Hey Guys,

I'm returning to 40k after a long absence from the game but I've noticed there's so many decent mini's around now but I especially like the dreadknights and wanted to know if there would be a problem incorporating them into another army!? still Space Marines of course.

any views would be appreciated.

Space Marines could make a count as Venerable Dreadnought. The model wouldn't be able to hide behind rhinos. I saw one last year with a Thunder Hammer and Battle Cannon.

I'm celebrating 8 years on Dakka Dakka!

Depends on what you mean by incorporate. If you mean "Counts As" Dreadnought, i think it's very doable, if you want to spend more money for a bigger target. Not many people I know would say no to that.

If you want to use the same rules as in the GK codex, however, that'd probably end up a no.

well, i'm going to build up a sons of medusa army and as much as I like the regular dreads I just think the dreadknights look amazing! I may do some conversion work so that its not just a paint job thats different.

So you are going to do a Codex: Space Marine army painted as Sons of Medusa and you would like to use the Dreadknight model as an (Venerable) Dreadnought?

PS. See how you can write what you mean instead of assuming that we can mind-read?

Shouldn't be a problem, then, just as long as you tell your opponent in the beginning that this funky looking thing in the corner is a Venerable.

You should base it on a dreadnought base .

See, that is of no help at all.

Do you mean you would like to use the Dreadknight MODEL or you would like to use the Dreadknight RULES?

You could always attempt a kitbash of the Vendread and a Dreadknight...which if done correctly, would be pretty damned cool.

Although I'm positive it wouldn't be allowed in any sort of tourney setting. Those guys get uppity when you start proxying/counting as stuff like that.

If he says the Dreadknight looks amazing, maaaaybe we could safely infer that he's not interested in the rules.

Anyhow. If you are starting up new, think about just playing Grey Knights. Dreadknights are a big draw you say. Two of those with gear, and a mean HQ is already have a small army already. Buy some Grey Knight troops and start doing the Emperor's work.

If cool is just what you are going for then you might consider Contemptor dreadnoughts from Forge World instead of the Dreadknight.

There would be almost 0 issues with them being "Counts As" and you might be able to use the Contemptor's actual rules from time to time.

Problem: Contemptor isn't cool. Dreadknight is.

Not every shadow, but any shadow

It is heresy to defile the glory of a Dreadknight ! You regular Space Marines do not have the purity required !

But seriously, I agree how cool they are, hence my choice of armies but you might find that some organisers won't let you use it.

The tournies I play in the guys are pretty strict with that sort of stuff. Scathbuilding is OK particularly when there aren't models for character but proxies are really closely regulated.

I for one don't like proxies at all. I mean if your playing someone who is supposed to be fielding a Dreadnaught with Twin AC and a Dread CCW and you are looking a a model that has a whacking big Great Sword, a Gatlling Psilenser it does put me off a bit.

Trust me tho' the regular Dread can be just as cool, just have a think about a real stand out paint job.

While I don't think that the Dreadknight model is an awesome model, the "Hi-am-a-kettle-with-legs" is certainly not impressive either.
