hey everyone,

ive painted mostly all the sm chapters, but i never went near imperial fists dunno why never fancied them, until i looked at some terminators on the gallery here and i thought im gonna have to start my own army of if's, i had a contemptor what i got for christmas and i was gonna do it ultramarine, but ive decided i wanna start imperial fists, im gonna try make my own kind of yellow so watch out for the models to come.

Anyway i read up on painting imperial fists because i know through experience yellow is horrible to use, and all i got were countless pages with people saying to undercoat them white, or to by a yellow primer spray, and it never appealed to me, ive always built up from a sprayed chaos black base, so finally ive thought im gonna go for it regardless and just ensure my coats are ultra thin, but i came across some useful information that i didn't previously know... if you mix in purple with yellow you get a dark yellow brown, so ive gone ahead, ive used browns as an undercoat in very very thin layers, and then gone to yellow with purple to gradually get lighter... and hey guess what its working a treat!!! and the paint because im laying it o thin it doesn't look thick at all and i stil have all the detail, yeah its mega hard work but i want a good lookin if army.

right to start off heres a little glimpse of my contemptor in progress, i may edit the title of this thread and include progress of my whole army, hopefully i wil be converting a reaver titan in the near future and making it look sik and adding it to the army, enough talkin here the glimpse, be sure to check back on this thread as it shouldn't be too slow progressing fingers crossed.

How many coats did it take to get yellow to black? And you could have used that gw foundation paint as it cover quite nicely over black. Looks nice though even with the black base.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

cheers people not had much done done a bit gonna do loads tonight been workin yesterday and today, should have an update ready for tomoro. and i got the yellow through the black by using very thin coats of brown, then i mixed liche purple with sunburst yellow, mixing it ultra thin, and slowly putting less liche purple into the mix, it took AGES to get to where the body is on that picture, but im determined to make a imperial fist army with a black base spray, people say it wont work and it will look to thick and crappy, but im gonna prove all that wrong, dont care about the hard work.

Good luck to you, but I think the yellow is already looking blotchy and a little too pastel. If you are insistent on doing this over black base coat I would recommend looking into using oil based paints.

Oil based ? piffft no - dont be silly
Keep the layers thin and reapply as you go, esp if your going the route of battle damage and wear

What is wrong with oil paints?

Nothing as long as you have protected the baselayers. but I know most people dont and it will eat it alive.. as for wetblending and rust and damage effects I find oil the best - but when you have already done what the Op has taken so far its a bit of a bind to seal it and go over with oils.

Would not be a bind at all, in fact I think a light coat of Cadmium Yellow would do quite a bit to make the color more saturated and less pastel, and would also do a lot to even out the coat and appearance.
