From what I know the parts of the language that are anglo-saxon (old german) are the short fricative words and the long complicated words are Latinate (french/Italian). The norse throw a spanner in that simple dichotomy and of course There are many words from india that came in during the empire.
Its fun to speak a really complicated language.

It is that. When kids/colleagues ask me this question I get very over-excited and start talking about indo-european languages... But, yeah, the lady has the nub of it (less so the fricative bit). Compound words tend to be latinate and higher-status. Go on the Norman invasion.

Amazingly I have painted something. About time too.
This character is a very old 80s techpriest. For some reason everything metallic steel has come out grey in the photos - oh well - maybe I need a direct light source as well as the diffused ones to bring out the glint of the steel. It was a fairly relaxed paintjob as I try and ease myself back in, but I think it works well.
Here it is;

Just to prove that I'm still a painter and not a dried out husk I have done a miniature.
he is a space pirate, with new melta gun to replace a damaged one.
also finished my inquisitor - gave him dirty white hair and a few subtle tones.
I will be painting more hopefully, I think the muse is back.
Thanks for looking. Automatically Appended Next Post: Should have drilled those barrels! Damn.

Glad to see you back, Weety!
I like the Pirate's face but he needs a spot of color. Maybe the melta hose or a bit of his bling?
Love the Inquisitor, but I keep following his gaze and pointed finger downwards and then expecting to see a tiny kitten there.
