Here's a Brass Scorpion that I did for a commission a little while ago. I really enjoyed doing all kinds of crazy freehand and filling those panels. Filling them with grotesque images that would please Khorne was really quite a bit of fun, and worked well with the theme that the mini already has going for it.

Anyway, here he is, with a slew of detail shots.

Also, I've posted him up on CMON for anyone who cares to vote.

I just tried to freehand a couple of triangle on my Razorback, and they suck, so I am extremely jealous at the moment, great work

As awesome as the freehand is, I have to say that my favorite part(s) are the metal bits. That's a great job on the patina/weathered bronze effect.

Very nice freehand work. Have you ever done freehanding to this extent on other models? I quite like the idea of gothic and Renaissance style paintings on the sides of Imperial tanks. (Granted, it's been done before, but I still like it.) I love your model here, though. It has a very nice feel to it that I think adds artistry to the model without detracting from it's intended purpose.

Love it!
The little bits of blood and the eye is really good... those skulls would have taken FOREVER!!

Quick question, did you have to make the base or is that something that you can buy?

This is way too cool. I can barely freehand a single banner symbol let a lone a whole damn mural of skulls and death. This is truly impressive!

Thanks.

I made the base out of a clock that I got from Wal-Mart. You break the clock apart and have two massive lipped bases.

I painted up an old Armorcast Warhound Titan for a different client. Pretty different vision of the whole thing, but that's the closest I've done to this much freehand on a single piece.

Col. Kurtz wrote:You, sir, have entirely too much time on your hands and entirely too much talent for your own good.

Erm... this was a project for a client. Which means that when other people go to the office in the morning, I got up and painted skulls on the side of a brass scorpion.

Yeah, I love my job.

I really want to like it, but i cant shake the feeling of ...
you were going for the FW look with the gray lines.
Then it messed up and you went back to it and draw on the skulls with a pen to turn them into skulls.
Then it looks like something out of a comic page >.<

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

One of the best things I have ever seen. All I can say.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

Well, I wasn't going for the look of Forge World's studio mini at all. I didn't even use it as a reference. When I started painting the skulls, it was with the intention of finishing them as skulls, not as glossy spots.

Actually, Forge World's paintjob would have taken me a lot less time than this one did.
