Hey all, Im currently building and (will hopefully start) playing Crimson Fists. I really like the GK models and Ive never seen the codex but know its damn good. Would it be cheesy to get some gk termies and remove the 'book n swords' and paint them as CFs?
I was thinking of using them as 1st company of the CFs, but using the gk dex

It's not y to convert stuff. If you wanna use GK Termies as SM termies, it's all good. As for using them in a GK codex.....well, they're GK models right?

Considering how there is a crimson fist HQ in the vanilla marine book, and imperial fists are not all psykers, and how they don't run around all day with terminators, dreadknights and stormravens...
I'd pass on a game.

Should have probs mentioned I was only planning on 'normal' dreads and termies, I wouldnt be using any dkghts, ravens, monkeys, inquis, assassins etc
I have pedro and I know he makes sternies scoring, I have a bunch in my mixed company list. I wanted to run a something wing (so basically all the chapters termies) and figured GK would fit a little better than SW or DA

I think DA are a closer match to Crimson Fists. Aside from the Ravenwing thing they basically the same as C:SM (albeit from previous editions).

How are they more like Crimson Fists? They were in 3rd when they were all Stubborn, but that was years and years ago. Pedro Kantor or Lysander can make the whole army Stubborn.

Deathwing are awesome and really can wreak havoc. lol In the grand scheme it's hard to compare deathwing to paladins/gk termies since DA get shields, cml and better range weapons. The gk saving grace vs them is more psycanons(which are shorter range) and halberds. Though lc from the da are awful nice too since they get the rerolls.

I don't know how you can say DA get better guns when GK get Psycannons. Cyclones are good, but man are Psycannons great.

Lets see better range, better ap, better strength, can actually shoot get off as many shots by the time cc happens since get more turns shooting. So yes I can say they are good. The main bonus gk termies have is fw.
Psycanons are not great unless you have at least 4 in a squad. Just 1-2 is worse then a cml.

I meant DA are a closer match than GK. Crimson Fists aren't all super psyker SM cheese factories. They're just basic Space Marines.

Generally such things are frowned upon, although people probably will be less likely to complain if you pull out a fully done up crimson fists army built for the vanilla Space Marine codex, because at that point its you being loyal to your favorite chapter rather than trying to be an abusive power gamer and using the latest and greatest list with you pre-existing Space Marine minis.

I would not have a problem with it. Paint your marines how you want. and play whatever codex you want. Paint color has nothing to do with WYSWIG, as long as they have the correct weapons, you are good to go. chaos0xomega wrote:Generally such things are frowned upon, although people probably will be less likely to complain if you pull out a fully done up crimson fists army built for the vanilla Space Marine codex, because at that point its you being loyal to your favorite chapter rather than trying to be an abusive power gamer and using the latest and greatest list with you pre-existing Space Marine minis.
Not all people that use different marine codexes to represent their marines are "abusive power gamer"s Some of us have ran the same codex for 3 years and think it is nice to have some flexibility in using different codexes to represent the marines. P.S. Never forget rule #1 http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/forum_rules.jsp

my plan was to borrow the idea of dakka's Aurora chapter player: build the whole chapter and use different codexes for each company.

I think the one marine army that'd be kinda obvious youre skipping around is ba, sw, or smurfs as gk since none of the other books carry halberds. lol The others I can see being easier to stay wyswig. lol

I think there are a lot of GW undercover sales reps on Dakka Dakka, these people want you to buy and paint separate marines for every chapter. These people are the exception, not the rule. 90% of the players out there, and 100% of the tournaments I've been to, would let you run Loganwing/Deathwing with Crimson Fist Termies. Go for it.
However, Crimson Fist Grey Knights will knock those percents down quite a bit (stay away from comp tourneys for sure).

Ive only played one game, and this was before I redid most of my marines as CF
I might have to pick up a DA dex, cause I have tons and tons of oop termies
I still might make a gk list, but I might not run em as CF, just my own scheme or something

I've used Grey Knight Terminator and Power armor bits in my Black Templar and Crimson Fists army. They make excellent Deathwatch bits and Librarian Bits.
Some of the Grey Knight bits can be found in these miniatures, as an example:
