Subject: Kharn the Betrayer, Grey Knights, Blessing of the Blood God and Psychic Immunity.

Chaos Space Marine Codex - Kharn the Betrayer and Blessing of the Blood God (verbatim): Kharn is immune to the effects of psychic powers, and force weapons count as normal power weapons against him.
Here is where I need help. My friend is starting his Grey Knight army, and I have been forced to bench my HQ Daemon Prince, because after perusing through the GK codex, putting a daemon up against the GK is just stupid. I have therefore decided to go with Kharn for his nice low point cost (Abby will come later in larger battles).
My question is, what are the boundries of Kharn's immunity? Is it purely defensive, or does his immunity to psychic abilities extend to his assault on others? (my primary concern).
For example:
Would Kharn be immune to sanctuary? Would he just assault as normal on a GK unit?
Obviously a GK unit who uses Hammerhand get's their bonus against a regular 'zerker, but if it was Kharn and a retinue of 'zerkers, is the Hammerhand ability nullified against Kharn specific rolls?
I'm not concerned with the psychic shooting attacks, because in my opinion, it is obvious that Kharn would be immune to them. Just an opinion of course.
Please tell me what your experiences have been, both from chaos players and GK players, because I know these things will come up when I try to tell my friend "That psychic ability will not work on Kharn" ..."Oh yes it will!" ...that sort of thing.

RAW would lead me to beleive that psychic tests that effect him, for example sanctuary, cleansing flmae etc. he would be immune from but those that buff the Gk units like Might of Titan quicksilver etc. would still have their benefits when attacks are being directed against Kharn

Please note that the following is from INAT and cannot be used to support RAW. However, my group has taken to using INAT for some of the more odd questions that have come up.
Per INAT the following do not affect Kharn (or any other unit that is immune to psychio powers)
• General: A Force Weapon’s ‘Instant Death’ ability.
• Blood Angels: Blood Boil, Blood Lance, Fear of the Darkness, Shackle Soul, Smite.
• Chaos Space Marines: Bolt of Change, Doombolt, Gift of Chaos, Lash of Submission, Nurgle’s Rot, Wind of Chaos.
• Dark Angels: Hellfire, Mind Worm.
• Dark Eldar: Veil of Tears
• Eldar: Destructor, Doom, Eldritch Storm, Mind War, Veil of Tears.
• Grey Knights: Cleansing Flame, Heroic Sacrifice, Holocaust, a Nemesis Force Weapon’s ‘Instant Death’ ability, Psychic Barrage, Sanctified Flame, Sanctuary, Smite, Vortex of Doom, Warp Quake, Warp Rift, Zone of Banishment.
• Imperial Guard: Lightning Arc, Nightshroud, Soulstorm, Weaken Resolve.
• Orks: Frazzle, Zogwort’s Curse, Zzap.
• Space Marines: The Avenger, Null Zone, Smite, Vortex of Doom.
• Space Wolves: Fury of the Wolf Spirits, Jaws of the World Wolf, Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane, Tempest’s Wrath, Thunderclap.
• Tyranids: Aura of Despair, Cataclysm, The Horror, Hypnotic Gaze, Leech Essence, Paroxysm, Psychic Scream, Shadow in the Warp, Warp Blast, Warp Lance.
* Please note Kharn cannot be affected by any friendly psychic powers as well.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Wow... that is quite a comprehensive list!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Here is another one to ponder... When using a psychic template, is the template allowed to cover Kharn and his retinue and just not affect him, or must the psyker place the template in such a fashion so that no part is touching Kharn?

Since you must cover as many of the models as possible with the template, yes you can and sometimes have to place over kharn, only thing is, while it counts as a hit, it doesn't effect him, so no dice is rolled for that one hit.

See my original post regarding the INAT FAQ,. The following are from there, take it as you will: INAT FAQ wrote:CSM.48C.02 – Q: If Kharn is part of a unit that is hit by a psychic shooting attack can wounds be allocated to him (using the normal allocation rules for shooting) that he then ignores? A: Yes [RAW]. INAT FAQ wrote:CSM.48C.07 – Q: Are Grey Knight Nemesis Force Weapons just treated as power weapons when attacking Kharn? A: No, only their ability to inflict ‘Instant Death’ is ignored [clarification].

it is interesting. As I read it. If the unit suffers 3 hits, one of them from Kharn. you then allocate. You could allocate the 3 to non Kharn models and take saves as normal. or you could allocate one to Kharn and then he is immune.
DE Lady Malys is easier. She and the unit she is with are immune. Automatically Appended Next Post: Happyjew wrote:See my original post regarding the INAT FAQ,. The following are from there, take it as you will:

A: Yes [RAW].
yup that is how I would have read it. Therefore if a CSM used Bolt of Change on Kharn's unit the hit could just be allocated to him and then ignored.
