Marbo is great for his points ive had him in my armies several times, if only you can keep him in cover because he dies quickly otherwise, thats the problem i have anyway.

Im not too sure who i think is the best character but i like iron hand straken he is great i think.

Creed may not be a beast in combat, but his ability to scout a singe unit and issue twice the number of orders at twice the range of a stand officer has a profound, army wide effect. And he is not an Independent Character, so he has the command squad as a buffer against attacks. I try to run Creed in almost every 1250pts+ IG list I run, and he has never let me down.

Yarrick seems like he'd be pretty badass, at least on paper. Though, I've never used him.

Best at what?

Draigo is a beatstick with grand strategy. Swarmlord may be better at breaking heads. Calgar allows your troops to hold.the line better.

Njal provides some powerful anti-magic. Eldrad provides powerful magic. Imperial Guard characters provide real benefits to their army.

So again I say, best at what?

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

I find passive aggressive messages in people's signatures quite amusing.

Abbaddon is pretty sweet, but unlike other god-hammer characters he doesn't come with any nifty army wide special rules that make everyone else better, or scoring.

I love the yellow beatstick that is Lysander.

See, Lysander always makes me cry. Either I stick him in a ranged unit (so they can use his Bolter Drill) and he sits around twiddling his thumbs, or I put him with a group of melee guys, and the Bolter Drill goes to waste. Either way I feel like I didn't get my money's worth. That being said, he's really awesome in either situation.

I like Vulkan though. 2+/3++ save, a Relic Blade at Initiative 5, master-crafted (and with digis!) plus an army wide twin-link/Mastercraft on all meltas, flamers, and hammers? All for under two hundred points? Bargain every time.

Yeah, I'd have to say either Vulkan or a regular GK librarian. What they bring to the table is absolutely astounding for their point cost.

Not every shadow, but any shadow

Being sensible , I'd go for Vulkan and the GK libby like my mate here does,

For fluff coolness it would be Inquisitor Valeria , there just has to be a way to make all those cool toys work!

I'll put a good word in for Trazyn. He's scoring which is always nice, and is one of the hardest things to permanently kill in the game. Every time he dies he gets RP, if that fails he then moves to the next lord/overlord and the whole process repeats 'til all lords are gone and he fails RP. Two good things that only complement each other. That and he's not to pricey

Marbo is awesome IF you can put him in a good spot. I've seen him wipe out entire squads of terminators as well as Immortals and even tie up a Necron Overlord for an entire game.

The problem is getting him in a spot where he'll be almost impossible to kill (cover) so that your enemy has to make the tough choice of devoting tons of firepower to kill him, or ignore him and focus on the rest of your army. Either way, he almost always makes his points back, and his ability to be put wherever you feel like (as long as its 1" away from an enemy) makes him an awesome advantage. Not to mention the psychological advantage of telling your opponent "Yeah this dude shows up wherever I feel like and tosses a demo charge, then if you don't kill him, he'll run around going Rambo on you."

I consider him a must bring in any of my lists under 1500pts

If I have the points, I love running Tigurius. While I repect that he is a bit expensive, his "knows every power" ability is pretty sweet. How many times have you been like "man, that one psychic power would be sweet right now," but couldn't use it because you either didn't have a Librarian or the one you did have didn't happen to have selected that power? And to be fair, most of the powers in the book are very situational, and won't be useful every game. That's why I love Tigurius, because you can always be like "oh, wait, I do have that power. Not only that, I can use the sucker!" I think it's pretty sweet. It's also nice to have the three psychic powers a turn. And reserve re-rolls.

If I played IG, there would ALWAYS be a Marbo in my list. Of course, having chosen Black Templars and Crimson Fists as my chapter choices, I love Kantor (stubborn army wide, scoring sternguard, a built in chapter banner, and a fairly decent Chapter Master) and the Emperor's Champion (Army wide preferred enemy? Why, yes please).

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Probably marbo since he cost at least half as much as a cheap space marine special character.

Marbo, beyond any doubt. No matter the point level, no matter the style I play, I've fielded him in every I played so far.

I would say Marbo just for the sheer psycological effect of putting on the table and saying " This is what Rambo would be like if Chuck Norris was his dad."

For IG, Marbo is great for the points but Straken is good for general combat. He's just as powerful as Yarrick in many ways for less points and with a higher armour save! Plus he can issue orders as well and the bonuses to CC he gives to nearby and joined units can make them viable in CC to an extent (if you give them flamers/meltas and such). But hey, that's just me.

I really like Nemesor. his story and his game play is great. I love being able to take away some special abilities from my opponent and give a special rule to my own.

but all time favorites are a toss between Kharn and Kantor. I like the stories and their abilities

You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.

I have a soft spot for Arjac Rockfist. S10 thunderhammer, Termi armor, EW, 5 attacks on the charge, dueling bonuses and best of all can't be picked out so has as many wounds as other guys in his squad.

See pics of my Orks, Tau, Emperor's Children, Necrons, Space Wolves, and Dark Eldar here:

I think of Arjac as Lysander's little brother. S10 Thunder Hammers, EW, 5 attacks on charge and SS. Lysander has more wound and is an IC but Arjac can hide in squads of Wolf Guard. Lysander has +1 damage chart vs vehicles but Arjac has a thow. And is cheaper.
