I personally do not think that the leaked rulebook is legit and no one is certain so I am going to just wait till the new edition drops and I am not even going to look at that leaked rulebook because I don't think that it is real because I don't think GW is that careless about their work.

What do you guys think?

I think it might be real. It lines up with many of the previous rumors and the sheer size of the document point to it being real.

If its a fake, it is a really convincing one. We can't say for sure one way or another. So we can treat it however we want. it would be stupid to discount it entirely.

untill we have solid evidence one way or the other we will be unable to make a call for its authenticity.

This. If you cant acknowledge the fact that its a playtest manual then you either haven't been in the hobby long enough or you dont pay enough attention to past rumors.

Having skimmed through it, I very much doubt it's real. GW's rules have been, for years now, consistently streamlined the game, were this genuine, it would take the game back to 2nd edition levels of detail and clutter. I also find it difficult, low as my opinion is of GW's studio hacks, to believe that any rules so ill-conceived and clumsy as 'Evasion' (with cover saves on top!) would be seriously considered for a published game.

It might have been cobbled together from playtest ideas, but I would be astonished (and not a little aghast) if any significant quantity of the leaked rulebook we've seem made it to publication. My best guess remains that, like most rumours, it's the work of some sad blighter with too much time on his hands.

I personally think that it is by the GW development team, but won't be 6th edition. Maybe some sort of fan-dex made by the GW dev team.

Like I posted in the rumors section:

Has anyone considered the fact that this set of rules could be called: 'SmackCrasher 20000' and they could be used independently of what GW releases?

I mean, if they are good rules, then they are good rules... even if GW adds new models in the future, the rules contained in 'SmackCrasher 20000' could be applied to all new units.

If GW does not release something along the lines of this leak, I may not play 40k anymore. I was so pissed at 3rd, enjoyed 4th a little more, was okay with 5th, but this makeshift rulebook is what I want in a rulebook.

Sure some things could be better, but 5th was just so... easy. I like complexity. And after reading the book a few times, this makeshift rule set is not even that complex.

If this is GW product, which I believe it is, thank you Games- Workshop!!!!

Everything you put about this new Rulebook matches perfectly with rumors that have been out for a long time. The rumors have been that this edition will be much more complex.

I really believe that it is not the real thing, but a feeler from which they will garner some feedback through online complaints.... forum battles will bring out some information that they will use to tweak stuff before it comes out.... just like they did with the dreadknight that was dropped 1T before coming out for real...

People here on Dakka who played it reported it to to be just as fast and easy to play as previous editions.

Personally I'm 50/50 on the matter. Could be a hoax or could not. I do however wish it to be legit, as its a nice set of rules.

Funnily enough I was at warhammer world today...saw the big headquarters building.
Was contemplating marching in, beating up Mat Ward and asking the team if it was a fake.
But I stayed at my game table and beat necron/eldar. Far more fun.

Funnily enough, so was I. Popped up with a couple of friends for the Vampire Counts release & to play a game of Gothic - fun way to spend a Saturday.

From talking to one of the chaps who was with us, who knows people with the leaked ruleset, it sounds, cover-to-cover, like a current play-test version. It's pretty complete, obviously lacks the photographs, but it is certainly in the GW style and looks like it's more or less ready to go. We're going to give it a try out and see how it plays leading up to it's release, because even if it's an earlier play-test version it still gives us a bit of an idea how 6th Ed. will play out. Sounding like it will be a lot more tactical and strategic, with units hitting harder but dieing more. If it's a fake then it might prove to be an interesting diversion - might even be better than actual 5th Ed or even the actual incoming 6th Ed!

My thoughts. It seems "real" enough. But I doubt it's the latest, much less the "final" version (which may not even exist yet at GW).

I don't think your options work well enough for the poll, honestly. I put "other" because I believe it's a working rulebook-it's a test draft, but not the final copy. So do I believe it's gospel? No, I think things will change within it. But I also believe about 75-80% of the thing is what we'll see this summer. And just in time for my birthday

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I agree that it's a real test bed...the following is just my opinion...

All of the rules changes are experimental. Staff will playtest and keep the changes that improve fluidity and encourage model-buying. What does GW want? A LESS complicated game that promotes the purchase of models that are not popular in 5th edition.

Why did the latest Fantasy edition nerf Cavalry and boost Infantry? To promote the purchasing of Infantry which were not great in the previous edition.

They have to balance the purchasing differences of veteran 40k players vs. new players, so don't expect transports to get nerfed hard. In all likelihood they'll be just as useful, since they have the lowest $/points payout for gamers.

Expect an emphasis on higher points games (rather than 1,500-1,850, expect average game values of around 2k+). 40k was always meant to be a 2-3 hour game, so if they can improve the fluidity, they'll do everything they can to increase the standard points value at which it's played.

As for the rules changes, very few will probably see the actual 6th edition rulebook and what we'll probably have is something that is 75% 5th edition and 25% new.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.
