All assassins sound great on paper but I find that they tend just to be man-sized targets and, when the inveitably large volume of fire comes their way they are not great survivers.

Case and point I ran a vindicare assassin in a game and lost the first turn. My opponents first shot was a lascannon at my assassin who promptly failed his cover save and 6+ feel no pain rule and so died instantly due to instant death without firing a shot, taking a fair amounts of my points with him.

A callidus assassin sounds like a tasty investment but wanted to get your opinion on which is the best assassin from experience??

The Vindicare is, hands down, the best assassin. The others don't do very much. You just got unlucky.


You also don't get FNP agaisnt a lascannon, as it's AP2.

How did you lose first turn then?

If you're using him right, you lost him more down to bad luck than him being bad at his job. The Vindicare is simply the best one out of the lot.

On a roll off? Thats cool I thought he was hence me including him. I will try it again and se how he does.

See he does so well that opponents don't want him to get a shot off. He does have a bonus to cover save right? Besides he fired a lascannon at him that turn which mean that one less shot against your rhinos, dreads, or whatever your fielding.

I was glad to see the Vindicare assassin get a good revamp. He was sorely lacking in the previous Codex, and I think an elite sniper unit is something that is pretty sparse in 40k.

It sucks you missed your 3+ cover; you could have gone to ground and got a 2+....

How did you lose that game first turn?
What points value were you playingat?
AFAIK the Vindicare is fairly cheap in comparison with some units, he shouldn't be taking large chunks of your points unless you're playing at 500 points or something similar...

They're one shot weapons. If your opponant goes first then yeah they're not a great investment.

Wounding on 2+ or on a 4+ with a negated Invuln save?

AND he can pick targets from squads, removing your nicely nuzzled in commissars or IC's.

Ah 3rd Edition times. But at least everybody could take assassins back then.

The way you worded it made it sound like this: I lost first turn
Rather than this: I lost the roll-off to go first.
Makes much more sense now... to me at least...
As to your OP...
It happens. It could have easily not happened...
It is probably one of the best (Out of the 3 rather than the 4) if not the best...

The Vindicare is the best assassin out there(Deathcult are NOT assassins, they just happen to be called that in the fluff. Assassin refers to one of the 4 Elite choices)


Of course the dice can always screw you over, but if he gets a few shots off a game(very likely with 3+ cover) he is going to dominate.

The vindicare is twice as good as any other assassin. Out.of the others I would say the Eversor is second.

Between 5 and 10 Str 5, WS 8, Int 8, Lightning Claw attacks on the charge? For cheaper than any other Assassins? With MeltaBombs standard? I want one!


After that I would say the Culexus only.if you.know you will ne fighting psyker heavy armies. It is a great compliment to a Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor with Null Rod and Comdemor Bolter and a Libby. Take a couple of GK things and some Inquisitorial Psykers, even just 1, and devastate a psyker army. Stormravens with Mindstrike.missiles, the Condemor Bolter and an OSR with Psychic Barrage for automatic perils and a Libby will kill of any oppossing Nid or Eldar list and even other GK will get a good workout.
