As the title; I played Tzeench a long time back, but I was curious if anyone ever bothers to play chaos unaligned? Is it worth it to not have the MoK halberds, or the MoT shields, etc etc. Can this kind of army play well and compete?

I'm sure people do play 100% undivided. There is a player I've seen at big tournaments who has a Roman-themed WoC, but I never figured out if it was undivided or not. I have seen/played against a couple of divided WoC armies - Nurgle and Slaanesh.

But WoC is so strong, I've heard going undivided is still viable.

currently playing: ASoIaF | Warhammer 40k: Kill Team

other favorites:
FO:WW | RUMBLESLAM | WarmaHordes | Carnevale | Infinity | Warcry | Wrath of Kings

I haven't played Warhammer in years, but Avatars of War's not-Chaos Warrior models have been making me consider returning. Since my half-formed plan would be an undivided WoC army, would somebody care to enlighten me, in general terms, as to how restrictive the selection of marks is under the present rules, and what their pros and cons are?

I have seen it done several times, sadly the lists were not very good and the woc did get slaughtered.
How ever it is doable it's just the army needs to be well put together, as well as having a lvl 4 shadow should be a good start as well as a bsb is a requirement IMO.

i used to play a multi dedicated list, some of everything involved, such as slanesh spawn, khorne knights, nurgle mauraders/warriors and tzeentch sorcerers. i found the army played fairley well.

my friend also plays woc, and im not sure if he has multi marks or just one, or none. i do know he has used slanesh in the past for the immune to psycology or ASF bonus.

i think the marks are what makes it not just another army. i usualy play mark of nurgle but next time i may try unmarked next time i play to see how it goes but i think the marks add divercity and 2 of them add survivability on that long treck up the board and the other 2 are verry combat based

Blood Angels : 3500+ points
Imperial Guard 3000+ points
Mechanicum 4000+ points

immune to psychology is nice, and having extra ward saves and such is also neat. frenzy is iffy in CC but can help i suppose. i just think it would be odd to have an entire army of chaos without any marks at all..

Unalligned? Don't think that's really a good choice. Chaos Marks, while aren't restrictive (you can mix and match with characters, units and whoever and get all sorts of results) because they add a LOT of potential nasty-ness to the army. I picture it like not taking Fanatics for Night Goblins, not impossible, but losing a lot of it's edge.

As for unDIVIDED armies, well, that's easy. Mark of Khorne and Tzeentch both are VERY good, covering both offensive and defensive combat respectively. Slaanesh is good for far reaching outflankers, as being outside of BSB range makes Immune to Psychology pretty good. Nurgle is best used to keep a unit alive, or if you're expecting heavy BS based shooting. And of course, each mark (besides Khorne of course) gives you access to a magic lore.

The correct question is, would I be enjoying this hobby if I did this?

The correct audience is you.

but even without marks you have access to some quite nice magic. the marks are only there to make the army more diverse and have it do what you want it to

Imperial Guard 3000+ points
Mechanicum 4000+ points

I think it's viable to play undivided, you will miss not having Khorne and Tzeentch the most, but you will save a small amount of points so it's not all bad. You can even compensate with things like The Banner of Rage which will give one unit un-lose-able frenzy - better than a MoK.

There is no denying the marks are good, but they give a small advantage to an already formidable army.

Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

I just played against an unmarked chaos army this past weekend at our tournament, and he managed to defeat my tzeentch warriors, so they do exist. Chaos warriors don't need a whole lot of extras to make them great.

That being true. How ever shadow and woc makes all sorts of nasty happen.
Most people play chaos because of the gods from what I have seen.

Over all do able but how can one do chaos without chaos gods...???

It's not that they don't worship the Chaos Gods, they just worship them equally, rather than putting one above the others.
