Been Around the Block

Hey guys,

Been thinking on how to make a mycetic spore for a long time. I'm not very good at building stuff with green stuff aso but when i saw a topic on here about how to make nice tyranid bases with pva glue and super glue I got an idea of finding an object shaped sem like an egg(except the bottom) and then use the pva all over that object. After that I would use a bit of green stuff to make small tentacles on it.

The problem I have is that I can't find a suitable item to use as a base for this project. Anyone got any good ideas?

Plasma hatcher eggs are generally cheap and easy to find. I got one at walmart for like $11

Actually got an idea now. I can take a plastic drinking bottle(pref a sturdy one) and cut off the top and a bit down(depending on how big i want it. I won't be able to get it to an egg shape properly but might be able to bend the botton inwards a bit and glue it stuck. I then add a thick layer of pva glue all over it and make some patterns with the super glue. Then I add tentacles with green stuff comming out of the top opening.

Guess this could work and would be really cheap to make.

Paper mache make a papermache around a balloon for a massive one a egg for a small/ medium one then use the green stuff and a flying base for like a valkyrie or gargoyle to make it fly.

The plastic ones (right) are by Megabloks and can be found in most toy stores even in Europe.
But I can recommend the ones by Treadheadz (left)

Other options: Puppet's War, Mr.Dandy, Mythicast, Chapterhouse Studio. The ones by Armorcast and Maxmini are a bit small.

I've got a couple of the Puppet's War ones. They can be a bit fiddly to put together if you want the sides to open, but they're fine if you just glue them shut, or if you like barnacles.

Well im not a nid player but i do know
Get an egg shape piece of styrofoam or make one
have the bottom flat
Cut the sides in to three and hollow it out
Now hing it to the bottom base and use a small latch or mettal pole with magnets to hold it up
Then like a drop pod have the sides go down and there could be a gaunt with green goo around (not removable)
then there is your spore pod

I have a couple of the Plasma Hatchers. They are pretty cheap on Amazon if you can get it. The size is perfect. They are easy to do up. You just cement it shut, put it on a base and paint it.

The creature inside is a bonus -- it can be used for RPGs or something like that.

If you can't find the Plasma Hatcher, there are various other Not-Spods on the market.

The other option as detailed by hoodedscar is to buy an expanded polystyrene egg -- they can be got at hobby and craft shops -- and detail it with Green Stuff, etc.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

The Mega Bloks Dragon Eggs work really well when painted. Not sure if you can get them in Sweden, but a friend of mine uses them and they work wonders.

If you want to build one by yourself, using a polystyrene egg seems the best solutions for me, as it is cheap and easy to find.
Then add bitz and whatever you want to give it interesting textures.

If buying one is not a problem for you, maxmini released this spore wich is imho one of the best looking ones today :

It is available here : http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=169

I tried to model ours in the correct size to hold what its supposed to be able to hold. Its large enough to appear to hold a carnifex, 20 gaunts, and a large amount of warriors. Not to mention its a nice fire magnet since your beasties can hide behind it once they are deployed.

Not to mention we priced this hefty Resin model lower then most of the commercial competition out there - $35.00, click here.

We can ship 3 of them for a pretty decent price since they fit in a Priority Mail flat rate box.

Did you guys even look at the prototype of that model before you put it into production?

Something about the exit seems off...
