I live in the Phoenix Valley and we just got the new GW in Scottsdale and I was wondering should I support my flgs that seemed to survive the first GW in Phoenix or should I go to the new GW.

I have a few stores in my general gaming area and I tend to support the one I go to most, not that I dont support the others from time to time. I would stick to the FLGS.

Disclaimer, I have never had to deal with a local GW store so not really sure what they are like.

YMMV though.

Find what one works for you and support it.

Amazingly, not every gaming decision has to be 'politically' motivated, and you do not ACTUALLY have to live according to the "RRR HATE/LOVE GW" nonsense on the internet.

I'm just asking because I love that there is a GW where I live but I love small business and a flgs in my area and I don't want either to go away.

So go to both?

Yeah. Go to both.

Simple problem, simple solution.

By shopping at one store, you are not contractually obligated to go there every single time. Just spread out your purchases and support both.

If you only play 40k and fantasy, then going to the GW store and figuring out which of the two you like more is what you should be doing. If you play any other table top games, don't bother with GW since they don't allow you to even talk about them.

The other side of the internet

Go to the FLGS when it has it's gaming night and then GW when they're playing your game.

You will only hear about GW games at their stores. If you have absolutely no interest in any other game, paint, hobby supplies, etc. then go there.

GW stores are OK for playing a game or two, but I would never make one my main store.

2012- stopped caring

Is the GW a reasonable size? I have nothing against GW stores but would never play in them. Theyre just to darn small. I miss the days when a battle bunker was actually bunker sized. (Glen Burnie in particular)

There is no reason not to support both.
Did you goto a tournment at the shop? Pick up blisters box etc
Did you go for a random game day? Pick up something that day, brushes, paint, etc.

My gaming is less, so I really only frequent my FLGS. Plus, at Showcase, the owner puts up with rants, that earns him the rights to my purchases I like to think of it as i'm helping to put his kids through college.

Support both. You should support them in direct percentage that you find yourself playing at their establishments. If one has a better gaming environment and is more enjoyable for you, then you will go there more and support them more.

If you go to both, then support both.

I make it a point to attempt to buy something every time I play at a location, even if it is just one day like a tourney or something. I have a list of 'eventually wants' and 'needs' and I choose one item and buy it. I get a good day of gaming and the store gets my support as a thank you.

This makes the most sense. Reward the location that you like and go to more in order to be fair. If you like one significantly less, don't feel obligated to go to support them just for the heck of it.

Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.

The answer is always the FLGS.
Except when the guys running the shop are unsufferable asses.

Depends it sounds like you've been to the FLGS, if they are good continue to support them. Scout out the GW and determine if it is worth it.

The easy answer is throw money at the one you like and it'll stay around. Don't throw money at the one you don't like and it may eventually go.

I would almost always say FLGS too, if they are decent people. But then again, I am a multisystem gamer, and even if I was a GW-only gamer it is quite unlikely GW would close my local store, as it is the only on the country - even if it is running a deficit it likely creates local interest for GW games.

If any of the stores are unpleasant to be in, I cannot see why you would choose it over the other anyway.

Hello,
I tend to support my local game store due to often knowing the people there. They have a share of the community and are often your friends and nieghbors. The local store here has people staffing it that I went to school with thier older siblings. That said for events I will go out of town, as they do not have many in this particular store.

Regards,
Carl

I would go to the one where I have the most fun. It would also depend on the GW staff's level of constant shadowing. I used to work for GW and I would greet someone as they came in, and if they looked like they were lost I'd try to help them, but I tried not to hassle people as soon as they got in there as it bugs the hell out of me when I go shopping.

This one sounds like a no-brainer. Support the FLGS!

At GW you are supporting GW. At the FLGS you are supporting the entire local gaming community. If you do switch your support to GW, don't whine when the FLGS goes out of bussiness.

Yeah try to avoid the incestuous relationship GW has with its stores, do not support them, they kill your lfgs and be gone, they have no real interest in your local community unlike your store.

The question is, Is Games Workshop Supporting You?

They are a business. You are the Consumer. That is all that they care about.

Your money and nothing else.

Support your Local Gaming Store. Real people giving real service.

Adam's Motto: Paint, Create, Play, but above all, have fun. -and for something silly below-

"We are the Ultramodrines, And We Shall Fear No Trolls. bear this USR with pride".

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

You must recite every rule of Dakka Dakka. BACKWARDS.
