Hey, just found out something interesting. I just got invited for a 3.5 week trip through Europe. Being nearly as far away as possible from the Island being in the cont. States, I am quite excited to get that far besides the couple lay overs within airports on my way to Iraq and back in 2008.
In either case, I am wondering if there is a 'headquarters' or a 'head' GW store? I don't think I will have enough room to bring models and gaming gear, but I have to say I would kick myself if I did not at least try to meet up with some players over there, get one or two games in, and then a beer afterwards. I think I will be in the area for about 5 days starting on the 5th of July.
I don't know schedules over there, but a tourney over there within this time frame would be absolutely amazing to attend. Definitely a once in a lifetime chance.
If anyone has some suggestions, I would gladly hear them.
Cheers,
Waffles
Forgot to note: I will be in Germany for nearly a week after leaving the UK. If anyone knows if this would be worthwhile to get a game in as well, let me know.

The "head" store would be at GW HQ in Nottingham. The gaming area is Warhammer World with loads of tables etc. and Bugman's Bar. What could be better? Sadly they don't have spare armies for people to use; I'm not sure if any of the UK stores do any more come to think of it.
While there aren't any official tournaments going on, there are plenty of tables for you to meet up and play on. The 7th of July is also one of the painting Masterclasses, which are great fun.

Thanks for the information.
I figured GW got rid of the store use armies in the UK like they did in the US about 3 years ago or so.
Nottingham it is, I will see what I can do and keep posted.
Just a heads up, this is not a promise. I would just like to meet up and go somewhere. If anyone thinks they have a better gaming spot, let me know and I will see what one will work best for my little time over there.
Thanks again for anyone who responds,
Waffles

Yep Warhammer World is the mecha for GW fans. Forge World orders there and then. 40k themed food at Bugmans bar. There's also the museum which has a ton of displays and a lot of the studio armies which you see in codexes and white dwarf. The gaming room is pretty awesome too...

You can't really get more HQ than Warhammer World in Nottingham. :3 It's pretty damned good for gaming too...
There's also the main GW store in the centre of Nottingham City.

Forgive me if I'm wrong (haven't been to it 10 years) But isn't the GW store in central Nottingham the same as any other GW?

Heh true. Nottingham Castle has a pretty good tour if I remember correctly too. You could fill quite a day there.

Indeed!
@ OP: You can burn a couple of hours at Warhammer World the most, unless of course you have a table for gaming booked. Nottingham City is really nice to walk around, plus for a meal, I wholly recommend Ye' Olde Trip to Jerusalem, supposdely the oldest pub//inn in England. Crusaders stopped at the location for refreshment.

It has a nice selection of traditional and local ales as well, with plenty of cheap places to stay nearby.

It is sounding more and more permanent that I will spend at least one day in Nottingham. Just way too much greatness there. Besides, I know my family name originated from the area, so that is a bonus.
Someone had stated that you needed to "book" a table at Warhammer World. If I get the the specific day down and figure out a way to back my army case, would anyone here want to beat up on some Tau, or would it just be a "walk-in" game when I get there.
Thank you again everyone, the information is great,
Waffles

I would but I live at the opposite end of the country. I'd like to say though, even if you don't get a game it's still worth going.

If you wanted to play something other than a GW game (or a GW game somewhere that isn't GW ), Maelstrom Games also have their gaming venue in Nottingham. I've heard it is pretty good.

Dude! Maelstrom are in Mansfield, about ten miles outside of Nottingham. It's literally 200 meters away from where I live.
@ jazzpaintball; if you need or fancy a guding hand around Nottingham City proper, I'll gladly be of help provided I'm not busy on the day. Can't vouch for getting in a game though, waiting on 6th Edition before I start playing once more.

The Eye of the Storm is in Mansfield and it is prettty damn good, I'd say They've got lots of tables, nice terrain, a great shop and a good bar area with a boardgame library. I also like the building - an old industrial mill place. The staff are nice, approachable and open folks.
I see the OP is in the area from the 5th of July. I just so happens that the 2012 European Team Challenge for Warmachine and Hordes is taking place in the Eye of the Storm from the 6th to the 8th! There are singles tournaments on the 6th as well, several different events and it is of course possible to try other games. 60 4-man teams from 9 different nations are signed on, and it was great last year - I met several people who had come by to play 40k, Infinity and Hell Dorado in the shop area during the tourney and stuck around to have a few beers with the rest of us. I bought my first Infinity miniatures there and got good advise by the staff on what to get.
I will be showing up with 11 other norwegians on the 5th.

Hey Jazz, I'll gladly tear your Tau a new one... I mean, play you at a friendly game of 40k! I'm not local though, I live about an hour and a half away so it'd need to be on a weekend for me. PM me when you have the specifics and we can set something up!

That sounds quite enjoyable. I will get with you, as well as anyone else when I can. I Will also call up the store and ask for a private table. I dont know if they will do that, but i hope they can make an exemption due to these circumstances.
Now just to figure out how to get my army to come with me, lol.
If it may be easier, I may want to do a couple 1500 point games so I dont have to bring so much of my army. I will try and bring 2k though.
What is the norm point wise in the UK? 1500, 1750, 1850, 2000, or 2500?

No idea, I've only had intro games personally... Afaik they're fine with you calling up and just booking a table, it' pretty common I think.
1500 - 2000 points sounds ideal for me

fantastic. Lets plan on a 1500 point game and I will call and try and make reservations.
If anything changes, It will be for a higher point game and/or a few more players.
I would love to meet a few different players on the other side of the world.

Got a response from Warhammer world. A table or two can be reserved easily, but they will not supply me with any models to play with, (unless bought, as they made sure to include) to supplement an army list for me to bring less.
Looks like I will be trying to figure out a way to pack up my army and send it over without it being destroyed by the baggage handlers.
Thanks again guys,

You're going to germany after that? Where in germany? I'm guessing in mid July?
I live near Mainz, wich is near Frankfurt. Close to both is Wiesbaden, where they have a GW store. If you're in the are we could meet there and have a battle (if you cant bring your own models I might be able to borrow my bros eldar.....)
only problem is that I might be in sweden in july.....

I dont know exactly where in Germany I cam going yet, but I know I will be in that general area (by general though I mean 100 mile radius). Most likely I will be in Stuttgart for a day or so due to the fact that the family races Porsches and we really would love to see the museum/factory.
I will keep others informed. Might as well since it looks like I will have the army with me for the trip anyway

Getting leathered with another vet sounds amazing. I got some funny ones, but do me a favor: leave out the drinking stories. I knew some Brits while I was over there (contractors) that had some scary drinking games like "Soggy Biscuit." HA!
Ohh, by the way. I know the Jerusalem Pub in Nottingham keeps a wall with military patches. I was wondering if they may want an American patch. I have collected many extras over my 8 years of service. I plan to bring them, but If you know of a good wall to add one to, let me know.
Cheers everyone. I will keep you all informed, just please do the same for me,
