In our little war gaming group, we have a Necron player who has been pretty dominant. The couple of times I've faced him I've ended up tabled by turn four or five. As most of these scenarios were with a teammate, and because like a true Ork player I love a good fight, I challenged him to a one-on-one duel of two thousand points. At this point value, he tends to run two lists based on ghost and doomsday arks or monoliths, fielding at least forty Warriors or more. So much destructive ranged firepower in vehicles has made it tough for me to fight him as my vehicles are just not tough enough to deal with it. So with that in mind, I've decided to run a sort of modified green tide. Let me know what you all think.

HQ - 180
Warboss - 90
'Eavy armor, big choppa, skorcha, bosspole, cybork
Big Mek - 90
KFF, Skorcha

Elites - 265
Kommandos - 265
15 Kommandos, 2 burnas, Snikrot

Troops - 1245
Nobz - 345
1. Painboy, cybork
2. Nob w/ waaagh banner, PK, cybork
3. Nob w/ power klaw, cybork
4. Nob w/ big choppa, armor, skorcha
5. Nob w/ big choppa, armor
6. Nob w/ big choppa, cybork
7. Nob w/ armor, BP
8. Nob w/ cybork
Trukk w/ red paint job
Shoota Boyz - 225
30 boyz, Nob w/ PK, BP, armor
Slugga Boyz - 225
30 boyz, Nob w/ PK, BP, armor
Slugga Boyz - 225
30 boyz, Nob w/ PK, BP, armor
Slugga Boyz - 225
30 boyz, Nob w/ PK, BP, armor

Fast Attack -280
3 x Rokkit buggies 105
3 x Rokkit buggies 105
1 x deffkoptas w/ TW rokkit and buzzsaw 70

The total puts me at 1970, so that gives me a few points to play around with. The plan is to drop the Big Mek in with da boyz while they march up field, affording the big blob of infantry enough protection to rumble up close and pop their transports, with the buggies and kopter as support. With those numbers I should have enough boys left to soak up whatever fire they throw my way and break them down in the assault. Meanwhile, the warboss will be getting sneaky with the Snikrot to wreak some damage in the backfield. Depending on the terrain setup, the nobz will either hang back in cover or be in reserves to bat cleanup and plug any holes.

What say you, Dakka Dakka? Comments and criticism are welcome.

I know it is a typical response, but I would take 2 squads of Lootas before a trukk load of nobs in this list. Only reason is that truck will get blasted and your nobs will be on foot thereby getting singled out and shot to pieces.

Lootas would be able to take out most of his arks and barges from afar while safely staying out of range of his gauss rifles and tesla carbines.

I cannot remember the AP fo gauss or tesla, but if it is 5 or lower, I would also think about taking a forward screen of 'ard boyz to draw fire and provide cover to your rear ranks. If that is too expensive, you could also do the same with a mob of grots up front. This makes your opponent choose between:
a. wasting a turn (maybe 2) of shooting at 3 point grots
b. ignoring the grots, shooting through them and giving your boyz a 4+ cover save instead of 5+ from the KFF.

The only other thing I *might* do is out the warboss on a bike inside that squad of kommandoes. After the first round, he breaks off, can catch anything in the backfield, and is T6.

Just my thoughts.

The biggest concern I have with Loota's is that the shielding on the arks makes them front AV13. All they can do is glance it and they can't even touch monoliths. They're great for mowing down the Warriors after their out of the transports, but the Doomsday arks have the range to blast them to pieces while the body of the boyz are still on the way up. Gauss rifles are A4 and I don't have any grots.

I was thinking I should put a powerklaw on the boss. He's the only model that can reliably drop the monolith with strength 10.

I like you list.

I'd drop some nobs and the meganob armour on the boss for bikes. A smaller but more durable squad of nob bikers witha boss would be the speed element you need.

Agreed, your nobz will be footslogging after the enemy's 1st shooting phase, and I'm not a fan of foot slogging nobz.

What do you normally run? I'm a big supporter of mechanized or kan walls.

Gauss flayers are AP 5, Gauss Blasters are AP 4

As far as this list goes, I think you'll be able to reach his lines, and take him in melee, but you need to plan for those vehicles.

Well, like most ork players, my way of dealing with AV14 is deffrolling, PK's, or ignoring it. Our shooty weapons just don't give us viable ways to handle AV14.

I run a Necron list with a Monolith and 2 Doomsday Arks against horde armies as well. It's hilarious being on the delivering end of the firepower punishment for a change.

See, the thing with Green tide against Necrons is you are going up against Doomsday Arks that will just pie plate your army. It won't take him long to kill your Big Mek with a 72'' Large Blast Strength 9 AP 2 weapon, and then your army loses it's cover save and every time he places that marker you are basically removing those models from underneath it. Then his warriors will shred you.

I think the best way to win this is with a big battlewagon rush. The reason for that is his Doomsday Arks are not Ordinance, so they are far less effective against your wagons. The Wagons could get your Boyz into assault quick, without being shot up by warriors and the arks, and then you could be able to Deffrolla whats left.

Some of the lists we came up with in this thread might point you in the direction I'm talking about. The one with 5 battlewagons may be particularly effective against your enemy.

Reckoner, I think that eventually the Battlewagon rush is going to be my primary builds. I've only got one at the moment, and unless it's a smaller game where there's less firepower to deal with it, it gets singled out and shot up pretty quickly. That's a good looking BW list though and I fully intend to adapt it and use it in the future when I've got the wagons.

What I figure with the Mek is that him and his 30-strong unit will be getting a 4+ cover save from being in the back ranks. He'll have to pour a lot of shots into it to take it out, and that'd be ignoring the other threats in the front line. I'm hoping the sheer amount of wounds on the infantry blob, 124-ish, and 5+/4+ cover saves will be enough to get the four power klaws close where they can peel open those transports like an orange.

Holding the Nobz back in the trukk SHOULD keep them alive long enough to get stuck into a hot zone, considering they won't be entering the fray until at least turn two. The Kommandos with the boss should be enough of a one-two punch to close the show once the Necrons are dismounted. The only way I see that backfiring is if my reserves take longer than three turns to come out.

Mr. DK, as for sticking the boss on the bike, I eventually plan to pickup that ForgeWorld model with the buzzsaw PK. Toughness 5(6) just sounds nasty and the ability to detach from a unit and drive 18 inches towards a high priority target with a strength 10 PK and 4+/4+/5+ is even better. I've only got three bikes at the moment, though.\

Right now most of my builds are geared towards different versions of the Green Tide, Taurinus. My long term goal is to have a workable version of every Ork army build, as I don't really care about any other army since, y'know, green is best.

And Andrew, YOU ARE GOING DOWN.

Yeah, my vote would be get in trukks and wagons, and run up there as fast as you can. Maybe take more than one Big Mek w/ KFF?
