I always wondered what was better tanks or monstrous creatures so I came up with positives and negatives for both the unites.

TANK

Positives- Most troops can not hurt it
Starts to do a lot of damage at turn 1
Lots of weapons
Need high powered weapons to hurt it
Can move 12 inches or more
Can take out anything.

Negatives- Lots of points
Can be destroyed in one shot
Once in close combat it will usually be destroyed
Hard to hide in cover

Monstrous creature

Positives- Can be good in shooting and in close combat
Gets 2D6 when penetrating vehicles
Has multiple wounds
High toughness
Cheaper than tanks

Negatives- Does not do a lot until turn 3
Almost anything can hurt a monstrous creature

Now here is the question. What do you think is better the tank or the monster. I think the monster is better because It is good in shooting and in close combat.

If you don't need tanks, don't bother. MC's tend to be better overall, and only grey knights pose issues in reality with all those instant death force weapons they have.

And it depends on the tactics you're employing.

for example, with my tau I can spam vehicles and end up with ONLY my HQ not having an AV.

SO basically I can have a 1500 point army fighting the ~500 points of his army that can damage it.

Monstrous creatures, however, can quite live up to their name.

It really is situational.

Genestealer commando units are a big threat to monstrous creatures. Granted, Tyranids have the majority of them. But a Broodlord with Implant attacks can explode a Dreadknight or Wraithlord in one hit.

Don't forget that MCs can't be stunned, unlike vehicles.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Though MC's can be affected by JOTWW. Though both MC's and vehicles will suffer from the LF missle Spam.

MC's can be poisoned too, unlike vehicles.

Fire 20 splinter shots into a vehicle, and all you'll do is tick off the occupants.

Do the same to a MC and odds on it's a pile of gently steaming toxin-laced meat, regardless of Toughness.

That said i prefer MC's to vehicles. Layover from my Nid-playing days, i guess

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

MC's just..seem more fun, and their models tend to look better. I've always kind of wondered why the Penitent Engine isn't an IC. And lets not bother complaining about the person hanging on the front of it, just..babble something about a force field protecting the pilot. I'd actually buy one if it were, but as of now it's my paper weight.
