I'm looking for some really nice mini's to collect and paint.
Not play the game, i'm more about painting than gaming anyway.

I've looked at several ranges, and mostly sites have comments on the paintjob (and rightly so).
But haven't found any good lists of the most epic mini sculpts.

Also, and i dread typing this i'd rather not know about any GW mini's.
Why? i've worked in retail for 12 years and am 'in' on any salesman trick.
In and also immune, i can't blame someone trying to do their job as they were trained/told to do.
But after the time they tried to drill the last WD issue into me i was done with it.
Nigh on every other store i go to and politely tell the staff i know sales techniques and i'd rather just be served and on my way it's no problem.

Thought i'd offer some explanation instead of appearing like a raging fanboy.

Anything from Studio McVey.

He is the sculpting god.

Also, Ulraforge is a good one as well.

Privateer Press has some nice miniatures. So does Reaper. There are a couple other's like hasslefree and sodapop. It all depends on what your looking for. There is also malifaux or heavy gear gear blitz. Look these up and tell us what you think.

Studio McVey's miniatures aren't sculpted by Mike McVey. They're done by a whole bunch of freelance sculptors.

Infinity. I really like the more sci fi paramilitary looking models but the range is vast and most can find something to like.

The Tombstone range from Black Scorpion are *reeeeally* nice. If ya like cowboys and so forth. The civillians, especially the bartender are very cool.

Some of the Carnevale miniatures are stunning and are crying out for a decent paintjob, in particular the Harlequin and Capodecime.

I'd recommend Hasslefree if your just looking for some fun mini's to paint, their models have alot of character and are fairly cheap. the owner Kev has also done a few sculpts for Mcvey so you may notice his work.

Also Red box games is another company with great products, they have some awesome fantasy sculpts that i see all the time in dioramas over on CMON.

Im surprised no one has mentioned Rackham, whose metal mini's you can pick up pretty cheaply on ebay or wait for Coolminiornot.com to rerelease them. They had some of the most detailed sculpts I have ever seen.

Also, Avatars of War has some extremely nice minis.

The only problem is the painting is so great that when you get the mini & look at the picts again, you go 'Holy carp! I'm never going to do this justice'...

I want to thank everyone who replied and shared their opinions and mini related knowledge with me.
This topic will stay a reference guide for me when i'm looking for new stuff.

My personal opinion is that from a painting perspective the best value for money at the moment are the classic rackham models.
They can be bought dirt cheap and are not beaten by anything less then high end, high price mini's.

I got this one for 10 euro's with mini shipping included!.
(not painted by me, just a reference).
http://www.coolminiornot.com/146253?browseid=476303

Cmon is rerelasing many of them at considerably higher prices.

Well thanks again and all the best DD!.
