Kabal of the Nihilist

Today I finally start my planned Dark Eldar army, one that I have been itching to do for months now. To do this army, I have sold most of my old 'nid army in order to pay for it so there really is no going back!

Through out this topic you will see OOP models, and the reason for this is that I prefer them and they are what I was able to find. There are a few models in the new collection that I love, like the warriors and wyches. Yet, I will be using mostly converted old models in order to both save money and be unique in a world of shiny-new-spiky-DE. xD

So, to start this off, here is my test model. I always test new color schemes on smaller vehicles so I can see what I'm doing easily. This model is finishedNo, its not finished. Lol. I am happy with it. I do think I need to focus on my freehand work somewhat though, but such things will come with practice as all things do in the hobby world.





And yes, my camera is really misbehaving right now. I will take better pictures in the future.

Looking alright so far.
I like the freehand style on the front, that looks great (if pink xD)

Though imo this wants more definition overall. I'd say get some gloss varnish and make the 'metals' gloss black / gold (the grills, the blades, the jet), give the whole thing a blue or purple wash then drybrush it in a grey (codex or adeptus battlegrey) to bring out the detail.

But I look forward to your future work - I like the old models too, all my raiders / ravagers / bikes / warriors are the classic models, only my trueborn, razorwing and one of my venoms are the new kits.

Ovion... Thanks for the advise! I've played with them, added some definition and worked on the pink detailing. These are the finished unit, 5 reavers. I have 15 more of them, but I'm not touching them right now.

Next, some conversion work to get my Court of the Archon ready for a battle in the next few weeks.

The start of painting one of my raiders...

Really pushing an oriental theme with this one.

So, today I made progress with the raiders. The oriental theme doesnt feel like its working too me, and so I am going to go back to the gore idea I had previously.

The idea revolved around being able to get raised blood drops and splattered bloody vechiles, with victims chained in various places. Of course, this idea will have to see me getting some corpses and spare parts, but since my partner is doing an IG army I shall raid his bits box.

I have been looking into getting a airbrush for my vehicles and larger items, and right now I am trying to get to the store afew hours away to pick one up. I don't drive, my boy don't drive... so when I get the chance etcetc.

Until then, my vecicle painting is on hold. I decided that airbrushing might be better because I finally got my hands on a venom and MAN its one gorgeous model. So, I dont want to screw it up with my awkward hand-painting... because I suck at getting paint even for some reason. I can paint white, but I can't paint any other color. Go fig-nut.

In the meantime, I'll paint up some incubi and some other bits I have.

Looking really nice, some of the old school mini's are still pretty nice sculpts, its great to be seeing them used.

Thanks! I like the old raiders, they have character and such, and give me a chance to buy a new one and make it my dais as I have 4 OOP raiders.

I am quite an flippant personage, and so I am going to rethink my colour scheme and paint a quick model to test what I have in my head. Currently, I am unsure, but I like the idea of a white army with pink/purple/green/skin/bone bits.

Tester model coming soon, off to the reavers!

I got that spray gun today, and have been trying it out. So far, its been fun, but the gun itself is definitely more of a 'dust' coater and 'stencil' worker... but that is what I bought it for. I am definitely liking it, though, and might take my FLGSs advice and invest in a better one once I've got the hang of this cheap one.

In other news, the white is looking good! Ive just managed to get a nice covering on a raider, and will do the 3 reavers before I go to bed.

Pictures of my progress after shading and dusting tomorrow, then after that I get to postshade with the spray gun and work out some stencils for my Kabal symbols! Yay!

And here is my tester model! Wee! White is such a pain in the rear end to do! ACK!

Thank you for the compliment! I really love some of the old sculpts, and find it a shame that so many are just cast aside in favor of the new ones!





Here is a my new (and permanent) take on dark eldar pain tokens! Each one is set on a 1 penny, covered in thin plasticard, with a small magnet attached to it. Each one sticks to another, and so this will make keeping up with pain tokens easier for me whilst still being pretty! I must admit, though. They look somewhat graffiti styled, ha! The one closer to the camera goes on top of the other two, it has a skull on it, which you cant see as my diamond glaze hasnt quite dried on it! When they are dried, in the morning, I will stack them all up and take some better pictures.

A quick post before I go to bed, some Nurgle chaos space marines from my small collection of them...

PROCRASTINATION! Ack!

I'm sorry for not updating this sooner, but I appear to have lost the charger to my camera. :( I don't really want to have to take pictures of what I've been making/painting recently with my mobile phone, but I may have to just do it if I don't find the charger soon.

Anyway, this is just a quick update on what I've been planning...

I'm going to sculpt and make my own bases for my entire Dark Eldar army, including flyers. xD

I'm taking on a lot, I know I am, but I just feel that DE are worth it!

The white is looking awesome, can't wait to see the rest of the army. I hope you find your charger and get some pics up.

Thanks! I'm currently thinking about going down a gothic/gore/snow theme with the bases. Not 100% yet, but might as well theme it around what I have in my head for scenery.

So, it just occured to little old me that I am in way planned to be doing and finishing my DE. Instead I have taken to becoming very distracted, and acting like magpie whenever I pick up a different model from the one I'm working on at the time.

Haha, yeah. Not much, to be fair. I've been planning out a genestealer cult army recently, so my DE have been neglected. I've decided to show them some love until my orders for cult army arrive. =]

Here is a new model, painted today. I'll continue to do the whole squad (5) and post them up tomorrow, hopefully. xD This single model took me ages to do!



Also didn't notice all the flash whilst I was painting... don't ask me why. I don't know. I'll get all that off and touch up. And I'll work on that sword. Ick.

He looks ok, but too bright imo..... the others you did look darker, I liked that a lot more.... maybe put a light wash of brown on him?

I think you are right, I will take another look later. It's really is so hard to get white looking perfect.

My partner bought me a box of wwii germans from wargames factory for PDF/Imperial guard. I recieved them this morning, and have painted one to get my head around the theme I've chosen for comrades. It's looking alright so far, however the models themselves do look alittle small, and putting lasguns on them is out of the question. So I am trying to decide what to arm them with, leaning towards shotguns.

Here is a quick picture of what the wargames factory guys look like with las-type-and-sized-guns and on heavy weapon bases. My partner is doing IG with victrix naps, so he gave me some tips.

I'll be starting another blog here for these guys, I think. Just making plans and getting started.
