I started collecting VC when the last edition of them first came out and now that they have once more been re-released I thought Id have a crack at redoing some elements of the army.

Now atm I have about 120 mantic zombies on the way so I'll start by working on my old Grave Guard.

Here they are in all their badly painted glory.

My unit standard, for my first go at a freehand banner it wasnt too bad.

And the unit Champion.

Luckily I also had a box of 10 GG Iv yet to touch sitting in the cupboard for who knows how long now, so I'll also paint those up.

The biggest change for these new and improved GG will be giving them all 2h weapons.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh I'll also be rebasing them as this is what their bases look like at present.

Any suggestions for how I should base them are welcome. For now Im thinking just some gravel stuff and dead grass, maybe some puddles of water.

The 19 GG have now been assembled, I just need to add a bit of dark magic and they shall live.

Havent bothered with stripping the old GG, the paint wasnt that thick and Im only going to do a real simple ethereal paintjob on them, hence why they are all fully assembled.

Because I know I will get demotivated and bored painting giant hordes of undead with lots of detail, this army shall be painted nice and basic, the characters will be benefitting from all the attention as they should.

Lovin' that gritty look. The freehand on the standard is pretty good, and I like what you're doing with your grave guard.

If I had a dollar for every dollar I spent I'd have all my money back.

GG are all undercoated now, I'll start doing up a colour scheme test model soon.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So heres the test scheme.

I think it goes alright.

Basically, I just gave the undercoated model a drybrush with astronomican grey.

Then and asurman blue wash.

Then I drybrushed very lightly with skull white (forgot to take pic), then used a watered down Thraka green wash. When applying the wash I made certain areas a bit more green than others.

Finally after the wash dried I then gave the model one last light drybrush with skull white.

The Grave Guard are pretty much done, just need to do their bases.

My 120 Zombies have also just turned up from mantic, they got here really fast, quite impressed.

The Grave Guard are now all done and based up.

The base is just some ballast sprayed black then drybrushed with dheneb stone and washed in devlan mud. The grass is a 50/50 mix of the GW dead grass and burnt grass, gives the grass a nice dark and lifeless look.

Heres the unit.

....wait is that...Krell?! Lord of Undeath?!!
Could his Axe possibly be any larger?

My impulse buy for today included (as you can see) Krell Lord of Undeath in all his finecast glory and a pack of the vampire battle magic cards.

I was a little hesitant to buy Krell because of finecast and all its horror stories, but I must say Im pretty impressed with the model, no crazy abnormalities or bubbles.
The only real imperfections are the weird mold line on his cloak and the axe is a bit bent. Both are easy fixes.

Here's Krell a bit closer up.

Heres the mold line on his cape. Kinda looks like a little strip was cut from his cloak or something.

Have been a bit distracted playing minecraft lately but here is the Isabella model Iv recently bought.
A fair few tiny air bubbles on this one, no major problems apart from that though.

I also bought the Empire wizard box kit to convert a few necromancers. (Not a fan of the old models GW re-used)
Heres the first one Iv put together so far.

Im not sure if I should fray his robes a bit and make him a bit hermit looking or leave him pretty much as is. Hermit looking is a bit stereotypical is all.

Where did you get the head from for the Necromancer? Or did you just cut the hair off the Bright Wizard head? If so, impressive work

I think most people expect a bit of frayed cloth on their Necromancers these days, but that's not to say some Masters of the Dark Arts don't keep their wardrobe in good order.

Really liking the grave guard, but i reckon they could use some reds and golds. Keen to see Krell painted up!

Yeah the head is the Bright wiz one, he looks better bald lol.

I think I like the idea of the necromancers having some nice robes, maybe theyve sent their minions plundering towns or such.

Im not sure Ill add any other colour to the GG, the idea is that they are sort of spirits, mainly it was to paint them fast so I may go back and add more to them at a later stage.

Krell will be proper colours though, 1 because hes a character and needs a good paint job and 2, because Id like it to look like he has a solid presence and isnt just a spirit.
