The frozen north.

Heya,

I am attempting to assist a brand new player. She recently purchased a number of 'nids to start her first army. When informing a red shirt of her intention to paint them in the colour of Leviathan and asking for tips he told her to spray prime them all black because the priming colour 'didn't matter.' She is now left with almost half of her army primed black. To my knowledge (ie. simple green) that stuff does not come off. Does anyone have any suggestions, either on stripping spray primer or going from a dark base to a fairly light finish?

Would the thickness of two coats of primer not obscure detail?

Which brand primer did she use/ How thick is the prime coat. if the prime coat is thick..it's going to have to be stripped and redone. If it is a thin coat but a gloss, you can fix this by giving it a flat coat (a simple thin layer) and your paint should then stick with out to much trouble.

@your second post/question yes it would cover up / hide alot of detail. Strip it and re prime it. No not all the black will come off 100% But..it will be damn near close. Be the gentleman of the store and do it for her lol.

You could layer up thin coats of a white or up through the greys... Or just paint them up as Leviathan. They'll just be a darker color (more time in the sun? )

Simple Green should strip primer - it'll just take some time.

Look for something called Purple Power. I find it in the auto/painting section of the local walmart, your area will differ.

It will strip black primer though not as quickly as other paints. For plastic I use it at about 3:2 cleaner:water, pulling it out and scrubbing with a 99 cent toothbrush every 12 hours or so for a couple of days. I've left a squad of FireWarriors soaking for 4 days with no loss of mold detail, and only minor ungluing, though some areas of plastic were lightening after the third scrub.

I wish I could find that squad so I could get pictures, or just USE them again. Losing 6 models SUCKS.

It's the GW black spray. I submerged in Simple Green (The tool I usually use for stripping) for about 60 hours, but It showed no sign of being effective.

If it's only one coat you can simply spray another layer of primer over it. I've done it many times!

Brown makes a good intermediary between a black primer and a light top coat. Tell her to make sure the paint is very watered down and you shouldn't have issues with details being lost (Unless the primer already did that)

Try rubbing alcohol to remove the primer, I've said it before but it's a simple solution that works. Give it a good scrubbing after soaking it for a fe hours. I use 91% isopropyl alcohol I get from cvs.

+1, but I use it straight. Stripping some shoulder pads right now...

Strip that crap off first, then go Prime them white (or light grey, gotta base in Bleached Bone anyway).

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?
