Having learned from my mistakes from casting the figures, I had more success with these shoulder pads.

There were a couple air bubbles but nothing fatal; I was rather happy with the resulting casts overall.

Not bad for a first try! Do you have a vacuum pot to put it in while the resin cures?

That looks to be a fast curing resin, if so a vacuum pot would probably cause problems. When you vacuum resin it boils and expands if the resin has a fast cure time it ends curing while degassing and that leaves you with pieces that full of voids (like swiss cheese).

I would recommend a Vacuum chamber on the next silicon mold you make to remove those small air bubbles, and If you can try casting the resin under pressure.

Kepora,

Nope, I don't have a vacuum chamber; I was hoping I could get a decent result without one

the unicorn,

I'm using a fast curing resin, the Smooth-Cast 300 that comes with the starter kit from Smooth-on.

Thanks for the warning about the fast curing resin under vacuum.

You mentioned on your blog that you use the Smooth-Cast 305 right? Do you use that with a vacuum chamber?

This was mainly an exercise for me to get a better grasp of what I need to consider for molding and casting purposes when designing my miniatures.

But there's something really awesome about being able to replicate your work so I might be playing around with it a bit more.

If I do decide to pursue it more seriously I'll get a vacuum pump and chamber set up as you guys recommended.

Here are pics of the Exorcists shoulder pads and icons cast in resin by Coyotius; he's casting them for me in exchange for his own personal use

I'm so glad he's taking care of the mold making and casting for this project. The quality of his cast is so much better than what I'm capable of.

The casts look so much better in grey than as greens.

I can't wait to get my hands on them so I can start working on my Exorcists army at last!

Thanks Coyotius!!

Didn't know these were posted!

Almost done casting the sets. If we decided to do more I think I'll make multiple molds next time...slow going with just one set.

It'd be easier for people to find, and expose his stuff to whole new crowds?

Coyotius tells me that my portion of the Exorcists castings are on their way!

Got to get my other projects finished up so I can make time to start working on my Exorcists

The only stuff I'm working on currently for Chapterhouse is the merry band of manshees. They've taken more time than I originally anticipated though; mostly due to the fact we adopted/rescued a dog from the pound and he's been eating up most of my time

Here's the latest pic of one of the Howling Hounds holding aloft his newly acquired sword. He's also sporting his new manly belt

I replicated the swords by using a press mold that I created from Quick-Sil, a 2 part RTV jewelry molding rubber. It's easy to use and gets great results.

I made 8 castings for each side of the four swords, filed down the back and then stuck them together using brown stuff.

Now all they need is the pistol for the other hand. I plan on making a two-sided press mold and casting it in brown stuff again once the sculpting is done.

The sword for the Pack leader's single edged blade is asymmetrical, so I'm going to have to do it the old fashion way and sculpt the other side by hand.

Thanks for the kind words.

M0rdain,

Thank you for the well phrased compliment.; you seriously made my day

seapheonix,

I'm trying hard to get these guys done. I'm hoping to finish sculpting them by the end of this month so I can ship them off to Chapterhouse. I sincerely apologize for the delay; I should of finished sculpting them months ago

Knowing that there are folks out there who are looking forward to these figures makes the time and effort I invest all worthwhile. Thanks!

Here are the pistols for the manshees.

I made a press mold again for these. My attempt at making a 2 part press mold for them didn't pan out so I need to sculpt the other side by hand. It's still much easier than having to sculpt each one from scratch.

I know there were scale issues with the Scorpion Priestess. So this time I tried harder to keep the size of these figures more compatible with the current range of 28mm figures.

Here are some pics to show size comparison for them that will hopefully alleviate those concerns.
