well I was wondering because I was In this 40k battle that was HQ's only and was wondering who should win. POM is quite good but In a leader brawl there Is not enough enemys to spawn ripper reinforcements with. Hive tyrant whith aheavy venom cannon,LWhip & BSword, armoured shell and regen( most people say this is naff but I dont) = BEAST! I have never used any other HQ though so I was wondering what do you think is best!

For those whovians out there, I something planned.

Something big.

Ah, but no invulnerable save means that a hive tyrant on his own is likely to be shot to pieces by any army with decent heavy weapons. He is very tough in cc, especially with paroxysm which is great. For example a tank unloading its entire load into a hive tyrant will likely kill it or cripple it.

However, there are many, many stronger HQs. Obviously Kaldor Draigo would be high in the list, the Sanguinor, Mephiston, Grimnar, Lysander, any greater daemon, avatar, chaos lords, DE archon, the new Necron lords, these are just the few that come to mind. IIRC all these have some kind of invulnerable save.

If we're talking striaght 1v1 hq battle them I'm saying Swarmlord.

If we're talking for a regular 40K game I think Company Command Squads.

Hmmmmm I am just trying out POM but apparently for 1 squad (asume it is a HQ with bodyguards) could make up to 19 ripper reinforcements. wish me luck when using him or even better him + my heavy tyrant.

out to cause some chaos.

Hq vs Hq? Catellan Crowe. Yes he is a liability in army play, but was made to win in hq vs hq. Rapier strike means he goes first. 8 Ws is pretty mean, and blade shield if you want to be defensive. If all else fails and he goes down, it still isn't over, heroic sacrifice means he can still get a tie.

If we're talking about best UNITS, then I'd say a guard CCS squad with straken, nork, and all the advisers. A marine with an at-initiative initiative eviscerator with furious charge and fearless attached to 9 ablative wounds and a super-ogryn in a squad that can have 4, twin-linked plasma guns (or 4 twin-linked melta, or 2 twin-linked something and a twin-linked lascannon or other heavy weapon).

Imperial Guard CCS for sure. They can pack a tonne of firepower, can be given a myriad of equipment/characters that support your entire army while debilitating your enemy's, and then can use orders in game to further support your army. You'd be hard pressed to find any unit in the game that does so much.

My vote would go to the Farseer.

Possibly the best support HQs in the game, their variety of powers can improve any Eldar force twofold.

And they can add Creed for hilarious outflanking and ridiculous orders range.

The Haemonculi are great for giving your squad an extra bit of toughness (and crazy firepower at points), and for a low cost as well. However, in terms of shere strength as an HQ, my vote would most likely go to ghazzy or kharne.

As well as regimental advisors giving +1 to reserve rolls and re-rolling scout, and -1 reserves to enemy, then add 4 BS4 plasma guns.
CCS is versitile and powerful, I'd vote for them.

Yes, but a LOT of people here seem to be missing the OP's point. This isn't a thread about "best HQ in general", it's "best HQ in a one-on-one fight".

The fact that ghaz gives waaugh, and that guard advisers give meta buffs doesn't mean much here.

Well, Ghaz's Waaagh! gives him a 2++ save, so it kinda does matter.

I don't think there's a lot of HQs in the game that can take Ghaz 1 on 1 in CC if he puts up his Waagh!. The only ones I can think of are Brotherhood Champions and Crowe, and it's kinda a Pyrrhic Victory.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

Swarmlord is pretty dang good if your talking cc since with his guard can just maul folks. Ah your ws 1 too bad AND reroll your passed saves so even guys like Abaddon, Draigo etc can eat it. Mephsiton is sol vs him. Overall its hard to say since they things like farseer are superb along with many others but with my recent run ins with swarmie I have to give him a nod for just mean ass hq.

The enemy of my enemy is a bastard so lets kill him too.
