I was curious if all chapters of SM get along or have ever come to blows, rivalry or plain ol don't like each other for whatever reason

Many chapters have come to blows with each other.
Some get along very well.
Others detest each other and will only work together when there is no other oportunity...
It's a mixed bag...

Yup

Why do you think everyone winds up playing Marine VS Marine

Some of the chapters have long-held grudges here and there.

The DA and BA didn't used to get along too well IIRC. I have no idea whether they ever patched that up/retconned it, but the DA used to be a bit unpleasant to other chapters they thought were being dubious.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

Dark Angels and Space Wolves don't care much for each other. I would also think that the Black Templars don't like the Blood Ravens due to the high amount of Psykers.

Marines Malevolent and Salamanders have had conflicts in the 3rd War of Armageddon. Dark Angels and Space Wolves had a fued coming back to the Horrus Heresy. Space Wolves also don't like the Ultra Marines and Grey Knights much. I don't think the Iron Hands care for many others Chapter or like them much.

Sometimes whole Chapters can get caught up in feuds or misunderstandings, involving Chapter on Chapter conflict, even between loyalist groups. (See the Badab War as a good example.)

The Badab War books by Forge World are really good info on this, and the general complexity of politics between Marine chapters.

Essentially, the Astral Claws try to break from the Imperium. They are supported by a mixture of

- Chapters who agree with them
- Chapters who think the Claws been treated illegally and side with them.
- Chapters who owed a great debt to the Claws.

A task force is then assembled of other chapters, who all have their own political reasons.

- Some of them don't like the Astral Claws.
- Some of them don't like another Chapter on the Astral Claws side.
- Some of them have no opinion and are just following orders.

As the war drags on, some of the Loyalist Chapters are so disgusted by the methods or command style of other Loyalists that they leave the crusade. On the other hand, even more hated or 'extreme' Loyalist chapters are brought in - some of which are, while Loyal, extremely vicious, or have a bad reputation.

Pretty complicated, really....

Crusade of the Ophidium Gulf is probably a "typcial" story of Chapter vs. Chapter (in this case Black Templar vs. Dark Angels). It doesn't quite explicitly mention the Dark Angels annihilating the Templars. However, it is strongly implied.

More explicit examples are, among others, Space Wolves vs. Flesh Tearers in the battle know as "Honor's End":

Is that something which has specifically been stated in a canonical source, or just an inference based on the Wolves not adhering to the Codex and antagonising the Inquisition after the First Armageddon War?

Yeah, that sounds more like inference to me. It's well known that the Wolves have had problems with the inquisition in general before, though I don't recall any specific incidents that would indicate they disliked the Grey Knights in particular.
Nor do they have any problems with the Boys In Blue, as I recall, they just follow their own Primarch's teachings.

Marines Malevolent don't get along well with a lot of chapters who value human life (ie. Salamanders)

I'm sure I've read in the Imperial armour books that the Red Scorpions massively distrust any chapter whose geneseed has become either impure or has changed/mutated from the ideal as first perfected by the Emperor. In particular the Blood Angels and Space Wolves.

I can't find the reference at the moment, although I could be wishfully thinking and therefore making it all up.

The black templars can view any space marine chapter with distrust. During the battle for helsreach the Templars came to start hating the Salamanders because while the Templars fought the Orks the Salamanders would withdraw to protect the civilian bunkers that the orks were targeting.

Its kinda like family politics.

They may fight and come to blows, but in the end they are still brothers especially when it comes to the Inquisition or other Imperial authorities. Bros look after each other.

The DAs and SWs have a long standing fued tracing back to their primarchs, but they will still help each other in a time of need.

I'm sure that as a general rule of thumb, Chapters will be able to work together even if they do not like each other.

There are various book that showcase this, the ones that comes to minds are the ultramarine book, with the mortifactor, and the second blood angel books with there different successor chapters.

I don't think making a chapter of marines from Fleshtearers and Salamanders would end very well. If I want added fun I throw in Black Templars, Dark Angels, Blood Ravens and Space Wolves.

Wow can someone please make such a chapter? That would be more fun to watch than watching wrestling even.

Ah, you don't 'make a Chapter' by throwing together Marines from a random selection of other Chapters. The background doesn't work that way.

Well, not really. In one of the Ragnar novels, the DA assault a planet hiding a Fallen. Problem is, its a SW protectorate world, and they have some guys on the ground. The two SM ships in orbit begin duking it out until a chaos warship shows up, and the mangled DA scamper off. They do come back and surprise attack the chaos ship and save the day though, the pricks.

Thats different. When a Fallen is concerned the DA hate every one. But under normal circumstances the legions like each other in a respect sort of way, the Lion and Russ became good friends after their scuffle

In 1ed there were certainly rivalries, and some chapters that considered themselves more orthodox than others. Red scorpions, IIRC, had real problems with other chapters that were not as "by the book."

Also, of course, there are always those chapters that are being subverted by Chaos, who start to change the rules, and might pick a fight with other chapters.

Marine chapters were also originally seen as independent feudal lordships, who might get into fights with each other over who owned which planet.

SW and DA have a ritual battle with one another before they team up to kick xeno butt, this is a tradition dating back to the Great Crusade when their Primarchs had a punch up.
