So, up until now I've only painted Tau with a lot of assistance from a friend of mine. I've generally done the basecoat, washes and blocked in all the colors and he's done the heavy lifting (highlights and small details). That army has stalled since I'm wrapping up college and won't be able to get back to it until the summer...however I recently cast some Exorcist shoulder pads for Space Corsair and I decided to go solo and do a test paint of a marine. My painting mentor has moved to another city so I'm on my own for this one.

(Exorcist casting stuff...)

This test paint marks the first mini I've done, start to finish, in over 20+ years. It also marks my first attempt at sculpting (the tabard) and doing a little pastel weathering. As mentioned, I'm wrapping up school (finally) so I won't be able to return to the Exorcists for a while but I wanted some input on what I've accomplished so far. In my mind the red went a little brighter than I would have liked (based on the FW Badab War pics) so if anyone can help suggest a way of darkening it a shade without a wash, I'd appreciate it. This model followed: black primer > mechrite red base > thraka green wash > 2:1 mechrite red / VMC flat red > VMC flat red > 2:1 VMC flat red / VMC red (highlight). All the way up to the 2:1 mech/flat was done with an airbrush but due to several "goofs" during the detailing I had to repaint the base using a brush...so I lost a lot of the nice airbrush gradient.

Sorry this isn't a true WIP, but I don't plan to base him so Showcase seems inappropriate. I will add to this thread with Tau and Exorcists WIPs...and maybe GK starting in May/June.

I like it; I think you hit all the small details as well, good job.

Thanks for the reply centurion. I have a lot of practicing to do in order to fine line like some people but I'm happy with the overall outcome.

Looking good

We make a good team; the Exorcists shoulder pads and icon project turned out rather nicely, if I do say so myself

I'd personally be very happy and proud to field an army of this quality.

It's a shame you are not going to base him for awhile since the subtle weathering on the model would provide additional depth to the model once it is.

I'll be looking forward to watching the progress on your armies when you get started in a couple months.

Both the sculpt and the paint job are very well executed. This looks to be a very promising start to an army.

I personally quite like the shade of red for the mini as it stands, and thinks its pretty close to the shades displayed on Lexi. If you did want to dull it down a shade though I think a 'wash' of a darker red would do the trick.

No trees were hurt in the making of this sig, however many electrons were disturbed.

Paintjob is fantastic and the chapter symbol is looking good as well.

Nice....very good job on them! I used to do an Exorcist army. They are a fun scheme!

Thanks guys! I think I may try to darken it a bit and base it in the next few days...I'll post follow-up pics then.

I might also post some WIP pics of my Tau to bring everyone up to date on what I've done on them in the past. The plan is to finish painting that 1500 pt army then move to the Exorcists for the rest of the summer...then back to Tau again when they get a new codex.
