i was thinking about doing up a Chaos Space Marine Rhino and Land raider up in almost US army paint style... and then painting "Never forget" and "Have you forgotten" and other inspirational saying on it.. along with a picture of two Choas towers with burning holes blown in them...

Show maybe the fact that the Space Wolves were doing Chaos' bidding and not the Emperors bidding in the Horus Heresy. Of course it was the Emperor's pride of thinking he knew everything that caused the Horus Heresy and caused the Empire to fall to a level were it could no longer go unchallenged in the universe.

Drop the towers and you're probably fine. Obviously you can paint whatever you want on your own models in your own home. Equally obviously, when you're out in public in a store or other venue and other people see your models, they may judge you, avoid or condemn you (and/or ask you to leave their store) if you display offensive or inappropriate images on your models, including ones which seem to deman or trivialize real-world tragedies or atrocities.

You'd be risking critisism pretty much every time you got your army out.

Is it bad taste to do so? Questionable

Will you end up getting told it was bad taste by those who think so? Occasionally, and likely in an abrasive and possible not uncalled for way.

At the end of the day this may well make your army the cause of a good few arguments when all you want is a civil game

TBH It doesn't bother me too much. However it doesn't seem like what you are planning on doing with it is worth the possible outcry from those who won't like it.

To put it bluntly it sounds like/will look like you are doing it to get a reaction.

nude goddess will even be fine, it will be "art" but if its something that resebles the twin towers then it will be critised.

I would also be weary of any veterans of recent desert wars being in/around the places you game. Ditto for anyone who had a relative in the towers...you might find yourself in some real life CC.

Yeah, definitely, if you keep the towers...

I don't understand what you're trying to accomplish though. What emotion do you want t convey with your work? Regret? Dismay?

The reason you give seems preposterous. Neither the camouflage or the towers have anything to do with Tzeentch manipulating the space wolves to drive the thousand sons to workship chaos.

No more tacky than the red white and blue space marine armies that have American flags all over them. Oddly enough for all of them that I have seen none of them have been painted very well. Red white and blue are a hard scheme to do good together without looking just wrong. I don't think most people will care or even notice what your going for with it all unless you explain it. I just think it's a bad theme for an army. Just tacky and booring let alone ugly. But note that I could easily be wrong and you could come out with a fantastic chaos army that's got never forget and Have you forgotten all over it. Personally I dont really see this being a chaos thing.
I see being more of an imperum of man theme. Guards or sisters, maybe marines or even grey knights but not chaos. Chaos. Chaos seems more to me like, oh they killed 2 of our towers with a tatic that we mostlikly would use ourselves. Lets go pillage whole planets of theirs.
Just my two cents.

If your going to paint the towers, don't make them look like THE twin towers, I have no problems with it, I think it becomes tacky when you include the American colors/paint scheme... Keep the ideas seperate... That is if you wish to avoid the aforementioned real life CC

I dunno.... Abby's still pretty pissed off about the whole "Daddy's dead" thing. And for 10,000 years at that. Black Legion do the whole, "Let's memorialize our defining tragedy" thing pretty well.
Plus I don't think the Imperium would shy away from doing something like that either...

I'm not usually one to speak out against other people's ideas, but come on. You know very well you're just trying to get a reaction, both here on the forum by asking, and on the gaming table.

It's probably not going to terribly offend most of the internet-saturated culture that plays these games, especially the younger crowd, but you're probably not going to be remembered for your game plan, or your painting skills, or your personality and good looks. No, instead when people refer to you in conversation they'll call you "that person with the 9/11 Rhinos."

Is that the image you want for yourself? There are probably a thousand other ways you can add something flashy and unique to your army without slipping out of the immersion into real-world edgy issues.

In short, people will assume you're dumb.

It might look cool, it might provoke thought, but it is a crude way of doing so.
Had a friend that made a Nazi-ish IG army, yeah looked cool. But it was crude, and he got kicked out of tournaments a lot.

Probably work

First off, you'd have to consult the Bradford Exchange. Generating tasteless crap designed to illicit an emotional response by means of painting something unrelated on something else is sort of their thing. They might have it patented. Seriously, they'd do that.

Even then, you'd only be able to get away with it if you had a predator that was painted with the glorious face of Dale Earnhardt Jr. on it, and probably you'd also need a defiler decked out in a Thomas Kincade mural wielding limited edition centennial coins stamped with hollow Americana by a mint in China.

(In case you were unsure, the above is a reply to your question. The answer is "No.")

QFT. I'll say it plainly: this is a bad, tasteless idea. Doing it will likely ruin your reputation and could even see you thrown out of some stores. Don't do it.

I think it kinda is. If you want to pay tribute to 911 victims do something like donate or lobby to help first-responders who are being shafted by the medical companies.

Yeah the idea that Tzeentch the great manipulator using the blind unthinking rage of the space puppies to attack the Thousand sons after their Primarh tried to stop the Horus Heresy buy letting the Emperor know of Horus' betrayal before hand, but in the Emperor's blind pride how Horus was not only able to start his Heresy but use the Loyal Space puppies to drive the Thousand Sons to Chaos for protection from the Empire the Thousand Sons tried to protect.

Well was know as the guy who had the cheesy armies that didn't give much chance for other armies to win... I mean I use to have a Hand to Hand Tzeentch Chaos space marine army before the last codex came out. OF course that was back when I had a unit of chosen sorcerers On chaos Bikes all with winds of Chaos and force weapons.move in flame 4+ to cause wounds with flames then charge into hand to hand with force weapons, of course also had Bolt of Tzeentch to try to scratch tanks, but that was before the newest Chaos Space Marine codex really pimped slapped Chaos.

Funny the Nazi symbol was used in ancient times, it was a ancient religions symbol... Remember Hitler tried using the Church as reasoning for why he was doing WW2, it was another crusade, just a crusade to avenge Christ not to get holy land or holy artifacts.

The idea is to show how the feeling that drove the Thousand sons into the arms of Chaos was the same feeling that drove the USA into the middle east starting war on terror invading Iraq and Afghanistan.
