Granted that there would be no screw-ups a la Chaos or the Eldar.

And by fully working STC, I mean FULLY working, including the plans for the Men of Iron.

They'd move it to a safe location and start cranking gak out, depending on what STC they found. Right?

By fully working, I meant that the STC(s) would include everything from the Dark Age of Technology, like the STCs of the past.

Every STC every made/in existence?

I thought STC's were built to make 1 or more specific templates, not ALL templates.

Some yea and some degraded over time, but back in the old times, STCs were meant to make everything, to allow the human colonies to keep up the tech level.

With that assumption, I'd guess that the Imperium would get some much needed advanced armors cranked out to defend themselves against the awakening Necrons and the on-going Waaaghs and Tryanid Hive assaults.

Makes sense, but I still can't tell if the Imperium would put the Men of Iron to use again, maybe with inhibitors, like Centurions in Battlestar Galactica 2003...

Perhaps, given enough time, they might make armor for regular humans and reinforce the Cadian Gate and a few other strategic strong points with stormtrooper squads.

It'd still only be a single STC, and would probably end up with 'too much of a good thing' problems. If it can make all sorts of incredible stuff, it's going to be hard to produce anything on a scale that has an Imperium-wide effect.

After a few decades or a century, the advanced tech would make the Tau look like stone-age barbarians compared to Guardsmen and Astartes outfitted with advanced tech newly delivered from Mars derived from STC data. The Eldar would probably be shuffling around uncomfortably, but I doubt even the Dark Eldar are rabid enough to attack Mars. Battlefleet Solar can be there in hours, and the Imperial Fists and Grey Knights in minutes. Considering it's an STC, the Emperor might even send Custodians to assist. Attacking Mars and Terra, even through the Webway is a guaranteed suicide mission with 100% FAIL guarantee.

Also, a friend of mine says the tech from STC would greatly speed up Warp travel. I'm inclined to believe him.

Whilst it would give the IoM a few new weapons, I doubt a new STC would fix the IoM technological stagnation. In fact, it would probably worsen it as the Admech would get even more fanatical and reluctant to change.

Necrons would certainly not be impressed; they already have mastery of time and space, so what if the humans got a new gun?

Orks on the other hand would be thrilled. Not only do the humies put up a better fight, but now there's new dakka to loot .

That doesn't make sense. The sole reason AdMech is looking for STCs is to return mankind to its zenith.

Yes, before the fall. At their current mindset, they would not allow humanity to advance their tech to the point of say, necrons.

And its not just to return mankind to the golden age. Its also for religious reasons. The consider all STC designs to be holy relics, and complete heresy to modify one or even to invent new tech that has nothing to do with STCs

Standard Template Construct. Basically a compact library of all the human tech. They were standard during the Dark Age of Technology and became pretty much the holy grail in the current time. It's stated that should one of the fully working STCs be ever found, the Imperium would return to its greatness.

Pretty much. The Imperium at that time was split apart because of Warp storms, so the STCs became lost one way or another.

There are actually some almost working examples of STC's in exsistance, unfortunatly of the ones remaining they have degraded to the point where they can only produce one or two things.

Originally when a group of settlers were sent out to colonize a new planet they were equiped with a few of these machines, the machine could build anything within its library and even duplicate itself, unfortunatly these machines were relativly slow and inefficient when compared to mass production.

If the IoM were to find a complete and working STC depending upon what was in its library it could be a huge boon to them, and might allow them to make many things they lost the ability to make including; gravity plating for ships, weapons and the largest titans.

So basically what you're saying is the quality of orkish looted vehicles and 'ard boy armour would improve.
