hey guys

I've got a few thoughts and questions:

1) Exlating threads and posts. It always says "exalt +1". Maybe there should be an exalt count?

2) The gallery. If you sort a bunch of images by rating, very often the top ones only have one single vote, wich is the creators`, and 10/10. Maybe images with less than 5 votes should be ignored for the purposes of sorting?

3) Is there a way to see how many views an article has?

4) the "views" count of a thread. Does it count logged in users only or everyone?

Merlin

1. There is but it is private as different users have different exalting power.

2. The high rated low vote images get filtered out faster the way it is. It is a little annoying when you check, but it maintains better overall health of the gallery,

3, A view count is stored, but not displayed. I've not yet decided on the best way to show the view count but will eventually.

4. Any view from anyone.

5. Correct

More:

This recently came up in the P&M blog section: Is there a way to see how many people have subribed to your thread? Many people would like to know who actually follows their blogs!

and I had the following idea:

Often when I check my subscribed threads and I see one of my fav blogs on the top of the list, I get dissapointed when the new post is just someone commenting on the OPs minis. This can be avoided by changing the thread title when there actually is an update, but many people dont do that....
so I though maybe it'd be a good idea to add a "limited subscribtion"-feature. (a small button next to the "subscribe§ button) This'd add the blog to your subd threads-list, but only push it to the top when the OP posts on it.....
But thats propably too complicated......

Automatically Appended Next Post:
forgot this one:
I'm always interested in the gallery rating I get, but I have to check my gallery images manually to see if there are any new votes. Have you considered adding a feature that informs you about any new votes already?

oh and:
you can only see the most recent comments on the side of your gallery homepage..... is there a way to see all the comments you posted on other peoples work/ others posted on your work?

Is anyone's over 9000? But seriously why do we have different exalting power and what does that mean?

Mods and admins have more power than normal users who have more power than unregistered guests for exalting.

Subscription counts are not very useful as they very rarely differ from the number of people who have posted in a thread, and people use the 'my viewed threads' feature almost as much as my subscribed threads for project log updates.

An OP only subscription feature would be useful for the painting and modeling area, but not too beneficial elsewhere. I might consider adding it in the far future, but not any time soon.

Gallery comments will be more nicely integrated in the future (planned upgrade).

Gallery rating notification is not planned for an update as it is too subjective and people would just end up being pissed off by the odd troll here and there.

Sorry for jumping into your thread, but this seems the best place to ask random questions with no solid design. The only thing i was wonder is, Some times i get typing fast and i don't catch all the lower case letters. Is there a way to make it so It auto caps? Kinda like a word document? Or is that something that is here but i am missing? I wouldn't normally care, but dakka has made the point that they want the post to look good and be readable. It would be easier and nicer to have an auto cap. Just asking.

That's what the preview button is for. Always check before you post a message and make the changes at that point. And if you forget, there is an edit button too. I imagine any kind of text corrector would be way too heavy load on the bandwidth.

I'm sure there is some browser plugin that will do it, but it is out of the scope of dakka's code base.

I had a quick look earlier out of curiosity for a Firefox addon that would do something similar but I didn't find much. You may have more luck (or use Chrome of course )

MrMerlin, think you could start a new thread for new question/problems? It
would help people looking for similar questions/problems.
