Hi everyone. For a while I have been doing my Grey knight bases the traditional sand and grass, but after going to GW for a while and seeing everyone else have that i want to do something more unique to the army. The only problem is that i don't want to draw attintion away from the grey knights, but i want the bases to add to the story that theis guys are totally awsome. any ideas?

I'm currently deciding myself. I've gone for these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150666753547?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_500wt_1413

But I'm actually debating whether or not to drill into the feet of my guys (seeing as my army only has 13 guys) and using magnets for my bases. The problem I have is that the terrain and boards I will be playing on will never match the more showcase and enjoyable bases that I would like to have my GK on so instead I was planning to use magnets on the feet so I can swap between a basic flock base and something a bit more showcasey, might be something you want to consider too!

That's a great idea, now if i put something on the base like a ruined floor section from GW ruined building sets would the magnet still be stong enough to hold it through all that plastic or would i have to make a small insert for it?
Also were would you buy magnets small enough for this job?

Not every shadow, but any shadow

I'd be getting a 25mm RE magnet to put under the base, plenty of suppliers on eBay.

An RE of that size shouldn't have any worries working through a bit of base, to attract the little ones in the feet of your guy.

Just remember to check the polarities on any models who aren't jump infantry !

Or you could do a pattern on a disk of metal and use the magnet to hold both it and the guy on
Here is what I am thinking for my guys, I am looking to ,make a decal that fits directly over the base :

That is a good idea about geting a larger magnet for the base.

That is a great looking base idea. If you don't mind me asking how do you plan to make the symbol in the rocks?

I like lava terrain, scorched terrain, or chaosy changed terrain...

Normally, GK would act when Demonic invasions got really bad, so i think their terrain should reflect it, and be similar to terrain we normally find on demonic invasions...

I'm going to make a decal mate, just use Photoshop techniques to give it some depth. I'll also leave the base a little rough, like the standard GW bases which I'm hoping will add a little texture

i have no idea how to do that. sounds smart tho. I was thinking about getting clear plastic bases etching the grey knight symbol, in it putinf some sound and rocks around it, and put a small led red light under the base so it glows up on the figure

That sounds cool, a suggestion tho' maybe use a blue light? The whole nemisis/psyker thing, generally the colours are blue.

You can make decals really easily by using special paper for an ink jet printer. Just print out your design, let it dry and away you go just like a bought one.

Have a look at theses guys, they have both LED's and Decal paper.

Anyone know if these magnets would work well enough? Or have any links for a place for decent modelling magnets? Don't mean to hijack thread but it might be helpful ;D

Pretty much any rare earth magnet is going to be plenty strong enough, some of the larger ones come with safety warnings that they can take your finger off if you aren't careful.

Oh ok, ninja post, yes those magnets are fine, neodymium are the ones you want.
