I think he means most money you've poured into putting together a single model-which should usually be a converted one (unless you bought Azhag the Slaughterer or Bloodknights).

I have a model containing bits and pieces from an Avatar of Khaine, the Space Marine Commander, an old metal Legion of the Damned fig, and an out of print metal Veteran. The reason I asked is that all together they models I sacrificed to make him would cost nearly seventy bucks. I, however, didn't pay a nickel for any of them. (Actually, I bought the LoD model as part of a used lot, but if you break it down, I only ended up paying a buck fifty for him.) Single model?
But what I actually paid for? Telion. Surprisingly, I wound up paying much more than you think. Since I wanted to run him as a Salamander, I had to eliminate those giant Ultramarine logos from him. To that end I wound up paying for a set of files, two huge tubes of greenstuff, and a knock-off Dremel. So, all totaled, he cost me around $67, if you include the tools I had to buy just for him.

If vehicles count, an Exorcist for $100, I have yet to buy the resin plates to put on the sides of it instead of the usual rhino doors.
If not I think maybe the current KoS conversion I'm working on. Base model was only $35 though, but I'd say at maximum with bits maybe $40-45ish. When I do conversions they generally don't turn out all that expensive. Come to think of it they usually all end up around that area for some reason, though usually in the $20-35 range.

Probably a painted Rogue Trader Beastman leader. I think I paid $25 + $3 shipping.
I can't really figure up the costs of my conversions cause I've only ever purpose ordered bits for a model(a metal DA dreadnought with Bjorn's claws) and I didn't pay for it. Plus, hell if I remember how much each of the parts for that dread cost back in '99.
The rest of my conversions used parts I already owned in my bitz.

I have a metal Abaddon the Despoiler that I converted from an obliterator body and shoulderpads, Abaddon's head and sword, and the arms from Witch-hunter Tyrus from the Inquisitor range. I didn't have any greenstuff skills then other than patching, so his tabard is cut from a Orc fantasy banner. I can't claim any huge costs, though, as this was back in the BITZ days, so I didn't have to buy complete models for the pieces.
He's wonderfully large compared to Chaos Terminators (I also converted him when all Chaos terms were the old metal ones), and with all the spikes and individual plastic skulls and helmets I dug up from all over, he's over 30 seperate pieces.

I formally built a 10 man Iron Warriors Chaos Possessed squad using..
Rank and file: Fabius Bile Back Packs x9
Champion: Back Pack Servo Arm x1
10 Iron Hand Space Marine Legs, Torso's
Multiple Pit Fighter Arms for saws, drills, etc
Iron Warrior Metals heads, shoulder pads.
This unit was built probably in 2002-2003. It took me a year to order, assemble, pin them together. Some of the parts ended up being gifts. I'd estimate about $30 a model, coming out to around $250-300 as some of the parts were gifts / bought on sale / ebay'd off other auctions just to strip the parts.
That squad never lived up to the hype. It looked sweet, won a few conversion contests. It then got sold along with my 2nd Iron Warrior Army. Go figure... in 2009 I rebuilt my Chaos SM, I didn't not rebuild the Possessed squad. It did look really sweet though, and thankfully was in the day you could chose what gifts to give to your unit, so I didn't feel shafted... just they under preformed.

Going by retail prices, probably this guy: Not sure how to price the model as a whole...the head was the only bit I purchased specifically for this model (at $6). Otherwise, the Deceiver body was "free" (came with a deformed face, GW sent a full kit as replacement), while the Seeker claw, SoM Sorcerer's sword/shoulder pads, and Scourge wings were all left-over bits I had kicking around.

The most expensive I own is probably a 1991 Gamesday Marine Captain. Lovely model, will probably paint it up as an Imperial Fist one day. Going rate on ebay is about £50 these days.
More recently, probably the 25th Anniversary Captain (£20). Lots of trouble on that, though.

Big stuff.
1. Sisters Stormhammer conversion was about £110.
2. Inq Land raider Prometheus with spaced armour and doors £80
3. Sisters Stormraven conversion £65 ish.
Single minis, never really gone too crazy on them probably £16 (a few years ago now) on a celestine conversion and back when you could order individual bits £20 putting Archaon's body on Abbadon's legs, seemed sensible at the time.

WOW. I have my Omega Supreme with the decodes slip, instructions and full piece working with stickers C8, and I paid $100 for it several years back. he is sitting in packing foam right now waiting for his next display case (we just moved)
Warhammer, I made a Grey Knight Grand Master ( gen 1 GK's all pewter) using a Librarian model, GK head, GK termie arms, iron halo bit, Necron gauss rod sprue, and made the nemesis blade from a scythe and the Librarian scroll.
All in all, he cost me about $40 at the time. its about to get broken down and repainted as well, possibly updated.

$110 AUD for my Monolith (for the vehicles), so I win there )well technically lose) I guess for a base model (when I still paid AU prices).
Nightbringer for single model, $62. Although I fear I have lost an arm for him somehow so I may have to sculpt another (think a dog ate it but I never knew he touched my stuff before today).
Thankfully I order from overseas now so they'd be 50% or less (I don't mind buying used as long as the model is fixable with stripping paint and GS).
