than 1 auto/auto dread and spreading those remaining points around, or taking some other silly choice (I'm looking at you, Landspeeder). So basically in the end, I get the same number of Autocannons on the field, keep the list synergized, and get a pair of assault cannons out there too, which are one of my favorite guns in 40K. Always fun to roll an assault cannon. Without further adieu, here's the updated list. Thanks again for the help, and any further suggestions. Remember that you will still have to differentiate between your Rune Priests when it comes to wargear in addition to Psychic Powers. Currently, you would have to do something along the lines of:
Rune Priest (CotS, LL, TW) 110
Rune Priest (CotS, LL, SC, Meltabombs) 115
Rune Priest ( JotWW, TW, Meltabombs) 105
Rune Priest ( JotWW, Storm Caller) 100
Also, with the most recent list posted, you'll probably want to go back to 8x GH per Rhino, in order to fit both a RP and WG.

Most people do full Riflemen in order to get the maximum benefit of 4 twin-linked shots at 48", rather than two at 48" and 4 at 24". While I too love Assault Cannons (and Plasma!), they're better suited on a Dreadnought that keeps its other arm a DCCW, making it a closer range but still all-purpose monster.

The advice so far has been golden. Personally I'd downgrade the Power Fists to Power Weapons rather than scrap them entirely, but it really is rubbish to take a Power Fist on a Grey Hunter now that you don't get the extra attack in close combat. I'd do something like this: 2000p Space Wolves HQ @ 440p Rune Priest w/ Chooser of the Slain, LL + Tempest's Wrath @ 110p Rune Priest w/ Chooser of the Slain, Meltabombs, LL + Storm Caller @ 115p Rune Priest w/ Storm Caller + Tempest's Wrath @ 100p Rune Priest w/ Chooser of the Slain, Wolf Tail Talisman, JOTWW + LL @ 115p Elite @ 172p x4 Wolf Guard w/ Combi-Melta + Power Fist Troops @ 800p 8x Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun, MotW, PW, Wolf Standard, Rhino @200p 8x Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun, MotW, PW, Wolf Standard, Rhino @200p 8x Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun, MotW, PW, Wolf Standard, Rhino @200p 8x Grey Hunters w/ Meltagun, MotW, PW, Wolf Standard, Rhino @200p Heavy Support @645p 6x Long Fangs /w x5 ML, TL Lasback @240p 6x Long Fangs /w x5 ML, TL Lasback @240p
It actually puts you at 1892 points. Not sure what you could do with the other 8 points. Maybe take another Meltabomb on one of the Rune Priests and be 3 points under. Alternatively, drop the Wolf Guard and 1 Long Fang ML and take that 3rd Long Fang pack again, complete with TL Lasback. But 3 ML and a TL Lasback is worth the sacrifice to bolster your Grey Hunters in my opinion. Each of those packs will be a pain to deal with. You have D6+2 rending attacks, 3 Power Weapon Attacks, 3 Power Fist attacks, and 4 Force Weapon attacks on top of the 18 normal attacks. Not bad for the first round of combat. Edit: I didn't see the two replies come in somehow. Complaining that spamming LL is cheesy when you are already taking 4 Rune Priests and are taking all ML toting Long Fangs is silly. If you're going to do that you may as well make other sacrifices to your strengths. I personally wouldn't skimp out on your Grey Hunters. The Wolf Standard alone increases their combat capability dramatically at times. And remember, not taking Razorbacks on y our Long Fangs means you aren't firing for 1-2 turns during Dawn of War missions. You don't gain anything by dropping the Razorbacks and taking Dreadnoughts instead. You lose mobility for your Long Fangs when they need it and lose stronger weapons for dealing with AV13 and AV14. I wouldn't get the Rifledreads if you are sacrificing razorbacks for Long Fangs.

This is a great point. People might complain at the sheer amount of spammed units, but in the end, if you want to play to win, play to your army's strengths. If you're going for a theme list, and don't really care about winning, the SW codex has a great number of fantastic and fluffy units that can be used.
Also, cowmonauts math was slightly off in his last post. He did indeed end up at 1892 points, but the HS slot will only total up to 480 points total. Since you are aiming for 2000 points total, this leaves you with 108 points leftover; just enough for 5 Wolf Scouts with a Meltagun, and Mark of the Wulfen (or power weapon). This is a fantastic little unit that more than makes up for its low cost.

Apparently I can't math! Off by 100 points. Which as AreTwo said is perfect for Wolf Scouts with a Meltagun and MotW. That makes for a strong list, if spammy!

I'm almost completely convinced that math stops working when attempting to total up army lists. I've managed to come up with 4 different numbers for a list before, without changing a single thing. Its at that point I stop trying to total things up and start drinking instead.

Sage advice! I'm not sure it helps but it can't be a bad response if alcohol is involved.
Anyways Cottonjaw, I'm not sure what else you could do to your list unless you drop 2-3 Rune Priests. Given the firepower and psyker defenses they bring I'm not sure that's worth while from a power gaming stand point. But it does give you 210-330 points to play with.
