I am playing Orks and my friend is going to be playing Dark Elder. I have 13k points in orks with virtually every “type” of squad. I don’t know what he plans to use but we have agreed upon 3600 points. However we are still abiding by the rules in the codex’s, meaning no apocalypse and we must keep force organization. I am thinking bikes (nobz and boyz) and storm boyz so he can’t kite me around and since I don’t need to pound through heavy armor it seems like a good idea.

So I am looking for assistance with what to take in a list this big…I am sorry I can’t provide you with his army list or what is in my collection. I assure you I have whatever you might suggest though, so please don’t be concerned with that. Just act like I own it.

I don’t use wound allocation, so all my nobz on bikes have PK, and any other nobz squad will be created with the same equipment (e.g. all with combi shoot-Rokkit, all big choppa, ect…). I like evenness with squads (ocd).

Thank you

Ok. Well, I guess it goes without saying. DE cap out their FOC at about 2500pts... so he is going to be starting to invest in upgrades... while you can keep on making your army bigger! Awesome.

4 large 30 man mobz. Take battlewagons as dedicated only to open up the FOC. Take a mec to take a dread as a troop, then get large unit or two of stormboyz in addition to the 3 boyz. 2 units of maxed lootas and some komandos, kans for heavy.

And then just rush him and beat hiim into a bloody pulp.

wow 3600 points DE is gonna SUCK. i find it difficult to go beyond 2000 with my DE
expect Vect with an archon court and his pimp mobile (AV13). Vect is the only model there with a power weapon so either use MANz and direct as many PKs at vect to instagib him or tarpit it with huge numbers of boys.

If i was trying to go 3600 I would take a huge unit of grots. I know they will get to combat against orcs and they will wreck face. Got anything with Str10 to insta kill them? Otherwise MANz are your best answer.

If you take MANz, stay away from his Incubi. If you dont have MANz, then his incubi will be wasted.

At such a large number of points he wont be able to take venoms, so will be raider heavy. That means he will have tons of DL and will probably kill off most of your vehicles rather early.
If he is smart he will have a bunch of fighters or bombers instead of ravagers. Those missles can do a lot of damage to 30man boyz squads so dont bunch things up.

Basically I agree though. Take lots of boys each with a BW to sit around and blast junk. I think warbosses are good for unlocking MANz and Nobs squads. Big Mech for KFF is also nice but the dread is not gonna excite me that much.

I have over 10,000pts of DE all told these days, not coutning Extended Codex units.
Be around 15,000 when I get my old kit out of storage.
Personally I have no issue making 3600pts (30 Grotesques alone is 1125pts, 6 kitted out Haems can be between 390 and 600pts, Razorwings kitted out are 200pts per, etc.)
Running a WWP list you can easily run a LARGE competitive army at high points values.
From when I've played vs orcs previously the main things to worry me have been Battlewagons and Lootas, to some degree Killakanz / Deffdreds.

I remember when playing orks that his lootas caused something like 20 pens, of which I saved 3-4, leading to 15 counts of 'youdead'.

I'd suggest 2 force organization charts to avoid point sinks.
Table size would be 4x8?

I'd try something like this-

Mek Kff
Wazdakka
3 bw's (~751 points to split on 3 nob squads)
2 x 20 boyz rokkits, pk bp nob
4x9 bikers pk bp nob
2x16 stormboyz pk bp nob
3 battle wagons

1 fast attack slot is open as well.

or I'd go Kann wall-
2* big mek
3*15 kommando pk bp nob 2 rokkits
6*30 boyz with rokkits
3*20 storm boyz pk bp nob
3*3 kanns (2 with grotzooka 1 with big shoota)
and there are still a few points to flex in there I think.

Strategy here would be to throw orks at them starting turn 1 to hopefully pop the transports and then spread out enough to where he can't run away.

The bike list feels stronger I think because of the mass str 5 with the huge threat range, but DE weapons take away from survivability.

The thing thing about any discussion concerning why orks did something usually ends with because they are orks, and noone seems to argue, or offer further questioning.
