I was moderating what I felt was intent to slur. It gets aggravating and
we've moderated news and rumors for company comparisons in product
news before. In this case, it seems as if people feel I was doing so to
defend Privateer Press, but in my defense, I feel like I was also in it to
defend Games Workshop and the easiest thing to do is to just mod for
both.

Would I do the same for a GW thread? I would, if my attention was there.
However, the rest of the moderating team is usually faster than me

So you modded (which is what mods do) and the people you modded got mad (which is what people who have been modded do).

As you say, if they truly feel that you have moderated unfairly they can take it up with yak.

I agree with fett. I can't see the quality of what you modded, only the quantity, so I don't think anyone outside of those who are already upset will have much to add. If you are unhappy with an employee, you go to their supervisor, which in this analogy is yakface.

I've never seen issue with your moderation before and I'm not seeing one now.

What you've said there's true, eventually all the PP threads, out of their section, seem to degrade to that same argument and it kills them. If they truly wish to compare the two they should make a separate thread about it, then try to discuss it civilly.

The thing goes with what I always say.
For the people that cares, its an issue, for the people that doesnt care, its drama.

Dakka is dominantly a GW site, filled with tons of GW fans, for what ever none GW related
usually gets singled out, bashed, with little to no consequences due to mob majority.

Malfred is 100% right, yet in a way that another mod explained to me in the past
"it doesnt matter if you are actually right, if everyone else disagrees with you"

To avoid the appearance of bias, it would probably be better if you had some other MOD deal with the thread.

Not because you're a fan of PP, but because you're a Pressganger.

That said, most MODs aren't concerned with the appearance of (in some cases actual) bias.

YOu should commisserate with your fellow mods or at worst on the DCM Malf. Always have a brave face in public (and sack full of door knobs behind your back).

I have no problems with your moderation. Though I would like to say I'm sorry since I was the first person to compare it's price to forgeworld when people were complaining about it's price. So I probably wound up starting the war in that thread. Sorry.

It's not the content, it's the tone.

Some of the posts in the thread are right. Some comparisons
are fair. But when flames directed at fans of either company go
around, then you're just insulting people who like both companies.

Anyway, thanks for commenting here rather than in the colossal thread.

I'm sure nothing was said that hasn't been repeated ad naseum, and unless somebody can claim that what they said wasn't actuall off topic and/or rude, your moderation helped the thread.

Of course people can complain about prices and companies they don't like but you said it was the tone. However, all that's deleted so can't comment on the tone. So old fashioned thread lock probably would have been the way to go. Threads have been locked for less.

agree'd bro. its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

do what you think was right, and move on. if it comes above you and you change the situation you change it. no big deal.

in my years of modding (other forums obviously) I followed this simple guideline:

1) am I doing this out of spite, or enforceing policy
2) is there a REASON to violate normal TOS (ie right content right thread, iie DCM lounge)
3) have I given the people enough time to moderate themselves. (this does happen you know)

other than that, embrace your authority. just don't succumb to it.

Personally I feel you are one of tge best of the moderation team. More friendly and less hard edged, sounding than others. That's not to say other mods are not forgiven and so forth, but you Malf, have a more natural and nicer flow to the way you write. Uts seems more like "Hey, I know everything is heated right now, but I think we should all just cool off for a bit and start a new thread"
